  • While this is cool, it is NOT D&D... it's a high tech board game. But then again, that's what WOTC has done with 4th edition. RALPH!

  • @OakenCloak Exactly , Its like they took their D&D minis game (which wasnt doing to good) and combined it with D&D to make more money . Because now you have to have tons of figures just to play the game .Its become nothing more then a money maker for hasbro .

  • God that's horrible, probably the worse idea I have ever seen. I hate the way computers are used in role playing by some people generally, but this idea is particularly bad in that it completely removes three of the most interesting things about playing D&D - having your character on paper in front of you, altering him using a pencil and eraser, and rolling dice! Truly terrible!

  • @nstutt If those are the most interesting parts about a game of D&D you play with some impossibly shitty people.

  • I want one for Map purposes. But i still <3 pencils and paper. 1st edition FTW!

  • @gygaxguys Yeah, I would love this for the maps. Otherwise, I like having paper character sheets and physical dice .

  • The best roleplaying takes place in your minds eye

  • The best roleplaying takes place in your minds eye

  • that... is amazing, i want one!

  • Whoo . . . I got Goose Bumps.

    So, cool.

  • This is nice, but the game is about imagination, so screw this.

  • a simple paper and pencil game is now a 10,000$ plus complication thanks microsoft

  • If you guys like D&D then you will definitely looove this webseries called Walking In Cirlces! Its an epic adventure about dragons n stuff! Check it out if you get some time! youtube/wictheseries

  • get off the fake dice and I would buy one :)

  • 0:04 the guy all the way to the left looks like such a boss

  • Correct me if I'm wrong... But some of the charm D&D presents is in the oldschool table-game system...

  • tech for techs sake... not essential.

  • It looks cool but if i wanted something like this i'd play baldur's gate or nwn lol.

  • Literally no one who plays D&D will be able to afford this. Except maybe Bill Gates.

  • @DragonHunterX well he developed this table and he has one in his house

  • I like the idea. Needs a bit of tweaking to get it right, but looks good.

i still prefer the conventional way of doing it, makes it feel less like a computer game

  • I think this will eventually be something that will be integrated quite well into gaming. But most people won't be able to afford it. This would be special events, like at GEN Con or PAX, or if they ever bring back Worlds Largest Dungeon!

  • SCIENCE!

  • where do u get?

  • meh-.... not convinced....

  • 6 dudes 0 chicks and 1 basement...Some things never change

  • @Beastaphile Well said ;) I'm glad not to be that kind of guy

  • @Beastaphile For you and two more who thumbUp you comment watch this /KjBn7M5sDdw

Some people rock with chicks and D&D all together. Sorry :-P Stop complain :-P

  • @Beastaphile My current campaign has 4 guys and 2 girls.

  • @thelostcontacts lucky we only have one chick

  • @Beastaphile There was 1 chick

  • All I hear is confusion.... graphics are horrible.

  • All I hear is confusion.... graphics are horrible.

  • its cool but y ?... is this an rpg or a new attempt to capture mmo fans market base seems like it'd just distract from role play which I thought was the real reason we play D&D.I guess call me old school

  • Gotta send this to my DM!

  • Good luck getting this..12,000 dollars my ass...

  • This is sick but I think actually seeing stuff in real environment would be more fun.

  • Nerdgasm: COMMENCE!!

  • Blasphemy has never been this cool.

  • That.. is cool

  • Were do you get that

  • I want 1

  • W. T. F

  • Now this is fucking BONKERS!

  • Need this for Ipad Iphone or Android? check out RPGplane blog

  • Design this program for the iPAD. Nobody wants to buy that overpriced crap anymore except casinos and maybe a hotel. Who is going to play D&D in the lobby for 2 days straight?

    Do over!

  • @GuruChaz See but then you have to buy an Ipad and nobody smart wants an Ipad.

  • @xSynrez It's not an apple product... you CAN buy a windows smart phone IF you wanna maximize you're experience...

