Total crap actually. For the same price on ebay you can get normal, heavy platter, direct drive, non- made in china turntable that is made by technics, sony etc. brands from 80's
I bought my turntable on ebay. Hitachi HT-355 and it works like a clock, has pretty heavy platter and, of course, direct drive. Made in japan. ;)
@inpankli They are both the same exact thing, except the Pioneer has the strobe and pitch control while the Sony does not. And right now you can get a very good price on the PL990 direct from Pioneer's web site -- better than even used ones are selling for on eBay!
@skidder151 It only sounds that way to me when I listen quietly, so turn up your volume and listen again, so you can understand my New Jersey accent. :-)
Can I ask you one more question, you said you have a sony, -would you happen to mean the PSLX300USB? I have that one, & have been playing it for only a month, & it just started playing to slow & sounding warped, is there any way to fix it so it goes fast enough?
Well, I've bought this turntable and I have to point its one disadvantage. The needle is very sensitive and it jams (loops) or jumps on even invisible scratches and slight dirt, that my old tt's skipped without a problem, sometimes "farting" a little at most :)
@vwestlife Thanks, I just didn't hear it because of my bad english ;) Just one more question, could you compare it with Denon DP-29F. I don't know which of these two should I choose. Denon is ever more expesive, but I can't find if it has antiskate.
@ksufler None of these turntables have anti-skating compensation. I'm surprised the Denon is actually more expensive than the Pioneer, because it doesn't have the pitch control and strobe.
@videoman00001 The cartridge is permanently affixed. It is an Audio Technica AT-3600 equivalent cartridge. Most people think it sounds very good for the price.
@rafael502 I think the Pioneer actually sounds better than the Audio-Technica, although it doesn't have all of the fancy features and the build quality is much cheaper.
Every record player causes a very tiny amount of "damage" (groove wear) every time it plays a record. But if used and cared for properly, this wear will be so small and unnoticeable that you'll still be able to get a lifetime's worth of enjoyment out of your records.
3. Should I get this over the audio-technica one? I don't really need all the fancy features, I just want a turntable that can play my 12" and 7" vinyls with a good sound quality.
@vwestlife thank you very much! I'm going to buy this turntable, but got a bit worried by a comment that it shouldn't be used with a subwoofer/big speakers to play some fast or bassy music, cos the stylus will slide cos of vibrations, do you think it's true? I thought it might be true for real big floor speakers, some parties were the sound is really loud and that sort of stuff, but I'm gonna use it for a 20m^2 room with Sven Royal 2 and maybe a small subwoofer, is it going to be a problem?
Hey man. I have a Technics turntable and a Stanton SMX 202 2 channel mixer. I need some speakers that have RCA outputs/inputs instead of wire terminals. Do you know a good brand that have those types of speakers for about $100? Please help man. Thanks a ton! :)
One last question but I noticed the back around the platter is raised, Will that cause problems on vinyl that are possible a little misshapen or warped.
How exactly did you attacked the plate. I saw you did something with the red string attached to the platter but I could not see exactly what you were doing, never really serviced or put on together before.
When it says it is a fully automatic system does that mean that you press play and it also starts on its own without you needing to raise the needle and move it over yourself.
@awhitekeet Very little. Overall it performs far better than you'd expect for such a cheap design. I use the PL-990 almost exclusively on my music channel (vwest1ife) if you'd like to give it a listen.
@awhitekeet 3 to 5 grams is the design standard for LPs, and is what most professional DJ turntables track at. This will not cause any appreciable wear to your records, as long as you clean the stylus periodically and replace it when it gets worn.
@Jandagila There is no voltage selector switch, but I'm sure if you buy one in country that uses 220-240V power, then you'll get the model built for that voltage range.
hey, i was just wondering, will i be able to plug this into a pair of speakers, and then simply play my vinyls? Or is it more complicated than that? (this is my first turntable, so sorry for my retardations.) I'm getting it on Saturday hopefully!
@Renneskid The turntable does not have a built-in amplifier, so you need to use either a stereo system as your amp, or a pair of amplified PC speakers.
Hey mate, do both the Pioneer and Sony turntables play sound in mono? I have many LPs and 45s that are in mono, most notably Elvis Presley, Marvin Gaye, and The Beatles. Which turntable is made with higher quality? Please respond soon :)
@ninenine909 Both the Pioneer and Sony turntables are exactly the same, except the Pioneer gives you a pitch control while the Sony does not. They do play mono LP and 45 RPM records just fine.
