@l3mm1w1nk5 C-stick. It allows for directional input while doing an aerial. Such as moving backwards while using Marth's forward air. Although there are some pros who don't use it (Isai), most do.
i'd never try to play smash bros "professionally" Lol.. i would be annoying at how many things i'd have to learn. muscle memory must be intense. fuck this im going back to tetris
@hockeyfan145 Why the Hell are you here if its so shitty and kiddy? and if it is "for kids" you will qualify to play it because youre nothing but a immature asshole who thinks his opinion matters the most. Get the Fuck outta here!
@anaalvocht@hockeyfan145@hoordeyah You guys are all idiots. Every game ever created requires skill. Fighting games require more since it puts you against other people's abilities. Anaal, you're an idiot for thinking you can get away with button mashing to win games like Tekken. Go to an event with these games and see how far mashing takes you. Hockey and Hoorde, you are idiots for thinking there's no skill in melee, go to an event with Melee and see how easy it is compared to other fighters.
@TrainerBW First Person Shooters, Third Person Shooters, Strategy, Racing, Sports and even PoKéMoN... Yeah, only Fighters can be played against people... Competetively.
These guys are idiots, but Fighting games are far from the only genre that allow you to compete against others. As an example, I'm sure Pong is older than StreetFighter and that Starcraft2 is a game.
@Threadnaught I never actually said fighting games are the only games that let you compete against people competitively. This was an argument about fighting games so I only talked about fighting games.
I play Team Fortress 2 semi-competitively and I have high respect for SC players and MOBA games because damn that shit is hard.
@Aflay1 SC stands for StarCraft and MOBA stands for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. Examples of MOBAs are DotA, League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth.
Can we all just agree that all fighters including Melee take a LOT of skill. And besides, whether one is more technical or the other is entirely dependent on what character you use. For example, I main marth in SSBM who is not a technical character at all. His wavedash is super easy to master, his combos don't take much execution as someone like fox/falco. He is more about spacing and footsies. I honestly have more execution problems with Akuma in SSFIV (who also isn't very execution heavy.)
this makes it seem just like other fighting games lol. the hardest part of all of this is the according control required to have with your character, not how fast youre pressing buttons. i dont approve of this video.
A lot of smash's depth comes from the movement. In SF/Marvel, there's only a tiny amount of space you can move in, so there's naturally only a tiny amount of things you can do that will work, so it pretty much turns into an interactive puzzle game. Smash, on the other hand, takes a lot more reaction time and fast fingers.
I would say Melee is harder than any other fighter, simply because nothing is preset and you have to use judgment. Like SF/Marvel and stuff you can press a bunch of preset buttons at the right time and then get combos, etc. Smash isn't so simple because you have to make up your own combos, IE press more than 2-3 buttons at the right time.
@hockeyfan145 Lol your a real idiot aren't you? I hope you don't mean street fighter or tekken with "actual fighting games". Those are just pure button bashing.
@anaalvocht Yep you're retarded. FYI, you can "button mash" in any game, Sherlock. If you mean that button mashing can get you far in SF and Tekken, you obviously haven't played them or just sucked at them. I suggest playing them to a more sophisticated degree instead of wasting your time on this meaningless party game
@hockeyfan145 Well that just proves that your the idiot here, cause I did play those games, and the first time I played tekken versus some guys that play it for over 3 years already. I ownd them because of my random button spam. I can assure you that if you just randomly do something in melee, you will lose. Apart from that, you lost the discussion. Aka, retard.
@anaalvocht Obviously those guys you played sucked. Are you actually that stupid enough to believe experience=skill? Ever heard of something called natural talent? And do you even know what aka means? Lol
lol, grats on playing shitty players. You can indeed get away with so many bad descisions in Melee and walk away free. I see it all the time in "pro" Melee matches. The margin for error is unbelievably large in Melee compared to a game like ST. No wonder Melee players can't react in tight situations, they're too busy trying to do some waveshine shit, rofl.
@ruhtraeel Please keep playing your kiddie game Melee and stay away from real fighters like SF, Tekken, Guilty Gear and MvC2/3. We don't need more scrubs in those games.
@ruhtraeel Nice job implying SF, Tekken, etc. are fighting games. But I didn't expect a 12-year old Melee player to say something intelligent. And I don't have to move my hands that quick in order to play a party game properly.
SF, Tekken = meant to be linear fighting games. Smash = meant to be a party game, but people have taken it to a level beyond any other fighting game out there.
You can move slower if you want to play it like a party game, just like I can button mash if I want to play SF like a party game. If you want to play it on our level, you better ditch everything you learn from a standard fighter.

Most Melee players are older/more mature than Mvc/Tekken/SF players, because Melee has been out for so long without any truly new competitive sequels.

