i think this song is a classic, and im only 19. first heard it on my grandas record player bout 9years ago. lost the record then. :( tried evrywer to get it. then heard it on the tv, it was part of an advert. brought bk memories, then i found it on youtubr. :):) thanks 4 putin it up.
Thank you Lonnie Donegan. Because of you, a boy named John Lennon formed a skiffle group called the Quarrymen, and that group went on to become the Beatles.
We used to listen to this song on every car journey when we were little. My brother seriously thought that foghorns were made out of "boom boom" for ages!
I heard just the intro on a TV show. This song was a fifth-grade classroom favorite! After 45+ years, the lyrics came right back to me. Thanks for posting.
Ooooh, I used to have a collection of silly songs that I loved as a kid and this was one of them!
I was enthralled when I found the tape.
I can't seem to find the version with the skit in the middle, though... one of them interrupts the song and they argue for a minute before the song goes on.

BRILLIANT! My mom used to sing this to me when I was little. I remember reading somewhere that he was a big influence on The Beatles, and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. Such a cute song & very uplifting music :)
Without Lonnie, there wouldn't be any Beatles. George met John as teens because they were both huge Lonnie Donegan fans. They first started a skiffle band. True. Thanks for the post

My late great Uncle Marty Bloom co-wrote this song with Billy Rose and Ernest Breuer.
Martin Blumenthal (Marty Bloom) was also the manager for Jelly Roll Morton and Fats Waller.
