  • I just couldn't stop laughing when it started to turn into a chair!!! XDDD

  • Lol he pulled it down on himself!!!!!!

  • low budget? not a problem! XD

  • at around 1:38, pause it, turn off this videos audio, and start playing the NOM NOM NOM song.

  • wut.

  • "it looks like black pudding"

  • What a way to go.

  • OMFG! IT'S, leaking air. O_o

  • This Is What You Get When You Buy From Ikya

  • I love this episode!

  • SHAME on the BBC for releasing the dvd of Autons in the USA before the UK!!!!

    Shame on you!

  • you will never look at a chair the same way again

  • Ah, the Master, ever so delighful!

  • And people say that plastic is a wonder of modern science...

  • I normally just type WTF but this deserves a more thought out response, so

    WHAT THE FUCK

  • He made him say comfy chairs...

  • @ishigoto a million up-votes to you, sir.

  • that's an embarrassing way to go...

  • That chair went on to kill Tasha Yar.

  • Low budget!

  • Spoilers for series 6: River Song is the Chair.

  • Does the chair have a namey wamey?

  • Its nice to know theres an extensive budget in this thing!

  • Why can the guy bite the plastic chair, it breaks right?

  • DUUUDUDUDUDUDUUUH

    *Gasp*

    THE CHAIR! It is... INFLATING!

  • This plastic has unique properties. Allow me to demonstrate. It plays techno bass!

  • epic death

  • Of all the clumsy SFX Dr Who has had in it's time, this is one of my absolute favourites. Out of the context of the episode, it's impossible to see how anyone could possible be fooled by the Master just stepping on a foot pump, but that's why we love it so.

  • lol

  • They should bring The Chair back as a villain for Series 7!

  • Music = Amazing

  • I thought it was hokey until my big brother actually tried to smother me with an inflatable chair. I dont take chances now.

  • @qwertyhydro ahhhhhhh shut up so says the Joker and this is a fairly good idea its original so go to hell

  • I had a mattress like that once, on Holiday.

  • God, what a stupid way to die!

  • Yes, this is fairly cheesy, but the detail that the chair is clammy is so fantastically creepy.

  • ROFL!!!!!!! I love how cheesy stupid this is!!!!

  • @jokkett you can't silence me bitch, i admit i'm not a fan, but that doesn't remove the fact that it is a stupid idea and poorly executed, even if it was made in 1763.

  • @qwertyhydro lol 1763? try 1973, not sure they had television in the Regency era

  • 1:37 I just love the noise Delgado!Master makes when he raises his hand.

    "Nuh!"

  • DEATH BY COMFY CHAIR

  • @RoseNoir90 THE COMFY CHAIR!???? O_o

  • @KingLofiOne "I made them say comfy chairs!" ^_^

  • Episode Director: Okay: when you sit down, we'll pop the air valve and you pretend the chair eating you alive.

  • ??????????

  • @jokkett lol

  • that was stupid

  • When the chair started to inflate I thought it sounded as if it was farting

  • As a child this put me off sitting down for quite a while lol

  • And humanity was undone, by an inflatable plastic chair.

  • OH GOD GUYS NOT THE INFLATABLE PLASTIC CHAIR

  • the master reminds me of general zod from superman

  • For a moment I thought the chair was playing that music.

  • Not.... THE COMFY CHAIR!!!!?!!

  • @tf2whackyengineer Haha you said comfy chairs...

    Sorry I'm really corny.

  • thats how i wanna go

  • 9 people cannot accomplish much with just a few inches.

  • wow, people back then died after a few seconds when getting suffocated

  • DAMN YOU IKEA!!!!!

  • Best thing about this is you can see his hand pulling the chair down. 1:44

  • That tune was sick. It should be remixed lol

  • About time this was released on DVD

  • @ least it wasn't a toilet seat

  • "Colonel Masters". LOL!!

  • How embarassing a death would that be: killed by a plastic chair? LOL

  • EPIC!, but wouldn't it be so easy to get out of the chair? he just sort of slides down and lets the chair kill him!

and guy at 2:08 is michael wisher, an actor who would go on to do many dalek voices and play davros in genesis of the daleks

  • I so want them to release a "Roger Delgado" Boxset, with all stories from Season 8. I've always liked this story, even though parents complained about it it still holds out as being a "Doctor Who" classic because of it introducing us to the Doctor's most dangerous and mortal enemy.

