  • One of the best song ever i love it. His voice need i say more!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is what MTV USED to be all about!

  • Comment removed

  • Even though this song has some age on it, it's still epic and puts to shame anything on mainstream radio today.

  • anybody else think the lead guitarist looks like ronnie james dio?

  • fuck justin bieber , thumbs up if you like this song and Guns n Roses!

  • the best

  • One of the finest moments of MTV's 31-year history. Before it began it's long, agonizingly slow degeneration into whatever friggin' crap it is now.

  • ♥ LOVE this song.

  • Beautiful, can't stop watching....

  • Good stuff for MTV

  • I'm glad music has no color barriers

  • I miss the early 90's,you don't hear this kind of talent today.

  • If this one is called acoustic, then I am Jesus Christ...

  • My favorite live version, done with a comlpete string section AWESOME!!!!!!

  • ;*

  • wereld-nummer

  • Muito bom, grande banda, excelente música!

  • Simply Talent on loan from God! This my friends is what MUSIC really is! To the younger people watching this, look carefully, you will see something new, to you,.....people playing real instruments...well! I doubt a computer was even in the building that night and music has only gone down hill since. Will the late 80's please come back!

  • Most underrated singer ever. One of the best of his time. Phenomenal. No more no less.

  • Possibly the greatest power ballad ever delivered in a live performance. Ever.

  • ABSOLUTELY FUCKING AWESOME !!!!

  • Thanks to P. that show me this music and so many others changind and open other ways for sound. Love u

  • it is stolen from Pink Floyd, but it sounds great.

  • few minutes later, metallica performed the best version of "enter sandman live" ever, still remember like it was yesterday and it's been fucking 20 yrs.... unreal im fukin old....

btw, one of the best thanks for the upload...

  • Macht die Augen zu und los gehts

  • They have few peers and no masters. 20yrs later no one still comes close. Geoff is bald and buff but sounds the same. His girls are grown but still beautiful and this performance remains a masterpiece that insults all the wannabes that came after.

  • This is one of the best live performance I have ever seen. Love it.

  • I watched this show way back when :-)

  • @Saraleander Me too :)

  • @Shivers6911

    Wasn't it awesome?! :-)

  • FANTASTICO!!!

  • I MISS YOU BRIAN!

  • Thumbs up if this was the last real vmas

  • Com certeza uma das mais belas musicas que já ouvi!!! Thank's Queenrych

  • masterpiece.

  • I first head this song back in 1991 after which I ran to buy the album Empire. 20 years later, it remains a classic. Thanks Queensryche.

  • I heard this song in supernatural :D

  • one of the best songs ever!

  • Wow....

  • After 20 years, this is STILL my favourite song of all time.

I have listened to it hundreds of times and I'm still wiping away tears.

The ability to move the human heart is a wonderful gift.

  • @rooney671 my favorite song aswell, cant get enough of this

  • I could watch this every day

  • ALWAYS IN MY HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that year -1991. we have van halen too in the awrad show.

    amazing night.

  • Most underrated ballad of all time!

  • If I had a time machine this would the first thing I would go back to see. Then I'd probably visit jesus.

  • Kids of today watch these 80's early 90's bands you will learn alot.

  • Im smiling next to you........

  • It ain't every day when a song by a heavy metal band makes your heart soar and your eyes water..

  • o dedilhado dessa musica é coisa de outro mundo...Um obra prima do Queensryche....

  • They freakin nailed this!!!

  • I first saw this video 20 years ago and I love it to this day - it's a true classic.

  • @rocklover3ad , where did that time go ? so fast, it seems. I loved them since their debut

  • Comment removed

  • So underrated. Both band and singer. Geoff is one of the best singers ever.

  • I love this version, awesome job on this vid

  • great song !!!

  • From 4:23 to 4: 33--"Living twice-at once-you learn you're safe from pain in

the dream domain; a soul set free to fly..."

    Beautiful.

  • I miss the days before autotune existed... this performance was great! What happened to MTV in the last 20 years? You are not going to see this kind of quality on the VMA's anymore.

  • The VMA's nowadays is just a piss poor excuse for that piss poor network to pretend to care about music. MTV needs to just rot, die, and stop young people from turning even more brain dead.

  • Did ANY of you guys watch the 2011 MTV Music Video Awards show Sunday night? Hey, it's cool.....I didn't either.

  • @B304A124 Nope. It would only make me angry.. lol.

  • If this song were any more beautiful I would lose my mind.

  • This was before the VMA's were takin over by pot head rappers who suck donkey chode

  • @CKSeeps7

    16 rappers saw your comment.

  • @pils64 ha i dont really give a shit because its true!

  • @CKSeeps7 16 people love that donkey chode too

  • It is one of those songs that you can play over and over and over and over. You never get tired of this one especially in ascoutic version.

  • Holy freaking crap! There's just no way this song doesn't move everyone even the tinest bit. It was beautiful!

And to be honest, I knew the band but not that well. So i'd never heard this song until I heard it on an episode of supernatural. So glad I did. Great song!

  • unglaublich...eine hymne für die ewigkeit !...memories !!!!!

