If you are going to argue you should take a percentage share of the debt by population then the rest of the UK has a good arguement they should take a percentage share of the oil wealth. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland used the Pound Sterling, the Republic of Ireland uses the Euro. It is generally assumed that if a country were to leave the United Kingdom and become independent then it would be forced to adopt the Euro, as England would not allow it to continue using Pound Sterling due to the risk of Scotland's economy failing.
And your wrong, Alec Salmon has said that should Scotland leave the UK then it will retain the Pound Sterling, at the good-grace of the Bank of England. Scotland couldn't just adopt the Euro as if it leaves the UK, it leaves the EU. It will have to re-apply for membership.
As for 'England' being alone in not wanting to join the Euro, that is far from true, Denmark, Poland and Sweden don't want to join. Though only Denmark has an opt-out like the UK.

But really, the UK's presence in the EU is sketchy at best: while they are officially in it, they do not use the Euro and they do not take part in the economic decisions taken by Germany and France. With the French telling us we should either the new economic policy or get out completely. Nothing predestinated any part of the world to be under the supreme control of any political entity in particular. It's all an artificial construction (through politics, history, conquests and so on)
You british have the right to say STOP. You don't have the euro, and you don't want deeper political integration. Fair enough that's your choice and I can only but respect it.

The EU flag and anthem were never officially acknowledged! The basis for the EU in 1951 was cooperation between France and Germany to control German production of Coal and Steel to critical element to rebuilding a strong military.
The idea was to make sure Germany could never again be a military threat ,it saw the rise of anti patriotism and multiculturalism with the (many) consequences we know today.

The military being sent is a fair argument, however take a look at New Zealand, we're small, part of the commonwealth, but no one really gives a toss about us. If you are going to argue you should take a percentage share of the debt by population then the rest of the UK has a good arguement they should take a percentage share of the oil wealth. And also don't think Scottish msp's are completely absolved of the damgae. It was after all Mr Salmond who coesey up to Fred Goodwin in 2007 and promised less regulation.

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland used the Pound Sterling, the Republic of Ireland uses the Euro. It is generally assumed that if a country were to leave the United Kingdom and become independent then it would be forced to adopt the Euro, as England would not allow it to continue using Pound Sterling due to the risk of Scotland's economy failing.

And your wrong, Alec Salmon has said that should Scotland leave the UK then it will retain the Pound Sterling, at the good-grace of the Bank of England. Scotland couldn't just adopt the Euro as if it leaves the UK, it leaves the EU. It will have to re-apply for membership.
As for 'England' being alone in not wanting to join the Euro, that is far from true, Denmark, Poland and Sweden don't want to join. Though only Denmark has an opt-out like the UK.

But really, the UK's presence in the EU is sketchy at best: while they are officially in it, they do not use the Euro and they do not take part in the economic decisions taken by Germany and France. If I recall the Germans recently told the UK that we would have to decide to adopt all EU policy soon or get out completely.

With the French telling us we should either the new economic policy or get out completely. And the Germans, and half of Europe, came out on the UKs side, saying the policy needs to be re-looked at, and calling us a "indispensable partner".
We've managed to drive a wedge between Germany and France, and if we play it right we could move to usurp France's position in the EU.

And that vote you seek in 2014, will be happening in 2012 or 2013, or whenever Westminster decides, and if the polls are anything to go by at the moment, Scotland will remain in the Union.
Moreover, if Scotland leaves the Union, then it will have to re-apply for membership to the EU, a process that could take up-to 10 years (if they're lucky).

They have no right, no mandate to start dictating to the Scottish people on when we will decide our future. The majority of Scots in the last election voted SNP. And I'm afraid they do have a right, David Cameron is Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, which includes Scotland. Alec Salmon needs Westminster's permission before he can hold a referendum, otherwise it'l just be a nationwide poll.
At the end of the day, Salmond can suggest the question, the time, and the choices; but unless Westminster agrees it's not going to happen. Salmond and the SNP don't have the legal right.