  • awesome

  • what a waste of money i mean some one had to design that and format it and slave away when their lazy ass can draw it on a piece of paper and run it the same damn way

  • @hi14993 Its hard to "slave away" on something you want to design.

  • @Sagata999 dude the guy who did design it was probably told to BY microsoft havent u worked at a shitty job before?

  • this is probably the coolest thing i've ever seen...

  • Screw this dude! First D&D being made to suit more video game players by creating 4.0 (a version for "simple" people) and now they are making it for Surface. Where are the chracter sheets? Where are the writing utensils?

  • wair can i get this!!!!

  • 27K later, we can all TT with a surface(r)

FFS, I wish i could get sponsored to make retardo vids like this.

    Sheesh.

  • If the Itune store's Dicenomicon is looked down upon then I don't want to hear the reactions to this XD

  • That looked awesome! They should do this for the i pad!

  • That looked awesome!

  • lol i dont even know how the game works, and that look fun

  • WOW, this makes me want Microsoft Surface! Finally NO MORE CHEATING ON DICE ROLLS!

  • Nobody rolls my dice but me! Death to the table! Roll for damage!

It's great til somebody spills their Mountain Dew!

  • This thing is sweet!

  • Profitable? Sure it is profitable. Expand it for use with other games like Warhammer and then open up hobby clubs where people can come play on these things and you're golden.

Besides, Microsoft Surface is more of a business tool than a personal computer.

  • If I only had $10.000 to blow on an overblown Pac-Man table from Micro Shit

  • how much is the game in this version?

  • Doesn't the table get confused when I put my pencils and papers on it?

You know pencils? And papers? For playing a pencils and papers game?

  • @Snaus no it uses an electronic reader to identify objects on top of it. every piece that their using probably is specially marked with an IF transmiter so it knows what they are.

  • @Snaus

Who cares. The object is to have fun.

  • @Snaus As funny as your comment is, I love progress.

  • @shagoosty I was kidding a bit, and there could be helpfull features from a gaming table as this. But I feel it should stick closer to the original (oldfashioned) game. I liked the initiative tracker f.i., but I don't much like the whole miniatures and digital monsters aspect. What they should add instead:

    - Real dices thrown (and recognized)

    - Playing of music and scenery clips

    - Placing a corrected character sheet would download it to DM

    - Having it recognize when my beer is almost empty!

  • @Snaus Well we know the dice is already possible, they did it with Settlers of Catan

  • @Snaus Zing

  • 5,000-10,000 dollars??? Are you shitting me? What are they thinking?!? do they really think people who buy this table are the kind of people that play D&D? Proof of concept yes, profitable idea.. sadly not...

  • who do i give my money too?!?

  • whats that thing you guys are playing on

  • i think this is the first real use I've seen for the Microsoft surface.

  • This is...awesome!

  • even if this isn't good. it'll be great for maps.

  • I created a FREE D&D SURFACESCAPES (check my vids)

  • Dnd is supposed to be played with nothing but some maps papers pencils and your imagination. This shit even takes away the fun of rolling dice!

  • how much does this cost!!!!!! i wants it!!!!!

  • @bornoftherods 10000 dollars , yeah they obviously needed to use less pricy hardware infact im willing to bet they could've made a version thats equal to this except cost 300 dollars if they used more complex tricks in integration

  • Hironious, what have you blessed us with!?!?!?!?!

  • i want one ! where do i get one when its available!

  • @TheThriftyThrifty No where..if u find a surface for sale let me know hahah

  • Mother of god :*O

  • hell i jsut have an old program from the 90's for advance D&D, lol and no map table. pretty tight though

  • this should go out pre-loaded on the table......... its very epic

  • So... I shouldn't roll my steel dice on this...

  • OH MY GAWDUH!

  • The technology is amazing, but apart from it: who needs that?

  • I want one so bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But $12,500 is just out of my price range...