You think a game that's been out for 10 years will have 12 year old playing at a competitive level? The average age group for Melee I can guarantee you is older than SF or MvC or Tekken, because there have been no true sequels for it.

So all in all, if you want to play Smash like a party game like how the developers wanted you to play it, sure. If you want to take it to a level beyond all else like the competitive scene has, then that's a different story.
I don't know why you would decide to try and start something on a Melee video; you are just going to get hated out of it (hence the likes vs dislikes)
Go show love for your games, instead of showing hate for ours. Troll.
@hockeyfan145 You really are a bad troll. I recall about month a ago I found you spreading your garbage on another Melee video. I gave you objective facts about Melee and proceeded to ask you why Melee is less of a fighting game than Tekken or Street Fighter. I'm still waiting for my answer boy.
I know why you didn't answer because my facts could not be denied. You're just incredibly biased and ignorant. Quit spouting your nonsense and give it a rest.
@DayLaMike I'm afraid what I said wasn't nonsense. It was fact and the majority of the Fighting Game Community would have to agree with me. Whether you decide if you want to accept or deny the facts is your problem not mine. You didn't give any argument for me to respond to. Not any valid ones at least. Get off the internet and go do your homework, child. You like Melee, Pokemon and who knows what other childish crap. Your opinion doesn't really matter much if you're only 12.
@hockeyfan145 Once again you are proving how ignorant you are. You asked me to show you why you were wrong. I did so in vivid detail and left a question which merits a response (which you still didn't answer by the way). Awfully convenient for my argument to not be valid when I said things that were 100% true. But of course you're just going to take the easy way out and try to insult me by calling me 12. FYI last time I checked Melee and Pokemon were rated E for everyone. Ignorant.
@DayLaMike Nothing you said was true. Which was why I didn't post a response. Post a valid, logical argument based on facts instead of nonsense and then I'll response. Calling someone 12 isn't an insult. By calling it an insult, YOU are the one implying 12 year olds are idiots. And I like how you keep repeating the word 'ignorant'. Unfortunately, just because you type it many times doesn't mean it will come true
@hockeyfan145 Oh really now. I'm implying calling someone a 12 year old is an insult. But correct me if I'm wrong but you were the very one who said my opinion doesn't matter if I'm 12. You and I both know that the younger internet users have a terrible stigma that follows them around. Please note how I said "try to insult" because I don't consider being 12 a bad thing at all. I just found it to be a bad attempt at trying to ruffle my feathers. Lastly age is irrelevant to the topic at hand.
@hockeyfan145 So I'll ask you one more time. What makes Melee any less of a fighting game than Tekken or Street fighter? No dodging the question, no "because the fighting game community thinks so" and none of those weak insults of yours. Give me a straight answer or don't bother replying.
@DayLaMike "Because the fighting game community thinks so" is perfectly valid. You're just too stupid to realize it. You know it means something when most people share the same opinion like me. And these people are pros themselves at fighting games so it's not like they don't have any knowledge at it. Try again, please. Or, for the sake of looking like less of an idiot, don't.
@hockeyfan145 Here's my argument from a month ago. "You claim that Melee takes no skill which is incorrect. Melee has much depth in the Tech skill department. I.E wave dashing, L-canceling, SHFFLing, jump cancel, crotch cancel etc etc. Learning how to implement these takes practice and do you know what you gain from practice? *gasp* Skill. On top of gaining the muscle memory required for tech skill there's mind games, execution and reading your opponent. This has no skill requirement?"
@hockeyfan145 You have yet to tell me why none of this is valid and why anything I said is false. You also have dodged my question as to why Melee is less of a fighter than Tekken or Street Fighter? Not to mention tried more insults at every turn. I've given a good argument I want answers now. How much longer you going to make me wait?
@DayLaMike If you were too stupid to realize that your "facts" are biased, illogical opinions then there's no point arguing with you since your bias will continue to make you ignorant no matter how many facts I respond with. Also, I find it hilarious and yet sad that with every time you respond, you grow more and more hostile. You must be terribly insecure. I feel sorry for you.
@hockeyfan145 I had a good laugh at this. All you've managed to do so far is tell me this is invalid, you're stupid, you're illogical etc etc. However you have yet to give me specific counterarguments or tell me why anything in my argument was untrue. Don't just say it's invalid explain your case. The fact that you're saying I'm getting hostile when you're the one name calling is Funny. You're still dodging my question so please answer it, I'll be waiting. :]
