ive done this very same thing,but i just cut the gas door out and welded a new piece in place.alot more simple and faster,all you have to do is put the new metal behind it make sure it forms to the contuor of the body and mark around the cut edge and cut the shape and weld it in.done,much faster than making that particular shape of the door and cutting or grinding.ten minute worth of work vs. an hr or more
@Mr1963chevy i do street rod biulds and muscle car restorations,im in the charlotte n.c. area.if you need some work done,hope you dont mind i just always beating the bush for the next job or even if i can give some advice.my shop is milner's speed and custom shop.
GOOD LUCK!! It's not easy. I would do slow tack welds, and low heat, also take your time don't rush it. A lincoln mig welder with gas is the best type of welder to use.

we're just using 16 gauge sheet metal & kiddie hair fiberglass to prevent metal fom flexing.

mount the fill tube inside the bed. Or on this one we installed a fill tube in the fender liner.