Thank you so much for this video. I just got this model recently as a gift. It's the first record player I've ever had, and I had no idea how to assemble or make it work. What's more, the instructions included were for a different model. This video was extremely helpful and useful in assembling my record player, so once again, thank you.
i've got one... im selling it for 1.4million. If there are any buyers just message me! Its in excellent working condition.... if you think your rich. BUY IT!
@SuperCreagh This is *NOT* a DJ turntable. It is for regular playback only. Never attempt to spin the record backwards, or you will very quickly wear out both the stylus and the record.
I've just been getting into vinyl and am about to buy a player. I am trying to decide between the Pioneer and a Gemini XL500II. Do you have any advice for a beginner?
@michaelgoldberg29 The Gemini is designed for DJs and requires a phono preamp or a receiver with a phono input. The Pioneer is designed for home use, so it is easier to set up and plugs right in to the aux input of almost any stereo system.
I have a question, could you hook up a ortofon 2m red to this. How would you hook that up to a p-mount like this? The last question, is the built in preamp bad on this, could you still hook up an external preamp on this and still make the sound better?
@UltimateDarknezz999 The PL-990's cartridge fitment is not P-mount; it is proprietary and cannot be replaced. You can upgrade to an elliptical stylus, however, for a modest improvement in the sound. The built-in preamp is very good. If you would like to use a different cartridge or an external pre-amp, then the PL-990 will not suit your needs. It is a basic "plug-and-play" turntable for people who want something inexpensive, easy to set up, and good quality.
@metalslay666 Since you are hearing the "needle talk", that means the problem is most likely in the cartridge or preamp board, not the stylus itself. If you bought the turntable recently from a store or online vendor, you should contact them and ask for an exchange. Or if it's been longer than their exchange period but the turntable is still under warranty, call up Pioneer and ask them to repair or replace it.
@metalslay666 Maybe the cartridge is defective. If you set the needle down on a record and put your ear up to it while it's playing, can you hear the music faintly just from the needle vibrating in the groove? That way you at least know the stylus is good.
@cubanboy182 I am "this guy" and if you gave me $500 or $1000 to spend I would certainly buy a better turntable. But I can't afford that, so for around $100, this Pioneer is an excellent choice. Not everybody who enjoys listening to vinyl is rich, and you'd be surprised at how well the sound of this turntable actually stacks up in comparison to much more expensive ones.
@metalslay666 I noticed you're in the UK. In Europe, most 45s are pressed with the small center hole, so you don't need the 45 adapter. It is for American 45s which are pressed with the large center hole.
That is precisely my problem with it. So I wasnt sure if you could tghten the screws on the bottom. it would be pretty boss if you could. Anybody know about this?
@bugleboy5 I've looked inside mine but couldn't find a way to make the tonearm lower down more gradually on its own. So the best thing to do is just use the manual cueing button, which lets you lower the tonearm as gently as you want.
I just have one question, you mentioned the tonearm adjustments on the underside of the table. As far as I knew, there were no tonearm adjustments possible on this model. Which of the three screws are for what aspect of the tonearm. Mine seems to slam down hard on the record when you let the needle drop using the mechanism. I find it is harsh to the ears and to the vinyl.
@bugleboy5 I've never had to touch the tonearm adjustments, so I don't know exactly what they do. The tonearm lifter spring is a flimsy piece of plastic which tends to wear out with age and cause the tonearm to drop more quickly, but if you're concerned about that, you can gradually let go of the tonearm lifter button with your finger to get a smooth needle-drop.
hi, i was given now a sony PS-LX300USB which looks alot like your pioneer. but im having issues in removing the stylus' protective lid but you do it quite easily and the instructions on the turntable are absolutely rubbish. help?
@polidosk8 There are two different kinds of the protective cover: one that swings up and down on a hinge, and another that you just slip on and pull off. The swing-down type is supposed to always stay on the cartridge, but you can pry it off completely if you want.
@vwestlife the problem is that the cover is really stuck onto it and is metal. i've tried all the things you said but i dont want to force it too much
@polidosk8 The only thing that's metal is the cartridge itself, which should not be removed! It is only visible if the stylus (needle) is removed or missing. If you are new to turntables, I suggest you bring it to a more experienced person and let them help you set it up.