  • Worst. Death. Ever.

  • A true evil genius at work.

  • Holy Shit That Was Fucking Petrifying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fuckin Hell

  • Great. Dr Who is all about the seemingly ordinary turning out to be deadly. Bet when this came out it terrified kids everywhere! Would have scared me...

  • What?!

  • This is as silly as Gareth Keenan being crushed by cardboard (The Office).

  • Fetch ... the Comfy Chair!!

  • Wow, a chair that plays Brian Eno tracks!

  • why is james nesbitt dubbing the actor's voice over? I actually saw this happen in an MFI showroom once.

  • If the Master ever offers me a condom, I'm going to flat out refuse!

  • @TylerCharlesFisher Do you think the Master is likely to offer you a condom?

  • @bouledeyuki

The guy uses killer chairs. I wouldn't put anything past him.

  • @TylerCharlesFisher The real question is, would the Autons consent to being sent out as condoms?

  • The Master is like a parent with a bad - tempered child:

"Go and sit in the naughty chair and think about what you've done."

"It looks like a... black puddin'." Epicness.

  • @PedesUmbra

yes It is a Naughty Chair

  • Holy shit an inflatable chair... in the 70s

  • One of the most memorable and chilling scenes from the classic series. Hope there's an improved colour release onto DVD soon.

  • i dont believe it! a belfast actor in doctor who!? yay!

  • I, Love, That, Music.

  • eep:o

  • Omm Nom Nom, insubordination is tasy!

  • The first Master!!! Classic!!

  • It's worth spending a little extra on furniture.

  • plastic chair. random yet evil.

  • THIS is exactly why I adore Doctor Who.

  • "I am many things" :D

  • This master is awesome.

  • bad chair

  • "You'll never sell that, well it looks like a, a black puddin'"

  • RIP Barry Letts

  • Death by plastic chair. Dude, this is why Dr. Who is AWESOME.

  • yay Delgado

this has kinda put me off inflatable plastic furniture

  • They are now selling a Doctor Who inflatable plastic chair for kids. NO JOKE!

  • LOL

  • That music is amazing

  • Roger Delgado IS THE MASTER!

Don't get me wrong, john Simm is great too but just doesn't compare to Roger Delgado as a villlain.

  • i love the special effects, yes nowadays they are all flashsy and computery and look great but these are just hilarious examples of bbc budgeting. I have seen other episodes where they run away from a green sleeping bag wrapped in bubble wrap

  • The Autons have always been a litle like that. Mickey and the Burping Bin for example

  • yes i suppose, it adds humor to the series if it is a little lighter in some places, even still the sleeping bag was obvious.

  • Holy crap. This is funny. I am a Dr Who fan now!

  • Poor Harry Tomb - the guy that was eaten by the chair - sadly passed away recently too (without any dramatics)

  • So it turns into a Black inflatable chair that plays threatening music..

    Genius

  • LOL!, a Prog Rock chair!

  • sure it looks like a... black puddin'

I love how the synth music is SO SERIOUS.. as if it was a real scary scene..

  • i love how The Master very swiftly lets go when the guy sits in the chair and then moves graciously away.

    *sigh*

    *fangirl*

    xxx

  • Agreed. X3

And how calmly he says "The human body has a basic weakness. Which I will exploit to assist in the exploit of humanity."

  • i wonder if the plots followed whatever props they had lying about, or if they actually made plot first and then went out looking for the perfect inflatable plastic chair of death.

  • Totally hilarious & & fab!!!

  • I love it when the Master says "I am many things" so cool, cold and calculated, rest in peace Roger you will always be the true Master.

  • OMG killer inflatable chair... run for your lives!

  • that...was... HILARIOUS!!

  • That has to be one of the most iconic scenes of the Pertwee era, no doubt about it, and when the Master orders for the man to take a seat. Hilarious but also quite petrifying, knowing that even today, plastic is classed as a killer!

  • Saw this episode when I was a youngster.