  • Best ballad ever ......

  • que belleza de cancion....hermosa

  • To Scooby. One of my best furry little friends who it still feels like yesterday you left.

    R.I.P 2000 - 2011 Scooby Doo Chavez

  • Anyone else notice the guitarist is wearing Seinfeld's puffy pirate shirt?

  • Silent Lucidity is such a great song, but did anyone else see Geoff Tate in the documentary “Programming the Nation.” He was so insightful in it. I just love how this guy seems to be active in society rather than sitting on his money. bit. ly/pVmk9U

  • One of the few songs that sends a tingle down my spine and gives me goose bumps. Fantastic rendition.

  • Is it just me or is this live version better than the studio one? Everything is just perfect, from vocals to the band and the orchestra. Wish I had this show on DVD or better formats :)

  • @chiphuvoz No, it isn't just you. What you and all of us are viewing is quite a rare feat on live television: A virtually

flawless performance by an woefully underappreciated heavy metal group of a musical score which can only be described as a masterpiece. This television event was INDEED among MTV's finest moments in it's 30-year history. Before this once-fine network devolved over time to become what it is today: a channel I never bother to watch.

  • One of my son Joshua's (and mine too) favorites songs and especially this live version). We lost Joshua on 6/3/2011. after a lifelong battle with CF and chrioninc rejection from a double lung transplant, he went home to meet Our Father, and to wait for us top meet him in Heaven. We miss you Joshie, and can't wait to be with you eternally. Love, Dad

  • I wonder how many people think this is Pink Floyd when it airs on the radio

  • This song will play at my funeral. So many memories.

  • to my cousin roxanne who was murdered in 97' this song is for you. i miss you.

  • @bigbullsfan1 May she rest in peace.

  • The best period.

  • Just wonderfull!!!

  • Ive seen every rock band live that matters in the music world, ive seen QR a dozen times and there always spectacular

  • I heard this song wen I was ten yr old. Im a artist I paint id love the opinons on my shet from fans like u. This song is like mozart with a guitar an a voice.

  • This music is too cool....

  • 14 people are neither silent nor lucid. They ARE committed.

  • This song is awesome. Notice how many of these clips are live, they are such an awesome live band! Does anyone know if they are playing around the state of Iowa anytime soon?

  • In 1991 I was 20 yr old kid holding my 1 yr old daughter drinking an ice cold Goebel enjoying the MTV awards, this was back when MTV was worth watching., Queensryche rolled up in there and made all the other bands look like bitches!!,, which I have seen them live before so I knew they would!!!,, ROCK ON!!

  • Every once in a while, a single-word description is all that's needed for a YouTube upload. This is one of those times.

  • Totally live... I fucking love this band & have since 1985... Total class.Still recording great albums.I hope they come back to our shores soon.

    Brett- SM Singer

  • Masterpiece. Just masterpiece. I realy do not understand how somebody can dislike something so pure, true and strong like this? Guess 14 robots were programmed to press dislike button.

  • Doesn't get any better than that!

  • This was the 1991 MTV Music Video Awards ceremony, where the band REM took home the most honors, but for the People's Choice Award, Queensryche won for it's video for it's majestic power ballad "Silent Lucidity." Which is the reason Queensryche got to perform this song at the show. It seems from the audience's reaction this was worth waiting for; this wasn't just a band playing a song live on TV, this was an EVENT. And one about which those that were there may have yet to forget 20 years later.

  • Absolutely flawless performance. My favorite ballad of all time.

  • my goodness its a real guitar solo an a real band and real drum kit the way there suppose to look and sound. so tired of all the bands em singers hired guns using bee-bop swing star jazz kits today with the trap sets boring.

  • Beautiful

  • Arguably the greatest power ballad ever recorded. Ever.

  • This could very well be the only legitamate flawless performance from a live band ever at the VMA's. By legit is all instuments were played live by hand and not programmed. Geoff Tate sounds as good here as he does on the recording. You're veiwing a very rare feat which is a near perfect performance.

  • @prettynoose8497 you know....

  • @prettynoose8497 I agree completely, I'm a sound engineer and getting a band to sound so clear and consistant to the album is VERY difficult. This is just a wonderful track and the performance is pristine. A+++ for once well done MTV.

  • @prettynoose8497 - I have to agree with you on that... This is totally UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE!!

  • How in the HELL does this performance have only 691,000 views?? On top of that, 14 DISLIKES?!?! Somebody tell me SOMEthing!!!

  • @B304A124 Because assholes like you try to get top comments and disrupt the video that we all are enjoying. Not STFU, or GTFO.

  • @LeeChavezMusic This is a joke, right? Would have been something if you could track me down and say what you just posted here right to my face.

  • @B304A124 Who cares if 14 people hit the dislike button. There are people who like music that makes me vomit, but who cares. Just focus on a great, perhaps greatest, band making awesome music. QR's music stands the test of time, it's inter-dimensional and multilayered. Some people just don't understand. But really don't worry about the dislikes. Enjoy the Silent Lucidity.