Hi! I was wondering if the length of that tone arm brings the needle past the spindle or short of the spindle when you bring it center of the platter.
@dhsc19 The automatic return mechanism prevents you from moving the tonearm all the way to the center of the platter, but it is indeed a rather short tonearm. The specifications for the very similar Optimus LAB-1100 turntable (same chassis) lists the tonearm length as 195 mm.
Just to make sure I got my corners covered, planning to buy this turntable BUT I'm only interested in listening to vinyls like old record players, nothing more nor less. Should I go for it?
@i8urBabies For around $100, you can't beat the Pioneer. Of course for double or triple the price, there are better turntables out there, but the PL-990 is an excellent budget buy.
@vwestlife well to tell you the truth, i skipped through most of it so i apologise for my foolish mistake. Perhaps actually watching videos before I comment would be a good idea.
@SuperKherlen It has a space for a voltage selector switch, but nothing is installed. So maybe a 220V version exists in other countries, but the U.S. version is 120V only.
I consider to buy this turntable to be able to play my mum's old LPs. I'm so glad to hear that the sound is okay on this one! Have you ever listened to the Lenco L-3866? I can't hardly find any reviews on that one, but it seems pretty equal to your Pioneer (but it also has a USB function).
Believe him, this is really plastic crap from China, you can buy Pro-Ject Debut III starting at 300 USD and the quality of the reproduction will blow you out!!! Its necessary to have a good turntable when you want to enjoy analog.
@rafficek Not everybody has $300 to spend on a new turntable. For just over $100, the Pioneer is easy to set up and use, sounds good, and lets you save your money to spend on LPs and 45s to listen to!
@vwestlife Well, for $100 you can get older and QUALITY turntables from eBay such as Lenco, Dual, even Pioneer! These 20-30 year old turntables are well made from quality materials. What I appreciate is that you want to enjoy vinyl, you will not be disappointed:)
@rafficek I've had my share of old turntables too. Many sound excellent, but it takes some degree of knowledge and care to repair, operate, and maintain them. This Pioneer turntable is ideal for the vinyl novice who just wants to enjoy the music, without worrying too much about the turntable itself.
So, would you recommend this system to someone like myself who is not an audiophile, is on a pretty tight budget, but wants something better than a cheap Crosley player?
@jonmayo15 Yes, this is an excellent sounding turntable for the price. I'm not sure if J&R still has this Pioneer available, but the Sony PS-LX250H is the exact same thing except without the pitch control and strobe.
Hey, did you like the T4P / "P-mount" turntable era? I like the ones whose cuing lever is placed near the tonearm; the only ones by Technics worth owning, AT ALL, are those which were operated FULLY AUTOMATICALLY. I just LOVED my Service Merchandise era Garrard semiautomatic T4P tt. Did you ever own a T4P tt? If so, what was owning one like? Do you wish that T4P tts were once again widely manufactured, and not this 2.5 - 3.5 gram tracking hum-having crap? Thanks for answering.
I had a P-Mount based Technics SL-BD20D turntable and I wasn't too happy with it. Even with an upgraded cartridge and brand new stylus, it had noticeable distortion on the inner grooves. The featherlight tracking force is also not suitable for playing warped records. But I may still try a linear tracking turntable (which I believe are all P-Mount) just to see what they sound like.
I have always kept my turntables and the LPs. The CDs and CD players are second to my LPs. and turntables. I have The Luxman PD-131 that is posted, and a Thorens TD-125 MK 11 with a Rabco SL8 E linear tracking tonearm. The Bang and Olufsen RX2 that is also posted. I have a vintage Rek-O-Kut, and tonearm which was my 1st transcription turntable. Glad to see budget turntables coming back high end tables have always been around like the Sota, VPi, and Continuum
My Pioneer DV-610AV universal DVD player was made in Thailand ), I don't know whether it is better or not than if it was made in china. BTW it still works ;)
Doesn't look like a bad turntable for basic use. If I was going to by a brand new one though, I would probably go with a higher end model, like a Rega, Music Hall, or Pro-Ject.
Looks like it has a basic Audio Technica 3600 type cartridge.
