  • What Primer did you use?

  • If you really want a good primer job then use a airbrush because those things are the bomb at priming W40k minis.

  • Oops sorry bout the triple post. I'm a noob on youtube. Great Vid and awesome whitescars!! I fricken love this cover-song as well.... btw Space Marines rock, but Orks rule 40K.

  • @7reptile7Master HERESY!

  • Oops sorry bout the triple post. I'm a noob on youtube. Great Vid and awesome whitescars!! I fricken love this cover-song as well.... btw Space Marines rock, but Orks rule 40K.

  • I liked the video (except for the song) but close ups of example areas, before and after, would've helped a lot.

  • That intro was beast

  • Respond to this video... unbelievable man, just started painting recently wasnt sure what army to go with.white scars it is then! your vid has been so helpfull, thanks.

  • motorhead+warhammer=awsome

  • @EggyJenkins It's Ministry from the album: Cover Up.

  • @EggyJenkins It's Ministry from the album: Cover Up.

  • @7reptile7Master Meant the intro, Ace of Spades.

  • Where can i get the black ink

  • great paint job, cool song too

  • hmm very different from mine, i dont play scars, but my marines are white...well sort of. i work up from black undercoat, and my guys are a very very light grey highlighted white, but i weather my guys with real rust and real graphite for metal etc. so thanks for this new methode, maybe ill try it for stuff thatsd not weathered.

  • are you white scar guy that has them in the cabnet at gw basingstoke if you are ive seen you. and your painting is AMAZING :D

  • what type of a soldier is that srry i am new to all this i am just gettin started with warhammer??

  • freak!

  • nice. but dont the scars traditionally not use devastators because they are so slow?

  • lol great background music what a wonderful world it is lol, how much fun is it having your kid involved in the same game as you i want to get my step-kids into it and when she is old enough i want to get my daughter into 40k

  • how long dose it take you to paint one model.

  • I lke th music its awesome

  • 2:10 lol it looks like he has frost bite

    nice job!

  • Thanks so much! That was really quite helpful as white can be a bugger! Your white scars rock btw,I would love to see some bikers'.Thanks again all the best

  • MOTORHEAD

  • can u use dis on a imperial guard banner

  • lol thaaanks! i play dark angels and i have never known how to paint apothekari ^^

  • you got skillzzz

  • acn you use washes instead of inks?

  • the washes aren't as concentrated, so they don't come out as dark as the old inks

  • Apparantly there is a product that applies the black lining once the model has painted.

Once you have painted the model, you dip it into the tin this product comes in, and the liquid runs into all the cracks and details and dries up, giving you the black lining, it also give the model a weathered effect. But i don't know what the product is called though.=(

Anyway nice painting, much better than my white scars!

  • I think the product is simply called 'Army Painter' never used it though, not sure I trust anything that makes it sound that easy! LOL

  • @Kundutei Army painter dip is awsome you can ether paint it on or dip it. Dipping you have to shake the model to get the extra wash out of the details. And to paintit you simply paint it on like a wash or ink. but you have to use terpitine to clean your brush..

  • @Kundutei it actually is super easy. recomend highly

  • @Kundutei its called Army Painter "Quickshade". It's really easy and really fast it and looks pretty well. On a scale 1-10 1=bare metal 4=basic tabletop quality 6=high standard tabletop 8=competition 10= unattainable, then Quickshade=5. a little better than basic tabletop quality. If anyone whos not interested in painting competition minis, this is for you.

  • Haha you said 'taint'.

  • well done he did say taint...... like he was meant to. have some common sense

  • Any tips for a "first time" mini's painter?

  • on second thought its awesome! and i love overkill :D

  • pretty boring, but i do necrons sooo....

  • i'm going to paint my all terminator army like that

  • haha it sounds like an chaos is singing :D

  • The song was god awful, but the video was good.

  • Warm water is not good for the brushes.

  • Its absoluely fine, so long as its not hot, luke warm is fine. i have no idea where you heard that from.

  • im sorry i dont like you style of painting ive found way easy way

  • hey what the name of the music??