@DayLaMike I've already explained my case in my posts below. Whether or not you have the brain capacity to realize that is your problem not mine. Name calling? 'Bitch' or 'Faggot' would be name calling. Stupid actually has an (unfortunate) meaning behind it. One example of it refers to the non-ability to differentiate between true fact and baseless opinion. And you had a good laugh at YouTube responses? Poor you. Your life must be truly boring. All the more reason I feel sorry for you
@hockeyfan145 Since you have such a hard time staying on topic, here. You believe that Melee is merely a party game which is false. Mario Party, Sonic Shuffle, Crash Bash, Fusion Frenzy etc. are party games. When you play Melee what are the characters doing? Are they engaging in a random assortment of mini games? No. They are fighting just as the characters in Street Fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur etc. would. You have a misinformed view of Melee.
@hockeyfan145 Next Melee has Depth just as much or more so than other fighters. L-cancel, SHFFL, Crotch Cancel, Jump Cancel, Wavedashing, Wavelanding, DI etc. Not to mention Melee's meta game is always changing and new things get discovered. You can see the changes just by watching footage from different years. You say Melee takes no skill which is false. Implementing all the aforementioned techniques efficiently takes skill. This video is a great example of how technical Melee is.
@hockeyfan145 No random begginer is going to be able to do all this as soon as they start playing. However Tech skill is only part of a battle. Learning match ups between different characters (just like other fighters), reading your opponent to anticipate attacks (just like other fighters) and learning how to play a psychological game with your opponent(just like other fighters). For something you say Melee isn't it sure does have a lot of similaties with other fighters.
@hockeyfan145 Not counting Melee or Smash Bros in general as a fighter is ignorant. It's cool you like Street Fighter and Tekken so do I but just because Melee is different doesn't make it any less of a fighter.
@hockeyfan145 "It was fact and the majority of the Fighting Game Community would have to agree with me" could you point out or name the people who agree with you? Last I checked players who matter in fighting games (daigo, justin wong, tokido, gootecks etc) all recognise smash as a deep and very technical (more so then sf4 and marvel according to justin) fighting game and praise the smash fighting community for doing so well with so little sponsorship.
@Sykewanwan First of all, I like how you make up the story about all those players saying those praises. Just goes to show how desperate you Melee players are for admiration. If you really wanted to prove to me that they mentioned those things about Melee, show me the link to the articles. Second of all, those few players hardly count as the majority of the FGC. Besides, they aren't gods. They make mistakes such as when J. Wong first said that MvC3 was for noobs. Now he has recanted-
@hockeyfan145 Even to this day Justin Wong is disappointed that smash isn't a part of evo or shadowloo showdown purely because its not recognised for the brilliant fighting game it is.
@hockeyfan145 Ahhhh, hypocrisy. Yep, that little ``inb4`` last flame war? About the grammar? I remembered it. Here you are using it as a `you`re stupid so stfu lololololol``. Although, I concur with you that he was definitely playing crappy players if he won with button mashing in Tekken. It just doesn`t fucking work if the guy has skill.
@anaalvocht Dude, he's right. You think that since you fought and beat a few noobs via button mashing, Tekken is noob-friendly? Lol I wonder how you make it through life being so stupid
@Whatever71046 Lol talk about owning him. You shouldn't be too harsh on him though. He probably cries himself to sleep everynight thinking about why he doesn't have at least at triple-digit IQ
@hockeyfan145 You obviously can't watch a video. It was right above where you commented. Doing what the video shows you, takes skill. It's 35 combinations in addition to exact timing to hit the opponent and kill him, completed in 8 seconds. Pretending Melee doesn't require skill and not calling it a real fighting game... I can't believe this.
@hockeyfan145 Because SSBM requires skills, without saying it's more technical than fighting games, it certainly take skills to play at higher level. As for fighting games... the only fighting games I've played got boring fast since all you need to do is practice for a while so you're fingers get used to it. Then it gets repetitive, but that's just me, you may like fighting games better.
Arguing over how "hard" a game is or how much "skill" it takes is fucking retarded. Anyone with half a brain understands that ANY and EVERY competitive player of ANY and EVERY competitive game has mastered its various techs to whatever level possible and, in the end, the amount of tech skill and crap involved doesn't matter 1/10 as much as the psychology of the game. Patience, spacing, etc. Knowing when to wait and when to rush. Same in EVERY SINGLE GAME. The entire argument is seriously stupid
One more thing, this game is absolutely one of the best games ever made, but it's not a fucking fighting game, so shut the fuck up, and go buy Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, it has the most playable online mode aside from blazblue, but blazblue is also shit, so don't play it.
@Aarownd I've played SFIV: AE and I must say, it's really shit compared to other fighting games. How can you say it as depth? Your mobility is excruciatingly limited, a lot of your combos and whatnot are still muscle memory. So I'm not sure what you are trying to get at there. Fighting games are meant to have combos, and once a combo is discovered, the game makers don't erase it. That shit stays. Your analogy with Mario Kart is sad as well, and I'll tell you why because I used to...