The Best Buy here has those MJ Thriller picture disks for $19.99. I'd say you got a good deal.
I've never been much of a Michael Jackson fan, otherwise I'd get one.
Those turntables you mention are all very good, but they also cost hundreds of dollars more than this one! These cheap generic turntables offer very good audio quality, for the price.
Most good quality turntables are from 450 to 2500, but If you want to see some really expensive turntables type in on youtube The worlds most expensive turntable, they are from 100.000 to 200.000. Now that is unbelievably expensive.
That's a nice record player! This really must be one of the better ones. Really nice that it is a full automatic type. I really want to have a full automatic record player, but they're hard to find... years ago I had a late 80s Grundig (rebadged Philips) record player, the quality and the features were pretty much the same as on your record player, except mine had no strobe and a sensor to switch between LPs and singles. But the mechanism was slightly messed up so I finally threw it away...
Did this machine come with a 45 adaptor? The red one there is the same one you use on your vinyl channel. I would find it awkward if it didn't come with one.
It does come with a 45 adapter -- you can see it at 1:55 in the video. I use the red one because it has a cone-shaped top which makes it easier to just "plop" a 45 on the turntable and have it perfectly centered.
You have to be careful with USB turntables because many of them, such as from Grace Audio, Vinylwriter, Numark, and Ion use a cheap ceramic cartridge and sound really horrible. And if your computer has a perfectly good analog line input, then there's no reason to use a USB turntable anyway. Google "USB turntable comparison" and click on the first result for a web page with lots of info!
Thanks for the info. Im reading reviews on Amazon for a certain USB turntable, and it has many negative reviews. I guess I won't be getting a USB turntable after all. It is a neat idea though, but poorly executed.
I actually do have an analog record player hooked into my computer's line input jack. It's an old Quasar CS5 Integrated Audio System that has a good turntable. I think the cartridge is ceramic, but it sounds pretty good at least to me.
Quasar is made by Panasonic and the two Panasonic stereo systems I have both have very good sounding turntables even though they use a ceramic cartridge.
@vwestlife Do you know if this turntable supports the Audio-Technica AT-95E?
Pyr0t3ch 4 weeks ago
@Pyr0t3ch No. The cartridge is proprietary and cannot be changed.
vwestlife 4 weeks ago
@vwestlife OK, thanks for answering :) Do you use the stylus that came with it, or do you have a recommandation for an alternative?
Pyr0t3ch 4 weeks ago
@Pyr0t3ch You can get an upgraded elliptical stylus on eBay, but I don't hear much difference between it and the included conical stylus.

OldMusicOnVinyl1 1 year ago
does it work with virtual dj
SuperCreagh 1 year ago
@SuperCreagh This is *NOT* a DJ turntable. It is for regular playback only. Never attempt to spin the record backwards, or you will very quickly wear out both the stylus and the record.
vwestlife 1 year ago
I've just been getting into vinyl and am about to buy a player. I am trying to decide between the Pioneer and a Gemini XL500II. Do you have any advice for a beginner?
michaelgoldberg29 1 year ago
@michaelgoldberg29 The Gemini is designed for DJs and requires a phono preamp or a receiver with a phono input. The Pioneer is designed for home use, so it is easier to set up and plugs right in to the aux input of almost any stereo system.
vwestlife 1 year ago
can you make mixes on c.d. with just this turntable?
proonehander 1 year ago
@proonehander No.
vwestlife 1 year ago
In this turntable it is possible to switch off the red light in the front or not?
splendente88 1 year ago
@splendente88 No, it stays on whenever the turntable is playing.
vwestlife 1 year ago
I am very new to record players and know nothing about them, I was wondering if ou could tell me what all I need with this player
beiberhaterz 1 year ago
@beiberhaterz Just a stereo system with an aux input, and some records to play!
vwestlife 1 year ago
what do you think about kenwood turntable p110?
splendente88 1 year ago
@splendente88 I have no experience with it, because that model was not sold in the USA.
vwestlife 1 year ago
I have a question, could you hook up a ortofon 2m red to this. How would you hook that up to a p-mount like this? The last question, is the built in preamp bad on this, could you still hook up an external preamp on this and still make the sound better?