    *cough*

I mean... It would really enhance my D&D experience.

    *cough*

    Yeah, I looked for one.

  • you could see these type of game tables working in public places say in bars

  • I want one!

  • epics

  • what program are they using, or is this built into the surface?

  • I kept waiting for that one dude to spill his coffee all over that surface.. I really wanted to see some nerd rage but I guess not. Sure glad this thing didn't exist 20 years ago when I played or I probably would have never left the house.

  • 12000 usd

  • lets play!!

  • all i can say is holy shit....

  • what has those warlocks been doing!

  • WITCH CRAFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @R3ap3r18 are you serious?

  • Fail. Why is it only in 2D? Why do you have to use 3D miniatures that are real, on a virtual surface? This seems utterly retarded. If anything should be real it should be the dice... I mean, give me a break. Either make the whole thing 3D or don't bother.

  • @darkgoob

The Dungeon Master is controlling all of his stuff on the board... that's what he's using his laptop for.

The 3D miniatures are for the people playing his game and they control that element.

For THOSE guys to be played on that computer, it would require the dungeon master to ask the players what they are doing and then input it on the screen.

That simply is awkward and stupid... so it makes MUCH more sense for the players to use their miniatures themselves.

    You're an epic fail.

  • kinda takes the imagination out of the game...if you are going to use an interface like this you might as well just play real video games. this is not innovation, this is a huge step back...its all about your imagination when you play a game like d&d!!!

  • D&D 6.5 ed!

  • awesome!

  • Shiit!!. I wish I had that when I played AD&D back in the day =p

  • how much are they? 1000? thats not bad considering the possobilities, and i would think they would need software downloads and what not! plz link a site with specs and prices!

  • This thing is absolutely amazing. This is like, the stuff people dreamed about having as kids!

  • It's extremely cool, wish I'd be able to play my Eberron Campaign on that!

  • I WANT THAT!!!! Where'd you get that?

  • freakin aweome!!! I need one!!!

  • omfg. how do i get this for my group?????!?

  • I hate you = ' (

  • Whats the name of the software used? :)

  • oh my ever loving gods - that is insanely cool. All those nights getting headaches from the fumes of dry erase markers on battle mats in a poorly ventilate room...I am geeking out on a whole new level now. LOL

  • You were surely lacking with your geeky image just playing Dungeons and Dragons with a dice and board but now you've got a Microsoft Surface to play it on the image is 100% complete. The ONLY reason you buy a MS Surface is to look at porn while you drink your morning coffee.

  • lol never lose the dice again XD

  • @legotaster or your virginity.

  • ok thats pretty fucking cool and i'm a redneck .

  • Microsoft has had this technology for a few years now but they've been unable to market it because it's still to expensive for the typical consumer. While table top games (D&D, Mech, etc.) are obvious applications for this technology, I would like to see more demos of practical uses, such as reading the morning paper on the breakfast table, or consulting blue prints on a construction site, or any of the multitude of other applications that would benefit from a massive touch-screen system.

  • @HeBreaksLate I've always liked the idea of making this a part of a restaurant table. If the price could be brought down to a few thousand per unit I think you'd start to see this in the fancier places. Then again, even in that setting it would still be a bit of a gimmick. It would be fun to read the menu right on the table, place an order and ask for refills with just a tap of the finger.

  • @JuryDutySummons Depending on how sensitive the pressure sensing is, the table might be able to detect when a refill is needed by the weight of the glass. And of course the computer would be able to store any multitude of suggested appetizer/entree/drink combos better than any human waiter could. The computer would also be able to store orders from previous visits and thus learn your tastes and make suggestions (much like Pandora does with music).

  • @HeBreaksLate I could be wrong, but I don't think there is any pressure sensitivity on the display at all. I could just be remembering a different project, but I think it uses IR and camera pickups to tell when something is contacting the glass.