@Aarownd play MKDS competitively. Any other mario kart game is pretty standard, and is probably a party game. MKDS, the original one for the DS, had a technique known as snaking. And a glitch known as PRBing. If you want to see why your example is so flawed, look at the stuff these people do on the game with that. Need for Speed, Shift, Blur, none of them have anything even remotely similar to what that small overlook by Nintendo brought to the game.
@Aarownd Melee has speed, more speed than any SF game as far as I am concerned. The combos are hardly muscle memory, yes they are predictable but you must always approach them with caution. And as I said, go to a tournament and compete with the best. You'll realize just how out of your league you really are. It's nothing like SF, thus it can not be compared to SF. Most of the combos you see on this game in particular can be avoided. Don't believe me?
@Aarownd Check out some of the older Melee fights with Ken and Isai. Then look at the newer fights. All of those older combos, mind games and the such? The things that made the best of the best, the BEST of the MLG world? Completely obsolete. Total shit. The game keeps evolving. Their tactics would put them at mediocre at best, if they played the way they used to. When I watch SF fights, I don't see much evolution. The biggest change that I ever see is how a person chooses to spam Ryu..
@Aarownd Sagat or Akuma. The game is good. But I wouldn't classify it as the be-all end-all fighting games. Just because Melee is a little different than SF, doesn't give you any right to pass a mild judgment on the game when you have not ever played it with the big boys.
Also, yeah, this game is all execution, and that proves to most fight games players, that it's not a good fighting game. That's why most people consider MvC3 a joke, it's all just learning a single thing, and getting it down to where it's muscle memory.
But Street fighter and guilty gear are probably the only fighting games deep enough to warrant any kind of professional play, any other game is just execution with no thought involved in anything.
I challenge every Melee fag to master MSP. This pussy techskill shit doesn't even come close to the execution required to play a real fighting game like Marvel 2.
@hoordeyah . . . So youre countering 7-8 seconds of tech with a challenge to learn an entire team of three characters??
Just getting that straight. . .
I dont see how you guys cant acknowledge that there is a large amount of execution required to play this game, too. . .with all of the competitive elements it has to offer. . .
It's just a different set of elements in this fighter than in the conventional fighter. . .
I'd wager that you've never played it seriously. It doesn't matter anyways. There are plenty of other fighters that take way more execution and skill than this pile of horrendous shit. I guarantee that one Melee player that isn't full of shit that actually plays a game like Marvel 2 will tell you that Melee is childs play compared to it.
lol, I honestly don't care, but it is hilarious to see idiots insisting that Melee is technical. I honestly believe that all melee players are all too obsessed with tech skill to even care about general skill in fighters. They probably feel like they're the best ever if they do wavedashes and all of that shit, rofl. That being said, all people that play Melee would never last in a real fighting game.
@hoordeyah if this was no fighting game why did it last for 11 years (12-02-2001)? Your a hater obviously. Im happy you put all melee players in some noob pool saying we think we are the best because we can wavedash. An obvious stereotype that has no real point to it. I dont know if you ever played smash, but whoever you played must have been as scrubby as the way you think.
@hoordeyah Please describe Fighting games, cuz my friends refer to Soul Calibur and Tekken as fighting games and honestly, even tho those games are lot of fun, it's doesn't take much skills, it's more about practice, just so you get used to the game and develop finger memory ( well just like every games I guess). SSBM is in fact technical, without saying it is more than any other game.
@hoordeyah "[...]... all melee players are all too obsessed with tech skill to even care about general skill in fighters." That can't be further from the truth. Melee players have always preached the importance of spacing and mindgames (aka footsies) over technical skill. Still, having good technical skill (execution) will only help you. The way you compared wavedashing is like saying "they probably feel like they're the best ever if they do FADCs". You look like an idiot.
@hoordeyah Then why don't you show us videos of you doing it? Go on, master of all fighting games, if this is so easy, please learn this shit before the next tourney. Go to said tourney, and beat people like Mango, Dr. PeePee, M2K, JMan KirbyKaze. You won't. I guarantee it.
@ZeroMelfice Your point doesn't make this a fighting game, anyone can be good at any game, breaking the game down doesn't make it a competitive fighting game, if I learned Mario kart in and out, every possible turn, that doesn't mean that's a competitive racing game, just because you can be technical, doesn't prove anything about if the game is competitive.
Smash bros. is a party game, it is in the fighting genre, but in a technical sense, smash is a party game, like Mario kart, or guitar hero.
