(On virtual machine - Vbox) I tip "pacman -Syu", download 367Mb of stuff and my computer restart and erase everthing, and my internet don't pass 86Kb/s (PS: I'm on Brasil...)
I was a little reluctant in the beginning. After getting disappointed looking for the best distro IMO, I'm giving arch linux a try on a VM having ubuntu jaunty as host. I can't say how much I'm excited after reading about its idea on wikipedia... No junk installed and extremely flexible. I really hope it fits my needs as someone else posted here its the end of his search for a suitable linux distro!
@orasis I'm using Ubuntu right now, but i've been wanting to use Arch SOOOOO much. But I also want to use a mac. It's one or the other and i can't decide which one.

what's a wrapper as read in the description and why would one use it?
Juilkca 9 months ago
@srikanthradix I alternate between powerpill, yaourt, clyde, and just pacman by itself. They're all wrappers using pacman anyway, yeah.

Yeah, Vbox slows your connection down, because of virtualizing the network card, and the amount of resources.

@jcmilasch Good luck! Arch is as good as your skill with Linux. As long as you have that spark and the will to learn, this distro is for you.

Pacman is extremely fast compared to apt-get or aptitude.

Yes, it is. (Says me, a lowly Ubuntuer, although I am quite interested in Arch)

Try it. It's fantastic.

IMO package install is just as easy as in every other distro.
havisburger 3 years ago
But is it as fast ? I've never seen a package manager as speedy as Pacman in Arch!