  • how could you not know :O

  • I know its origiinally from louis armstrong however i wanna know who is the singer who sang this version

  • a quick way to do white (using GW color names) is to prime white, use space wolves grey as a basecoat and then skull white over that... if the final layer of white is diluted slightly (say 80% paint) you can get a cool marbling effect which is appropriate for the blood angels wings (for example)

  • Cool tip, mikebott, thanks!

  • at the beginning it was guage

  • Wow he really likes filming himself at the beginning.

  • Each model must take about 4 hours! But they do look good.

  • Excellent painting! I've made up a Black Templars successor chapter, the White Templars (creative, huh? lol), and the part on painting white and inking black has helped immensely!

  • This vid was totally ausome better than some of the games workshop staff that iv'e seen paint. This is the best for painting whitescars chapter

  • this vid is the best painting tut ive ever seen im gonna subcribe XD

  • I toght your tutorial is one of the best that i've seen for painting the white scars chapter. Not like amatures LOL !

  • Awesome video battle brother!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5 stars, cool intro. For the Emperor!!!!!!

  • badab black, hmmm i'll give it a go thanks.

  • they don't have black ink anymore, what ink/wash would u suggest for the black lining.

  • badba black.

  • The music was FUCKING TERRIBLE, but the paintjob was good.

  • Duh. LOL

  • Nice tutorial!

Too bad gw discontinued inks, I kind of liked them better than the new washes

  • Thanks! I use your tutorial for painting my new dark angels apothecary that has all the power armour white...

  • at 3:24 howd you get it to be chipped? it looks so cool!

  • is that sgt. octavian from the macragge kit?

  • nice paintin dude!

  • Comment removed

  • I managed to do this guy in a single evening. However, I have been known to spend a couple of months on a squad of 5 marines.

  • Hey for the black lining? Did you just use a pen? Or can you use a pen for the lining?

  • i use watered down black and a 'lil bit of micron pen

  • He uses a black ink.. which is pretty much watered down black paint.. but nowadays it usually call washes..

you can get it at any GW shop

  • Intro is a little too long, but good tutorial.

  • Thx for the tip :) I tried and it looks great !

  • No worries, happy it was useful to you! Let me know if you post any pics or vids of them online, I'd love to see how they look when they're done!

  • Hey, I am new to 40k not to tabletop though...(been playing the LotR version) now I bought assault on black reach, and wanted to paint my SMs in an altered white scars style. I wanted to halve them, left side white with red details, right side red with white details. Now I found, that it's hard to get a decent dark red on a white foundation, so I was wonderin if it's practical to split the foundation into black and white?

  • sounds similar to the Storm Lords colour scheme.

The way I'd go about doing this is to use a white primer (preferably spray) over the entire model. For the red parts I'd suggest using 'Mechrite Red' from the GW foundation paint range. Maybe mix a little blood red or scab red in with it. Another trick you could try is to give the red parts a couple of thin coats of red and then wash them with red ink. The old Gw inks work best for this, if you don't have any you can check out art supply shops.

  • hey this is exelent!, but which paint should i use for the eyes? thanks

  • For lenses in the helmet I use blood red, a line of orange on the bottom rim and a spot of white in the outside corner. For bare headed marines the easiest way is to paint the eye black or dark brown, then put in a line of white and finally a spot of black. Hope that's some help!

  • lot of help thanks

  • i'm jealous. i'm painting the new death spectres and i have only just started, any tips? i need them. they look crap.

  • Interesting choice of chapter, the Death Spectres are fairly obscure. Very little is actually known about them. I've seen them done in a couple of different colour shemes. although black with a white shoulder pad seems to be the way most people paint them, I have seen them done in purple too! The best advice I give most people is to keep your paint thinned down, never use it straight out of the pot. It's better to do a few thin coats than one thick, lumpy one.

  • thanx im the kind of guy to be told what to paint and stuff, im also getting a codex 2nite so i mite stop painting death spectres.

  • i think you should do one on space wolves

  • I only did this one because I collect White Scars but the technique for painting Space Wolves wouldn't be that different. You would need a darker grey for your basecoat, probably Fenris Grey if you use GW foundation paints. Then just work it up to Space Wolves Grey and then add a little white to highlight the high edges of the armour.