Ive been wanting to make one of these breakdown videos in response to people claiming melee lacks technicality of other fighters, but you did it for me. thanks
And still about a third the thought that quake requires, and that only has one attack button!
It's all real impressive when you put the inputs in, but the fact is that once you've done something like this non stop it becomes a process of going through the motions.
Ya it was fast to bad its over AND THANK GOODNESS!!! Melee was the biggest flawed piece of crap out of all them it was fun but way to many glitches to exploit made it to rediculous now everyone pisses and moans over the fact they cant wave dash and all that garbage get over it......
@yiboparty Actually im not bad im quite good ive been good at all the smash bros. and no im not talking about playing my friends or the lvl 9 computers i played in alot of local tourneys around my area and ive placed in the top 3 frequently
Sounds like you just got the pants owned off of you in Melee, the game referred to by Masahiro Sakurai as the most technically deep and difficult of all three SB games by far, and are bitter. Melee was in no way a flawed piece of crap.
@LargeTurn1p Not really im actually damn good at melee, but its seriously flawed and the reason behind this is the simple fact that sakurai tried way to hard to make a hardcore smash bros. which for the most part he did HOWEVER the game suffered horrible balancing issues which made it like pretty much every other fighting game on the market were you have 5 characters worth picking and all the others are ehh. Perhaps saying piece of crap was kinda over exaggerating Melee was great but to glitchy
@LargeTurn1p Its cool dude your just defending a game you like i too like Melee the entire smash series is my favorite game series i just hope when sakurai does the new one on wii u its got the speed of smash with some good balancing so that way its all around AMAZING
"sakurai tried way to hard to make a hardcore smash bros." "Melee was great but to glitchy"
Could you elaborate please? The way I see it, glitches are mishaps in programming, so to intentionally have them seems contradictory.
As for balancing issues that's true to an extent. But there's still highly skilled low tier players like Axe and Taj who place well in nation-wide tournies. Having 5 worthwhile picks is inevitable for any game where characters have any relative differences.
@EvanFingerstyle Well first off you took two different quotes form two different replies they were meant to be taken hand in hand. As for your definition of glitches then yes look no further than melee do you think sakurai meant to have infinite chain grabs, wave dashing, wallteching, triangle jumping ect. in the game no those are flaws in the programming that are exploited and called techniques we just view them as techniques now and not glitches
I took them from the same reply, go back and read it.
Ok, I'm starting to believe you no longer know what you're talking about. Infinite chain grab is no glitch, it's players exploiting hitstun and low knockback. Programmers made no mistakes in setting up those values. Wallteching is no glitch, you can probably find it in the god dang manual. In AR, wavedashing's intentional; it has an actual code (found during programming and left in; go ask SuperDoodleMan). WTF is triangle jumping?
@EvanFingerstyle Do me a favor when you reply to a comment hit the reply button cause i was unaware this comment even existed, Congratulations so you backed up wave dashing is a glitch it was just left in there by the programmers HUZZAH! Don't know what triangle jumping is eh well look it up Mr.Melee. Besides is it completley necessary that i have to be in like a friggin week long debate with you here what i said was my opinion and you have to sit here and argue with me about it for days
@TheMightyJoe1987 I hit the reply button but I took off the @ to make sure I could meet the character limit.
Wavedashing was an accident at first but them leaving it in there and giving it it's own code is 100% intentional and means it was meant to be in the game; therefore not a glitch.
You are of course entitled to your own opinion, as I am to mine. That's exactly why I've been voicing it these past few days. There is no right or wrong in this, though I stand by what I've said.
@EvanFingerstyle I mean really dont you have anything better to do than to sit here and try to debate with me about this......I mean really im all for discussions but jeez. I LIKE SUPER SMASH!!! I love all of the games ive played all the games since release i think they all have they're positives and negatives you could argue with me till dooms day its not gonna change my opinion i stand firm in it.
@TheMightyJoe1987 I think you've misunderstood me. I never said you hated either of the Smash games. I simply disagree with your initial claim that the game is unbalanced and that there are only 5 characters viable for competitive play. I have plenty to do, though typing these comments out really don't take much time at all.
@EvanFingerstyle OK! Well most likely we will just keep arguing about this since our views are polar opposite and yes i do see you voicing your opinion. The only thing i could do is say but no the game isnt balanced because of and then youd come back so to end this thing i will rest on the fact that we are unshakable in our opinions of a game we both enjoy. How bout that huh sound cool? Who is your main in Smash anyway?
I can do that on a good day xD

