  • Does anyone know the story of this dance? Maybe someone with more expertise can explain what it means?

  • It art .

  • creepy.......... o.O''

  • Nice singing lady. :) But the dance is wonderful :D

  • People, the music is traditional Japanese folk music. It doesn't take away from the dance, it's there to tell a story along with the dance itself.

  • Everything is beautiful except the music, which is hideous.

  • @Fronika Yes, I don't get what's with the music. In all geisha dances I've seen it spoils the show and makes you grimace.

  • @Fronika Wow, disrespect much?

  • I LOVE it when their standing still and all they do is move their head :D its sooooooooooooo pretty!!!!

  • I'm searching for geisha performance, like dancing and playing instrumental music...., cause it makes my soul fall in peace :)

does anybody know where I can download it?

    芸者の音楽は私に幸せなる! 芸者のmp3は知っているの?だれか。。。

  • their kimono appear to have creasts on them, which usually indicates their kimono to be cerimonial. it must be a special day for them.

  • a que se debe que hacen el mismo movimiento pero en diferente angulo?

  • I wanna become a geishaaaaaa please be my onee sama!!!!

  • They have very beautiful kimonos.

  • this is just beautiful

  • I love Geisha's so much. I wish I was half as graceful as they are! For some reason the part when they flick their fans open is so entertaining for me...

  • The danse is called "kadomatsu" it seems, which happens to be the name of the very first one taught to shikomi in Gion Kobu - but it is very probably a different dance, maybe on the same song.

  • Best part; 2:05

  • @wiseone0001 them fans whpped out like whoooooshhh

  • @wiseone0001 xD

  • I believe these girls are from Tokyo. They dance very poorly . This is because maiko stage in Tokyo lasts only six months. A period that short in a life of a Kyoto geisha can be seen only a few times and during that time she's not peforming and isn't a maiko. Shikomi stage lasts 6 month but only if the girl is really good otherwise it may last 2 years. Minarai stage lasts only a pair of weeks but the girl doesn't perform during these two stages so when she becomes a maiko she dances much better.

  • They probably are from Tokyo indeed, as the info says this is at "Mukoujima ryotei", and Mukoujima is one of the 6 districts of Tokyo.

The length of the apprenticeship is a bit irrelevant, unless you know for how long these geisha have been in the profession. And some at the very least may have practiced buyo for years already, if not the same dances they are doing now as geisha.

There are Japanese dance schools open to the general public, starting, just like ballet, from a very young age.

  • It interesting to see these full fleged geisha dance, most of the other videos are of apprentices. They are so graceful

  • just awsome. i love it thanks for sharing.

  • very nice !

  • One should be so lucky to get to see this for real at least once in their life. How lovely!

  • @TempestChan couldn't agree more

  • Why I can't I get entertainment like this when I order the sushi/sashimi combo? "Madame Butterfly" my ass!!!! (But it's still a good opera!) And these geiko are fantastic!!

  • My Favourite dance out of the three. I particularly like the one with the silver Obi. ^_^

  • Me too. She dances beautifully. She looks and probably is more senior. And they both have such beautiful hikizuri!

  • She porbably is more senior, since she looked very graceful when she danced. And yes, their hikizuri are beautiful! I'd love to try out and be a geisha for just a day. Though, I think it may take a month or more since their training is strenuous x__x

  • I really enjoyed watching this! The dance was beautiful, and their kimono's!...Stunning!!

  • what is the name of this dance??

    and where are they from??

  • Maybe from Tokyo since they use the word Ryotei instead of O-chaya.