  • cool thanks..yeah i was doing white scars but i just decided two days ago to repaint everything to make it space wolves

  • hey what is better to use black or white spray paint? because i am painting high elves so what would be better? and for the future what is the difference between them. :) cheers

  • Generally, if your main base colour is going to be light then use white , if it is going to be a dark colour use black.

Any colour painted over a white undercoat will come out lighter due to the slight opacity of paint. A black undercoat has the opposite effect, making the colour that's painted over it duller. It all really depends what kind of effect you're going for. Personally i would use a white primer for the High Elves to give their colours more vibrancy.

  • can you use non gameworkshop spray cans or aribrush paint?

  • Use whatever you feel comfortable with. I use cheaper spray paint than the GW stuff.

  • well

i dont have the white primer spray i have only chaos black (and dont think that ill get it too)

can i just undercoat it with chaos black and then base coat it with white ?

and do i need some special army or can i use space marines from AOBR ?

realy realy thx for the answer :)

  • It's a real pain to paint white over black! If you really can't be persuaded to get a white undercoat, then use a 50:50 mix of Space Wolves Grey and skull white as a basecoat and paint large highlights of white over that. Keep your paint thin and apply a few coats to get a good finish.

The marines from AOBR are a perfect start to any army. Hope it goes well!

  • i try to do the black lining stuff but it ends up being all sloppy and dosnt get into the cracks. any tips?

  • use a fine detail brush, or go to an art shop and get a really small one. Best thing to do is paint the black lining first, before you start painting the base colours, straight onto the undercoat. That way if you do make a mess it's easy to cover it over with the subsequent layers of paint you will be adding.

  • Thanks! you actually respond to poeple if they have a question or comment.

  • 1. weird intro

2..... YOU FUCKIN ROCK AT PAINTING

  • what if i have black primer? Would i still do the black outline?

  • Best advice I can give is don't use black primer- Get a white one. You'll end up making a lot of work for yourself trying to paint white over a black undercoat.

  • they dont sell inks anymore do they?

  • No, GW changed them for the washes but you can still get ink from art supply shops. There are probably a few places online that still have Citadel Colour inks in stock too.

  • brill video!

  • Best Intro ever! Hehe :D

  • amazing tutorial but it easier to use black ink instead of chaos black when doing the script on the purity seals. it flows easier so you get a finer coverege but thinned down chaos black will do fine too. once again amazing tutorial

  • Personally I find ink a bit too messy for that job. I always water the paint down a bit to give me more control over it.

  • That was awesome man, really good tut.

Might start collecting these guys :D Do you game much?

  • Not as much as I would like to!

  • what the hell is dis song!

  • "What a Wonderful World" is a song by Bob Thiele (using the pseudonym George Douglas) and George David Weiss. It was first recorded by Louis Armstrong and released as a single in 1968, and was inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. This version is performed by Ministry and appears on their 2008 cover album 'Cover Up'.

  • How do you go about applying the Black ink in step two? Do you just wash the entire model and let the Ink work it's way into the recesses?

  • no, just apply it to the recesses with a fine brush.

  • Hey Kundutei sent ya a pn but this video is allready the answer!!!

I ve been looking for an competent tutorial for at least one year!!!

    Maybee I'll send in picutres of my StarWarsClone-40kMarines ;) 10 of 5 !!!

  • do it. would love to see how they turn out!

  • ty!

  • Bloody brilliant mate. 5 stars

  • If you also are a Sister Player and are doing order of the sacred rose. This video helps also. I did this method out on my Sister veteran with stormbolter and shes looking a lot better than my other models, from now on I am sticking to this method of painting my Sisters.

  • Hey man, this is fantastic! Thank you so much. I am just getting ready to pick up that starter set and I had planned to try my hand at the white. You posted this just in time. Thanks again 5/5

  • how long time did it take you to paint it?

  • Not long, maybe a few hours. I managed to get the model finished while taking all the photos for the tutorial in 1 evening. But I stopped for a few breaks to allow paint drying too.
