The service is free for the standard plan which gives you up to 2GB of storage. Other plans cost and will allow more features. I believe the enterprise edition works on other devices such as android, mac and windows(I understand why but still a little weird).

OpenOffice is an open source version of Microsoft Office that is just as good. There is no reason to pay for Word anymore. word processing software is nothing special anymore; it's not 1995 anymore Mr. Gates.