UltimateDarknezz999 1 year ago
@UltimateDarknezz999 The PL-990's cartridge fitment is not P-mount; it is proprietary and cannot be replaced. You can upgrade to an elliptical stylus, however, for a modest improvement in the sound. The built-in preamp is very good. If you would like to use a different cartridge or an external pre-amp, then the PL-990 will not suit your needs. It is a basic "plug-and-play" turntable for people who want something inexpensive, easy to set up, and good quality.
vwestlife 1 year ago
I bought the same turntable (not new) at Goodwill. $10 !
Biffbradford 1 year ago
@metalslay666 Since you are hearing the "needle talk", that means the problem is most likely in the cartridge or preamp board, not the stylus itself. If you bought the turntable recently from a store or online vendor, you should contact them and ask for an exchange. Or if it's been longer than their exchange period but the turntable is still under warranty, call up Pioneer and ask them to repair or replace it.
vwestlife 1 year ago
@metalslay666 Maybe the cartridge is defective. If you set the needle down on a record and put your ear up to it while it's playing, can you hear the music faintly just from the needle vibrating in the groove? That way you at least know the stylus is good.
vwestlife 1 year ago
this guy has crapy turntables get some new ones
cubanboy182 1 year ago
@cubanboy182 I am "this guy" and if you gave me $500 or $1000 to spend I would certainly buy a better turntable. But I can't afford that, so for around $100, this Pioneer is an excellent choice. Not everybody who enjoys listening to vinyl is rich, and you'd be surprised at how well the sound of this turntable actually stacks up in comparison to much more expensive ones.
vwestlife 1 year ago
@metalslay666 I noticed you're in the UK. In Europe, most 45s are pressed with the small center hole, so you don't need the 45 adapter. It is for American 45s which are pressed with the large center hole.
vwestlife 1 year ago
what is the middle orange piece called, you used it to play the 45 (the small record)
fsinte11997 1 year ago
@fsinte11997 It is simply called a 45 RPM adapter.

zivaray 1 year ago
That is precisely my problem with it. So I wasnt sure if you could tghten the screws on the bottom. it would be pretty boss if you could. Anybody know about this?
bugleboy5 1 year ago
@bugleboy5 I've looked inside mine but couldn't find a way to make the tonearm lower down more gradually on its own. So the best thing to do is just use the manual cueing button, which lets you lower the tonearm as gently as you want.
vwestlife 1 year ago
I just have one question, you mentioned the tonearm adjustments on the underside of the table. As far as I knew, there were no tonearm adjustments possible on this model. Which of the three screws are for what aspect of the tonearm. Mine seems to slam down hard on the record when you let the needle drop using the mechanism. I find it is harsh to the ears and to the vinyl.
bugleboy5 1 year ago
@bugleboy5 I've never had to touch the tonearm adjustments, so I don't know exactly what they do. The tonearm lifter spring is a flimsy piece of plastic which tends to wear out with age and cause the tonearm to drop more quickly, but if you're concerned about that, you can gradually let go of the tonearm lifter button with your finger to get a smooth needle-drop.
vwestlife 1 year ago
hi, i was given now a sony PS-LX300USB which looks alot like your pioneer. but im having issues in removing the stylus' protective lid but you do it quite easily and the instructions on the turntable are absolutely rubbish. help?
polidosk8 1 year ago
@polidosk8 There are two different kinds of the protective cover: one that swings up and down on a hinge, and another that you just slip on and pull off. The swing-down type is supposed to always stay on the cartridge, but you can pry it off completely if you want.
vwestlife 1 year ago
@vwestlife the problem is that the cover is really stuck onto it and is metal. i've tried all the things you said but i dont want to force it too much
polidosk8 1 year ago
@polidosk8 The only thing that's metal is the cartridge itself, which should not be removed! It is only visible if the stylus (needle) is removed or missing. If you are new to turntables, I suggest you bring it to a more experienced person and let them help you set it up.
vwestlife 1 year ago
Hi! I was wondering if the length of that tone arm brings the needle past the spindle or short of the spindle when you bring it center of the platter.
dhsc19 1 year ago
@dhsc19 The automatic return mechanism prevents you from moving the tonearm all the way to the center of the platter, but it is indeed a rather short tonearm. The specifications for the very similar Optimus LAB-1100 turntable (same chassis) lists the tonearm length as 195 mm.
vwestlife 1 year ago
you like old stuff don't ya? me too
MmmayuT 1 year ago
That was quite informative, thx.