UnwillingOrigins 3 weeks ago
this makes it seem just like other fighting games lol. the hardest part of all of this is the according control required to have with your character, not how fast youre pressing buttons. i dont approve of this video.

A lot of smash's depth comes from the movement. In SF/Marvel, there's only a tiny amount of space you can move in, so there's naturally only a tiny amount of things you can do that will work, so it pretty much turns into an interactive puzzle game. Smash, on the other hand, takes a lot more reaction time and fast fingers.
ruhtraeel 3 weeks ago
I would say Melee is harder than any other fighter, simply because nothing is preset and you have to use judgment. Like SF/Marvel and stuff you can press a bunch of preset buttons at the right time and then get combos, etc. Smash isn't so simple because you have to make up your own combos, IE press more than 2-3 buttons at the right time.

anaalvocht 1 month ago
@anaalvocht Yep you're retarded. FYI, you can "button mash" in any game, Sherlock. If you mean that button mashing can get you far in SF and Tekken, you obviously haven't played them or just sucked at them. I suggest playing them to a more sophisticated degree instead of wasting your time on this meaningless party game
hockeyfan145 1 month ago
@hockeyfan145 Well that just proves that your the idiot here, cause I did play those games, and the first time I played tekken versus some guys that play it for over 3 years already. I ownd them because of my random button spam. I can assure you that if you just randomly do something in melee, you will lose. Apart from that, you lost the discussion. Aka, retard.

@anaalvocht Obviously those guys you played sucked. Are you actually that stupid enough to believe experience=skill? Ever heard of something called natural talent? And do you even know what aka means? Lol

@anaalvocht
lol, grats on playing shitty players.

DayLaMike 2 weeks ago
@DayLaMike I'm afraid what I said wasn't nonsense. It was fact and the majority of the Fighting Game Community would have to agree with me. Whether you decide if you want to accept or deny the facts is your problem not mine. You didn't give any argument for me to respond to. Not any valid ones at least. Get off the internet and go do your homework, child. You like Melee, Pokemon and who knows what other childish crap. Your opinion doesn't really matter much if you're only 12.
hockeyfan145 2 weeks ago
@hockeyfan145 Once again you are proving how ignorant you are. You asked me to show you why you were wrong. I did so in vivid detail and left a question which merits a response (which you still didn't answer by the way). Awfully convenient for my argument to not be valid when I said things that were 100% true. But of course you're just going to take the easy way out and try to insult me by calling me 12. FYI last time I checked Melee and Pokemon were rated E for everyone. Ignorant.
DayLaMike 2 weeks ago
@DayLaMike Nothing you said was true. Which was why I didn't post a response. Post a valid, logical argument based on facts instead of nonsense and then I'll response. Calling someone 12 isn't an insult. By calling it an insult, YOU are the one implying 12 year olds are idiots. And I like how you keep repeating the word 'ignorant'. Unfortunately, just because you type it many times doesn't mean it will come true
hockeyfan145 2 weeks ago
@hockeyfan145 Oh really now. I'm implying calling someone a 12 year old is an insult. But correct me if I'm wrong but you were the very one who said my opinion doesn't matter if I'm 12. You and I both know that the younger internet users have a terrible stigma that follows them around. Please note how I said "try to insult" because I don't consider being 12 a bad thing at all. I just found it to be a bad attempt at trying to ruffle my feathers. Lastly age is irrelevant to the topic at hand.
DayLaMike 2 weeks ago
@hockeyfan145 So I'll ask you one more time. What makes Melee any less of a fighting game than Tekken or Street fighter? No dodging the question, no "because the fighting game community thinks so" and none of those weak insults of yours. Give me a straight answer or don't bother replying.
DayLaMike 2 weeks ago