  • @Palimostra Point taken. And I have enjoyed "Silent Lucidity" since I first heard the song when it came out in 1991. And I will NEVER tire of it.

  • music is medicine...i just almost overdosed

  • I hate to sound like an old fuddy-duddy...but they don't make songs like this any more.

  • Not quite so "acoustic" but it sounds awesome

  • I love his voice... why don't other vocalists sing like this anymore!!!??

  • @UnamedKing Some that sounds a lil' like him: Roy Khan (anno 1990-2000, he changed style abit after that)

    Nils Rue, Michael Eriksen :)

  • This is how it should have been on the album!

  • GENIAL!!!!!

  • Going to see Queensryche next month. Is sad that today's music has gone downhill so much. We were lucky in the 70s, 80s and some of the 90s.

  • @jimbojunior1000 It's called real music by people who can sing and play instruments. If this sounds strange to you because maybe you are 12 years old, the thing the guy is holding is called a guitar and the sound coming from Geoff Tate is called singing. People today who can't sing, they rap. Those who don't have music discapline, they use a turntable, which takes no training, no talent, and no music theory whatsoever.

  • @j1001s27sw well thanks for the music lesson bro....

  • @jimbojunior1000 Oh, it sounded at first like you were some rapper crapper troll; sounds like you know about the genre, didn't mean to insult! Yeah, the 'ryche has lost steam in the years (the new album is wretched I've heard; and the last I bought was Promised Land from 1994). More into Dream Theater, Opeth, and Mastodon these days as far as metal. Queensryche was good prog and giving prog the props is was due; but that been at least 15 years; more than a lifetime for some bands.

  • @j1001s27sw hi bro was'nt insulted found your comments amusing,,,got into rock music through my dad.. in my early thirties now and i appreciate all genre of music but i felt the ryche had ( in my personal opinion ) sold out on this track...their frist album was superb..you know the saying one mans dream is anothers nightmare well this applies here...if you like the track it seems your with the majority anyway...i my-self am a big maiden van halen sabbath fan..take it easy good hearing from you.

  • I.m a guitarplayer from germany. It´s not easy to make a good rif. It must be easy to play, an nice to listening.

This one is a realy great job!

    I love it!

  • TE-MA-ZOOO.....que balada mas hermosa...saludos desde chile :D

  • if you'll open your mind for me, you won't rely on open eyes to see.......deep stuff

  • One awesome song !!!! They don't make them like this anymore.

  • damn I love this song.....reminds me of my teen years.

  • I am 34, I am so happy I grew up with real bands. Kids today have no musical hope.

  • @aaqaaqaaqaaqaaqaaqaa hahaha, we do have hope, we just have to look a little harder than you lot had to

  • *sigh* That is like an auditory massage... it's so lovely and soothing, I'm just mush! <3

  • Wow I am literally in tears again, just brings back memories meeting Geoff Tate etc. Always was in love with him, just a beauty of a man! Also, this song is a masterpiece Queensryche is just phenomenal. "Silent Lucidity" just beautiful

  • Ditto every good comment here towards these guys...

Some of us from down in Seattle had some contact with them on occasion,..

And everybody that knows them will agree, they're a "Class act" all of the way.

    Great ballad~ great musicians... :-P

  • when the hell was the day that world miss this one?

  • FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE! Bravo, gentlemen.

  • Hope they play most of empire when supporting JP in Manchester ( the centre of the rock world) in July this year.

  • don't know what's more shocking, that a metal band is playing at an MTV award or that Scott doesn't use a bandana...

  • 20 years ago music kicked ass. So did MTV. How I miss it.

  • gives me chills whenever i hear this!

  • 13 people that don't understand shit...

  • my friend just recently told me about this song and i can't have enouigh of listening to it, long live rock n roll

  • what a voice! what a song! it's just rock & roll

  • it´s a wonderfull video.....

  • A sublime piece of unparalleled majesty and power. On what was what MTV used

to be all about, but has, alas, lost it's way: the music.

  • What is the song about?

  • @sweiland75 The song is about having a lucid dream, a lucid dream is one in which you are aware that you are dreaming, you can manipulate everything about the dream to be however you want it........

  • @SpaceMarineUltra I thought it was about embracing death. Who knows :P

  • brings back a lot of memory, ahh.. those were the days... cardona daze..

  • the best ballad and the best intro

  • boah

  • This the absolute best ever, amazing performance..

  • For my 14 year old son "Wyatt", A great song, incredible vocals, great lyricsand great acoustic guitar. It's been almost two years you left so sudden. I know you would love this one son. I love and miss you. Pop

  • @2112sambo - I too lost my son very suddenly at 30 years of age. As a musician, writing lyrics helps me to ease the pain through artful expression. I concur - this IS a great song with deep meaning. Look to the Heavens at night my friend - the meaning of it all is there - and he will speak to you as my boy has been speaking to me. Love is eternal.

  • @dcchristy01

Thank you to share your feelings with us - I fully agree - This lyrics are absolutely special - love is eternal, yes.

  • @2112sambo I lost my 14 year old son 4 years ago suddenly, this was one of his top songs dcbrabbit

  • T That is a Great Piece.:)
