So you have to get abusive right off the bat? I know the Beverly Hillibillies was on CBS. My point is that the rural purge of the early 70's eliminated great shows like IDOJ from all the networks. Wow. I'm not going to call you an idiot though. Someone has to take the high road and be an adult here.

NBC was going to cancel the show if Sidney Sheldon didn't marry them.

The show's ratings for the 4th season were very good but the network was looking more for PR. They certainly got it and cancelled the series. It was also opposite The Mod Squad which didn't help. Also every series which aired at 7:30pm (on all 3 networks) faired poorly during the 1969-71 seasons.

@Fgrandinetti Also the end of this show was close to the "rural purge" of shows in the early 70's that claimed The Beverly Hillbillies and other shows that were either rural based, fantasy based or had older audiences in favor of urban set shows were more realistic. BTW I personally love this show

@Fgrandinetti It's interesting that NBC was going to cancel the show if Sidney Sheldon didn't have them get married. Barbara and Larry fought it. They didn't want Jeannie and Tony to get married because they probably knew that would be the end of the show. They were obviously right.

@girlierichie I remember watching Barbara Eden saying that her and Larry fought against Jeannie and Tony getting married. However, according to IMDB, when asked why did the show go off the air, Barbara Eden replied that producers felt they had enough episodes for a syndication sale.She also attributed the end of the show to the fact that Tony and Jeannie got married, so the show lost viewers. Sidney Sheldon, Larry Hagman, and Bill Daily also agreed with the latter.