DayLaMike 2 weeks ago
@hockeyfan145 You have yet to tell me why none of this is valid and why anything I said is false. You also have dodged my question as to why Melee is less of a fighter than Tekken or Street Fighter? Not to mention tried more insults at every turn. I've given a good argument I want answers now. How much longer you going to make me wait?
DayLaMike 2 weeks ago
@DayLaMike If you were too stupid to realize that your "facts" are biased, illogical opinions then there's no point arguing with you since your bias will continue to make you ignorant no matter how many facts I respond with. Also, I find it hilarious and yet sad that with every time you respond, you grow more and more hostile. You must be terribly insecure. I feel sorry for you.
hockeyfan145 2 weeks ago
@hockeyfan145 I had a good laugh at this. All you've managed to do so far is tell me this is invalid, you're stupid, you're illogical etc etc. However you have yet to give me specific counterarguments or tell me why anything in my argument was untrue. Don't just say it's invalid explain your case. The fact that you're saying I'm getting hostile when you're the one name calling is Funny. You're still dodging my question so please answer it, I'll be waiting. :]
DayLaMike 2 weeks ago
@DayLaMike I've already explained my case in my posts below. Whether or not you have the brain capacity to realize that is your problem not mine. Name calling? 'Bitch' or 'Faggot' would be name calling. Stupid actually has an (unfortunate) meaning behind it. One example of it refers to the non-ability to differentiate between true fact and baseless opinion. And you had a good laugh at YouTube responses? Poor you. Your life must be truly boring. All the more reason I feel sorry for you
hockeyfan145 2 weeks ago
@hockeyfan145 Since you have such a hard time staying on topic, here. You believe that Melee is merely a party game which is false. Mario Party, Sonic Shuffle, Crash Bash, Fusion Frenzy etc. are party games. When you play Melee what are the characters doing? Are they engaging in a random assortment of mini games? No. They are fighting just as the characters in Street Fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur etc. would. You have a misinformed view of Melee.
DayLaMike 2 weeks ago
@hockeyfan145 Next Melee has Depth just as much or more so than other fighters. L-cancel, SHFFL, Crotch Cancel, Jump Cancel, Wavedashing, Wavelanding, DI etc. Not to mention Melee's meta game is always changing and new things get discovered. You can see the changes just by watching footage from different years. You say Melee takes no skill which is false. Implementing all the aforementioned techniques efficiently takes skill. This video is a great example of how technical Melee is.
DayLaMike 2 weeks ago
@hockeyfan145 No random begginer is going to be able to do all this as soon as they start playing. However Tech skill is only part of a battle. Learning match ups between different characters (just like other fighters), reading your opponent to anticipate attacks (just like other fighters) and learning how to play a psychological game with your opponent(just like other fighters). For something you say Melee isn't it sure does have a lot of similaties with other fighters.
DayLaMike 2 weeks ago
@hockeyfan145 Not counting Melee or Smash Bros in general as a fighter is ignorant. It's cool you like Street Fighter and Tekken so do I but just because Melee is different doesn't make it any less of a fighter.
DayLaMike 2 weeks ago
@hockeyfan145 "It was fact and the majority of the Fighting Game Community would have to agree with me" could you point out or name the people who agree with you? Last I checked players who matter in fighting games (daigo, justin wong, tokido, gootecks etc) all recognise smash as a deep and very technical (more so then sf4 and marvel according to justin) fighting game and praise the smash fighting community for doing so well with so little sponsorship.
Sykewanwan 2 weeks ago
@Sykewanwan First of all, I like how you make up the story about all those players saying those praises. Just goes to show how desperate you Melee players are for admiration. If you really wanted to prove to me that they mentioned those things about Melee, show me the link to the articles. Second of all, those few players hardly count as the majority of the FGC. Besides, they aren't gods. They make mistakes such as when J. Wong first said that MvC3 was for noobs. Now he has recanted-

DudeGuyPerson64 1 month ago
@hockeyfan145 Because SSBM requires skills, without saying it's more technical than fighting games, it certainly take skills to play at higher level. As for fighting games... the only fighting games I've played got boring fast since all you need to do is practice for a while so you're fingers get used to it. One more thing, this game is absolutely one of the best games ever made, but it's not a fucking fighting game, so shut the fuck up, and go buy Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, it has the most playable online mode aside from blazblue, but blazblue is also shit, so don't play it.
Aarownd 1 month ago
@Aarownd I've played SFIV: AE and I must say, it's really shit compared to other fighting games. How can you say it as depth? Your mobility is excruciatingly limited, a lot of your combos and whatnot are still muscle memory. So I'm not sure what you are trying to get at there. Fighting games are meant to have combos, and once a combo is discovered, the game makers don't erase it. That shit stays. Your analogy with Mario Kart is sad as well, and I'll tell you why because I used to...
ZeroMelfice 1 month ago
@Aarownd play MKDS competitively. Any other mario kart game is pretty standard, and is probably a party game. MKDS, the original one for the DS, had a technique known as snaking. And a glitch known as PRBing. If you want to see why your example is so flawed, look at the stuff these people do on the game with that. Need for Speed, Shift, Blur, none of them have anything even remotely similar to what that small overlook by Nintendo brought to the game.
ZeroMelfice 1 month ago
@Aarownd Melee has speed, more speed than any SF game as far as I am concerned. The combos are hardly muscle memory, yes they are predictable but you must always approach them with caution. And as I said, go to a tournament and compete with the best. You'll realize just how out of your league you really are. It's nothing like SF, thus it can not be compared to SF. Most of the combos you see on this game in particular can be avoided. Don't believe me?
ZeroMelfice 1 month ago
@Aarownd Check out some of the older Melee fights with Ken and Isai. Then look at the newer fights. All of those older combos, mind games and the such? The things that made the best of the best, the BEST of the MLG world? Completely obsolete. Total shit. The game keeps evolving. Their tactics would put them at mediocre at best, if they played the way they used to. When I watch SF fights, I don't see much evolution. The biggest change that I ever see is how a person chooses to spam Ryu..
ZeroMelfice 1 month ago

