That Bass is really sexy looking with that back pearl pick guard! I took a poll of women's view of string instrument colors that were most pleasing to them and Red was way out in front with black being a distant second place. Its funny because I once read that women's favorite color for Chevy Corvette was also red! I think that maple neck really helps that Bass become stage eye candy! No offence; but I think you made a seriously big mistake selling that Bass;..time will tell!
@zenjim007 - No offense taken. I buy, sell and trade a lot of gear. I like to try as much stuff as I can and I need more time with equipment than just noodling for a half hour in a music store before I really know how I feel about something. In this case, I thought the 5 string Jazz was an awesome bass but I already have a Geddy Jazz I decided to trade the 5-string for an American Standard Precision. I should do a demo on that one, its my favorite bass by a long shot.
@Astrohman I understand; however that seems like an expensive hobby since every time you sell new gear used, you take a loss; because there's no way around that . Is The Geddy Jazz a 5 string? I have never seen him with anything but 4 string bass. By all means do a demo. I wish I had bought your 5 string; I don't mind the weight and love the low B.
@elmolewis9 - Sure, depending on the condition of the bass. You can probably find one slightly cheaper if you keep searching but if the bass is in excellent condition and you like the way it plays and feels, its not a rip-off to pay a grand for one.
@Thommislav - Worth is an objective thing so I don't know that there is any right or wrong answer to that question. I can tell you that I thought the instrument was easily worth the cost in terms of quality of materials, overall construction, playability, looks and feel. While I have traded mine (I buy/sell and trade a lot of gear), I wouldn't hesitate to get another if the need arose.
I've been playing a 4 string Squier P-Bass, and I'm looking at purchasing a new bass. I'm thinking 5 string, and am considering J Bass. This one looks impressive, weight was never a problem for me.
@Astrohman... Thanks for your comment. I actually just bought the Fender American standard 5 string and you are right, it's an AMAZING bass! neck is a little wider than my previous bass and like u said, is gonna take some time to get used to it. I'm trying to spend as much time as I can practicing so I can be comfortable with it soon.
@CHUCKS78 - I can tell you that I loved it while I had it (I no longer have it). I had no problem whatsoever with the B string....in fact, I found it to be one of the better B strings I've played. The size of the neck takes some getting used to but I have nothing but positive things to say about that bass.
@SeanMC114 - Hmmm, major difference? No, I wouldn't say major difference. However, I do feel the Badass gives a bit more sustain. In terms of tone, the Geddy has a bit more mid-range punch but I don't know how much of that is related to the Bad Ass as opposed to the overall neck profile.
I'm used to the narrow neck on 5 string basses, is it difficult to get used to this wide neck bass and play fast on it? To me I think a narrow neck would be able to play faster?
@lightspeed79 - It depends on how big your hands are and what you find comfortable. I can tell you that its easier for me to play fast on smaller necks. The neck on this bass took some time to get used to.
@eckie4679 - Back when I made this demo, I had Sadowsky's on it...I've also used GHS Bass Boomers. These days I'm going with DR High Beams and DR Fat Beams on my basses.
@babidaboopy - It depends on the bass. In this case, if we're talking about Fender's, the neck on the 5-string Jazz is significantly wider than the neck on my Geddy Jazz. Depending on what you're used to, its a fairly big adjustment to get used to the wider neck.
I'm considering the 5-String Jazz (it will take me a long time to get the money for it), but I love the Fender Jazz Bass. Very bright, clean tone. The one I play now is the Fender Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass, which I got for only $300. You made a very nice buy, I'm glad to see that people love Fender. I would get the white five string with the rosewood fingerboard. Fender American Standard 5-String Jazz Bass V.
I got the american standard 4 string jazz bass for christmas. I love it. i am thinking for my next bass to get this one. maybe a different finish but i love the feel of my jazz bass and the sound is amazing.
damn !! i love this bass

@Jbass604 - Nope, I traded it....not because I disliked this bass but because I had a very specific need for something else at the time of the trade.

Nice bass! I've been reading a lot of negative comments about the 5th string on this bass ....
Can you tell me your overall experience with this bass?
I really want to get this bass so any advise would be welcome.

What's the difference in feeling when playing a 5 string compared to a 4? Is the neck a lot wider or is it just a little bit bigger?