Just to make sure I got my corners covered, planning to buy this turntable BUT I'm only interested in listening to vinyls like old record players, nothing more nor less. Should I go for it?
i8urBabies 1 year ago
@i8urBabies For around $100, you can't beat the Pioneer. Of course for double or triple the price, there are better turntables out there, but the PL-990 is an excellent budget buy.
vwestlife 1 year ago
@vwestlife well to tell you the truth, i skipped through most of it so i apologise for my foolish mistake. Perhaps actually watching videos before I comment would be a good idea.
Owen045 1 year ago
Is it just a phono input? Could you plug it into an auxillary line for a mini cd system?
Owen045 1 year ago
@Owen045 Did you actually watch the video? I say the answer to your question quite clearly in it.

$100.00 don't buy much in the way of a turntable, that's for sure!
joey1127 1 year ago
is it 120/220v?
SuperKherlen 2 years ago
@SuperKherlen It has a space for a voltage selector switch, but nothing is installed. So maybe a 220V version exists in other countries, but the U.S. version is 120V only.
vwestlife 2 years ago
Thanks. I really want a turntable hehe. Sony's turntable has same voltage as this Pioneer :(
Wonder why is it so hard to them to have universal power supply?
SuperKherlen 2 years ago
I consider to buy this turntable to be able to play my mum's old LPs. I'm so glad to hear that the sound is okay on this one! Have you ever listened to the Lenco L-3866? I can't hardly find any reviews on that one, but it seems pretty equal to your Pioneer (but it also has a USB function).
SkylarkDiamond 2 years ago
Cheap Cinese made plastic rubbish! Buy yourself a proper turntable such as a Rega or Pro-ject!
mertonparka 2 years ago
@mertonparka If you can tell me where I can buy one for $100, then I would love to. Not everyone has an unlimited budget to spend on vinyl.
vwestlife 2 years ago
Believe him, this is really plastic crap from China, you can buy Pro-Ject Debut III starting at 300 USD and the quality of the reproduction will blow you out!!! Its necessary to have a good turntable when you want to enjoy analog.
rafficek 1 year ago
@rafficek Not everybody has $300 to spend on a new turntable. For just over $100, the Pioneer is easy to set up and use, sounds good, and lets you save your money to spend on LPs and 45s to listen to!
vwestlife 1 year ago
@vwestlife Well, for $100 you can get older and QUALITY turntables from eBay such as Lenco, Dual, even Pioneer! These 20-30 year old turntables are well made from quality materials. What I appreciate is that you want to enjoy vinyl, you will not be disappointed:)
rafficek 1 year ago
@rafficek I've had my share of old turntables too. Many sound excellent, but it takes some degree of knowledge and care to repair, operate, and maintain them. This Pioneer turntable is ideal for the vinyl novice who just wants to enjoy the music, without worrying too much about the turntable itself.

So, would you recommend this system to someone like myself who is not an audiophile, is on a pretty tight budget, but wants something better than a cheap Crosley player?
jonmayo15 2 years ago
@jonmayo15 Yes, this is an excellent sounding turntable for the price. I'm not sure if J&R still has this Pioneer available, but the Sony PS-LX250H is the exact same thing except without the pitch control and strobe.
vwestlife 2 years ago
I just bought one from Amazon, one of the last six they had in stock, it's unavailable now.
jonmayo15 2 years ago
Hey, did you like the T4P / "P-mount" turntable era? I like the ones whose cuing lever is placed near the tonearm; the only ones by Technics worth owning, AT ALL, are those which were operated FULLY AUTOMATICALLY. I just LOVED my Service Merchandise era Garrard semiautomatic T4P tt. Did you ever own a T4P tt? If so, what was owning one like? Do you wish that T4P tts were once again widely manufactured, and not this 2.5 - 3.5 gram tracking hum-having crap? Thanks for answering.
dwsh1 2 years ago
I had a P-Mount based Technics SL-BD20D turntable and I wasn't too happy with it. Even with an upgraded cartridge and brand new stylus, it had noticeable distortion on the inner grooves. The featherlight tracking force is also not suitable for playing warped records. But I may still try a linear tracking turntable (which I believe are all P-Mount) just to see what they sound like.
vwestlife 2 years ago
I have always kept my turntables and the LPs. The CDs and CD players are second to my LPs. and turntables. I have The Luxman PD-131 that is posted, and a Thorens TD-125 MK 11 with a Rabco SL8 E linear tracking tonearm. The Bang and Olufsen RX2 that is also posted. I have a vintage Rek-O-Kut, and tonearm which was my 1st transcription turntable. Glad to see budget turntables coming back high end tables have always been around like the Sota, VPi, and Continuum
maynardcat 2 years ago
Its amazing that even well known high brands like Pioneer are now manufactured in China! Terrible, as they were always Japanese or European.

