in order to validate your question i would have to believe in god because whereas some cultures hold their religious ideals above that of their state others have moved on. most religious texts have passages in them calling for barbaric punishments for mundane crimes. the real problem is knowing when to use your own brain instead of treating the bible as the written word of god.