Between this, the hideous homicidal doll and all the characters with plastic faces being ripped away, I think it's fair to say it scared the living hell out of me.

So, this is where we sign up for the class action lawsuit against the BBC for childhood trauma, right? ;)

  • I love the fact that this isn't actually a spoof... Master ftw...

  • that might get the obesse half of the human race to hit the gym

  • My uncle was swallowed whole by a beanbag chair.

  • @bartov I was too, like five years ago.

  • @bartov A moose once bit my sister.

  • anyone else slightly put off by the ENORMOUS FUCKING NORWICH UNION ADVERT in the top left of the screen?

  • Love how he orders the man to his death, "SIT DOWN!!"

  • There's a great line later in the story when the Master says "He sat in that chair and just... slipped away." LOL

  • black puddin'

  • haha haha

  • That chair should be used to encourage coach potatos to hit the gym.

  • I have to agree with all the Dr. Who fans that love this and Roger Delgado.

  • Sit down man!

  • LOL That was hilarious!

  • This is THE BEST scene from the show ever. I remember the first time watching it I was laughing so hard. Especially when the chair was inflating and the guy is all 'WHAT MATTER OF SORCERY IS THIS?!'

Not in those words but, in my head it was a different matter.

  • Perfect mix of comedy and horror.

  • Thats one badass chair.

  • lol

  • actors.

    people.

    they were... paid for this...

  • is he by any chance called midal? it only came out of the left speaker.

  • PWNED!!!

  • I thought it was a pretty cool chair. I would buy it!

  • to be sure! it looks like a black puddin....great!!!

  • FANTASTIC that is pretty shocking even now, for a kids show at least. And at the time I missed this episode, I was going to a kids party but I wanted to stay and watch the Doc. My dad recorded the audio on reel to reel and it made me even more annoyed to be teased by the sound, but no pics. It was over 25 years later I got to see it when this story came out on video.

  • bad investment , no return ._.

  • damn you eames!!!

  • terror of the Futons! That's a classic! Nice one ha ha.

  • Isn't it "Autons?"

  • Mr Delgado, the definitive Master!

  • Cool... a black pudding that turns into a chair while playing theremin music.

  • PWNT!

  • where can I find a clip of the scene where the Doctor is strangled by a telephone cord and is calling for help?

  • I would be reluctant to sit on a chair that looked like black pudding as well...

  • ahhh how awsome i mean come on how harmles was people back then to actually get scerd at this i asked my mum if she rememberd this one and she was terrified by it lolz

  • The BBC actually got in trouble for airing this episode at the time they did. It was one of the most violent ones shown at the time. The episode features numerous people being shot and suffocated. Terrance Dicks also picked on a scene where there's a fake Auton Policeman trying to shoot the Doctor, saying 'It didn't really help boost trust in your local policemen at the time'.

  • Fear the power of deadly inflating plastic chairs!

  • this never happened to me

maybe you have to click your fingers first

    who rules

  • Ahh, the hazards of working in the plastic industry in the 70s...

  • Lol!

  • the guy whos killed is from seeds of death also

  • the noise sounds like modern drum'n'bass basslines haha!

  • i remember seeing this as a kid, it was alot scarier back then

  • Much better than some of the new ones, pig men , what was that about?

  • I like how the Master eventually loses his cool & orders that poor guy to his death in the Auton chair, LOL!!

  • You can now buy an official Doctor Who inflatable chair. I don't think it's a tie in.

  • I admit, I am a fan of the Auton stories. The idea that some alien has an affinity for plastic is simple yet somehow very interesting.

  • People can make fun of this, but this was considered to be pretty scary in 1971. The whole story got the show in trouble.

  • I agree, Dr Who used to frighten me and my brothers to death back in the 70's. Perhaps back then we had a little more imagination...

  • The Master seems to have tried to capture the market on that crappy blow up furniture that was around in the early 80's, for a couple of weeks, then faded into oblivion forever.

A super evil genius should have realized it was such rubish it couldn't even be sold in America, where they specialize in selling rubbish.

  • terror of the Futons! That's a classic! Nice one ha ha.

  • That last line was awesome.

  • moral of the story: don't sit on any black inflatable that does not do in the water, and Shop at IKEA!
