also if light had gone for one of the expos like most terran do at that stage rumble would have had like 8-10 ultras look at the 1200 gas he had stored up on the little counter in the corner ;)
rumble is not a great player but he did well with what he had after losing so much the strategy was there the luck he needed wasnt
I think Light's early attack did more damage than you gave it credit for. In particular, I think the timing of the attack was such that Rumble was forced to morph a lot of larvae to get lings out and replace drones right before his spire popped, and he realized that between the lost larvae and the economic damage he'd taken he couldn't get out enough mutas to do any real damage so he had to change strats. And Light only lost about one control group, so he was in OK shape.
rumble had like 1200 gas in the bank too if that push had been another minute off he would have had like 8-10 ultras popping i think that is why he threw up the 2 hatches to hope that light would go for one of them to buy a little time
also as you said that firebat got like 6 drones AT LEAST and forced rumble to waste his larva to push it back he couldnt play standard after that