My Pioneer DV-610AV universal DVD player was made in Thailand ), I don't know whether it is better or not than if it was made in china. BTW it still works ;)
BeeOwGeeDeeAyN 2 years ago
Lucky you are to be able to buy a brand new turntable. In our country it's impossible to find any ((. Only some turntables for DJs.
I Do want to buy something like yours pioneer...
BeeOwGeeDeeAyN 2 years ago
Doesn't look like a bad turntable for basic use. If I was going to by a brand new one though, I would probably go with a higher end model, like a Rega, Music Hall, or Pro-Ject.
Looks like it has a basic Audio Technica 3600 type cartridge.
The Best Buy here has those MJ Thriller picture disks for $19.99. I'd say you got a good deal.
I've never been much of a Michael Jackson fan, otherwise I'd get one.
JeffN727 2 years ago
Those turntables you mention are all very good, but they also cost hundreds of dollars more than this one! These cheap generic turntables offer very good audio quality, for the price.
vwestlife 2 years ago
Most good quality turntables are from 450 to 2500, but If you want to see some really expensive turntables type in on youtube The worlds most expensive turntable, they are from 100.000 to 200.000. Now that is unbelievably expensive.
maynardcat 2 years ago
Nice turntable and a very nice MJ LP to go with it. :) JC

Nice turntable! I was a little surprised to see a strobe and a pitch control on one of those types of turntables. Cool!
wilkes85 2 years ago
That's a nice record player! This really must be one of the better ones. Really nice that it is a full automatic type. I really want to have a full automatic record player, but they're hard to find... years ago I had a late 80s Grundig (rebadged Philips) record player, the quality and the features were pretty much the same as on your record player, except mine had no strobe and a sensor to switch between LPs and singles. But the mechanism was slightly messed up so I finally threw it away...
DrCassette 2 years ago
I ordered my wireless microphone set for my new HDC SD100 from J&R. They have some nice stuff.
The turntable I had while growing had a pitch control. It was a MCS which was made by Technics. It was a nice set-up. Couldn't turn it up too loud.

interesting thing about Pioneer, Aiwa, and Sony.
umajunkcollector 2 years ago
Did this machine come with a 45 adaptor? The red one there is the same one you use on your vinyl channel. I would find it awkward if it didn't come with one.
NEUDude 2 years ago
It does come with a 45 adapter -- you can see it at 1:55 in the video. I use the red one because it has a cone-shaped top which makes it easier to just "plop" a 45 on the turntable and have it perfectly centered.
vwestlife 2 years ago
Have you ever tried those Ion USB turntables for the computer?
EncoreEnterprisesLLC 2 years ago
You have to be careful with USB turntables because many of them, such as from Grace Audio, Vinylwriter, Numark, and Ion use a cheap ceramic cartridge and sound really horrible. And if your computer has a perfectly good analog line input, then there's no reason to use a USB turntable anyway. Google "USB turntable comparison" and click on the first result for a web page with lots of info!
vwestlife 2 years ago
Thanks for the info. Im reading reviews on Amazon for a certain USB turntable, and it has many negative reviews. I guess I won't be getting a USB turntable after all. It is a neat idea though, but poorly executed.
I actually do have an analog record player hooked into my computer's line input jack. It's an old Quasar CS5 Integrated Audio System that has a good turntable. I think the cartridge is ceramic, but it sounds pretty good at least to me.
EncoreEnterprisesLLC 2 years ago
Quasar is made by Panasonic and the two Panasonic stereo systems I have both have very good sounding turntables even though they use a ceramic cartridge.
vwestlife 2 years ago
Thats interesting as I have seen Quasar camcorders on ebay which look like Panasonic obviously. :)