In any event, touchscreens like the type on the iphone don't detect pressure, they detect impedance. (again, I could be mixing up my tech:))

  • Oh shit I have GOT to get this.. I would put this on credit, that is some kick ass technology!

  • haha. Apple Ipad. This blows the Ipad out of the water. This is going to drastically drop in price in the next few years, so we just have to be patient.

Boardgaming will never be the same and I can't wait. :)

  • Who is actually buying these? They are $12,500 in the USA. What a waste of money. Buy an Apple iPad and put the same program on it.

  • @GuruChaz All Apple products are crap.

  • @GuruChaz This thing is the size of about 6 iPads. But you're right, it is massively over priced, which is why they haven't been selling, even though they've been around for a few years. The problem is that touch screens are expensive to build (thus why Apple only just moved up in size from the iTouch to the iPad). I'll be interested to see how people react when Apple comes out with their own version (call it iTable?).

  • the future of D&D or any game with that Table will kickass! :D

  • this is gonna be kickass for any table top game! i love it

  • it may sounds like nitpicking, but why such a boring landscape?

  • @Exodus1080

I assume because it is a demo

  • how much?

  • my chessex mat cost $15, what's this thing run?

  • more than you can afford pal, Ferrari!

  • @leewardstyle chyea. but its as pain in the ass to have to stop. and be like. "wait up i have to draw this area" take like 30 min. then they want to back track.. fuuuck i just drew this part!

  • cool.. but screw d&d, put battletech on this bitch and I'll buy it.

  • @BlaxicanX

Stfu. Chances are, idiots who take the time who point out how successful other people are with their sex life won't get far in regular life.

  • "Chances are?"

I'd like to see where you got that statistic from, lol.

Or is that something you've learned from personal experience? xD

  • Holy shit!!!! this is fucking awesome!!!

  • The criticism from people who say its better to use your imagination are missing the point. If kids wanted to use their imagination they would play D&D outside with sticks.

This technology is awesome- don't be afraid of a future with electronic boardgames.

  • muahhahhah future version of monopoly or mouse trap, with mods. :D

  • @nlp3000

I think his point was that you used your own imagination. If you want to D&D in a world that someone else thought up for you... go play WoW.

  • lol @ these comments about microsoft

  • When does this get released for GURPS?

    BTW...4th ed D&D SUXORS!

  • I'm in love.

  • this is for people who have no imagination whatsoever....

  • @ronpack actually I have been using mats since 79, so that is all it is a mat, electronic etc, I have had blown up over what was described and what they play thought he saw, that is why we use figures and dice

  • maybe you misunderstood what I meant. I have played D&D before and the best part about it was using your imagination and not needing "graphics".

  • @ronpack you're right - there's no imagination going into creating this product and designing maps for it. That stuff really just springs into existence and we just use it.

  • This is revolutionary.

  • Once upon a time there was a fast-moving RPG where you used your imagination to adventure rather than slogging your way through endless battles or whatever can be "programmed" into an inevitably-limited computer simulation. I wonder what that was called...

Nice tech for what it is, though: kudos for that. : )

  • This thing is incredible!

I like all of it... except, I think I'd still rather roll a real d20.

  • What.

    The.

    Fuck?!

Seriously, that's one of the coolest things I've seen.

  • Crazy hardcore. It would actually make me want to play d&d. haha. For real, it looks pretty cool.

  • hmm would be interesting if this thing has every board game thats out.

  • WOW a touchscreen laying on a table top.... SO THE FUCK WHAT!!!!!!!! How are BSODs going to look on that?!?! ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!

  • There is no browsing the web and going and downloading a million viruses because you're too stupid to know not to, and the thing, at least from the videos i've seen, is practically impossible to overload, so why would it BSOD?

  • Clueless...

Security through obscurity is ineffective. There's more 0day sploits on any *nix OS, than there are on a Windows OS.

I use both on a regular basis, but I have the common sense to harden any OS before I do anything else.

You likely had a bad experience. Your bad experience was likely induce