I dont know if you ever played smash, but whoever you played must have been as scrubby as the way you think.
itiscope 1 month ago
@hoordeyah Please describe Fighting games, cuz my friends refer to Soul Calibur and Tekken as fighting games and honestly, even tho those games are lot of fun, it's doesn't take much skills, it's more about practice, just so you get used to the game and develop finger memory ( well just like every games I guess). SSBM is in fact technical, without saying it is more than any other game.
AmilGaoul27 1 month ago
@hoordeyah "[...]... all melee players are all too obsessed with tech skill to even care about general skill in fighters." That can't be further from the truth. Melee players have always preached the importance of spacing and mindgames (aka footsies) over technical skill. Still, having good technical skill (execution) will only help you. The way you compared wavedashing is like saying "they probably feel like they're the best ever if they do FADCs". You look like an idiot.

ZeroMelfice 1 month ago
@ZeroMelfice Your point doesn't make this a fighting game, anyone can be good at any game, breaking the game down doesn't make it a competitive fighting game, if I learned Mario kart in and out, every possible turn, that doesn't mean that's a competitive racing game, just because you can be technical, doesn't prove anything about if the game is competitive.
Smash bros. is a party game, it is in the fighting genre, but in a technical sense, smash is a party game, like Mario kart, or guitar hero.

TheMightyJoe1987 2 months ago
@TheMightyJoe1987 Sometimes a mistake leads to something amazing. Like being able to wavedash.
Btw, I take it you can't wavedash.
MrIronNeo 2 months ago
@MrIronNeo Yes i can wavedash actually
TheMightyJoe1987 2 months ago
@TheMightyJoe1987 I'm guessing you don't play competitive and/or are trolling
SmashSpencer 2 months ago
@SmashSpencer Yes i did used to play competitivly and no im not trolling im giving my opinion which im certainly allowed to do
TheMightyJoe1987 2 months ago
@TheMightyJoe1987 Not sure if you're just... Nope. You're just bad.
yiboparty 2 months ago
@yiboparty Actually im not bad im quite good ive been good at all the smash bros. and no im not talking about playing my friends or the lvl 9 computers i played in alot of local tourneys around my area and ive placed in the top 3 frequently
TheMightyJoe1987 2 months ago
@TheMightyJoe1987
Sounds like you just got the pants owned off of you in Melee, the game referred to by Masahiro Sakurai as the most technically deep and difficult of all three SB games by far, and are bitter. Melee was in no way a flawed piece of crap.
LargeTurn1p 2 months ago
@LargeTurn1p Not really im actually damn good at melee, but its seriously flawed and the reason behind this is the simple fact that sakurai tried way to hard to make a hardcore smash bros. which for the most part he did HOWEVER the game suffered horrible balancing issues which made it like pretty much every other fighting game on the market were you have 5 characters worth picking and all the others are ehh. Perhaps saying piece of crap was kinda over exaggerating Melee was great but to glitchy
TheMightyJoe1987 2 months ago
@TheMightyJoe1987
Ok. Sorry for saying you were bad.
LargeTurn1p 2 months ago
@LargeTurn1p Its cool dude your just defending a game you like i too like Melee the entire smash series is my favorite game series i just hope when sakurai does the new one on wii u its got the speed of smash with some good balancing so that way its all around AMAZING
TheMightyJoe1987 2 months ago

TheMightyJoe1987 1 month ago
I took them from the same reply, go back and read it.
Ok, I'm starting to believe you no longer know what you're talking about. Infinite chain grab is no glitch, it's players exploiting hitstun and low knockback. Programmers made no mistakes in setting up those values. Wallteching is no glitch, you can probably find it in the god dang manual. In AR, wavedashing's intentional; it has an actual code (found during programming and left in; go ask SuperDoodleMan). WTF is triangle jumping?
EvanFingerstyle 1 month ago
@EvanFingerstyle Do me a favor when you reply to a comment hit the reply button cause i was unaware this comment even existed, Congratulations so you backed up wave dashing is a glitch it was just left in there by the programmers HUZZAH! Don't know what triangle jumping is eh well look it up Mr.Melee. Besides is it completley necessary that i have to be in like a friggin week long debate with you here what i said was my opinion and you have to sit here and argue with me about it for days
TheMightyJoe1987 1 month ago
@TheMightyJoe1987 I hit the reply button but I took off the @ to make sure I could meet the character limit.
Wavedashing was an accident at first but them leaving it in there and giving it it's own code is 100% intentional and means it was meant to be in the game; therefore not a glitch.
You are of course entitled to your own opinion, as I am to mine. That's exactly why I've been voicing it these past few days. There is no right or wrong in this, though I stand by what I've said.
EvanFingerstyle 1 month ago
@EvanFingerstyle I mean really dont you have anything better to do than to sit here and try to debate with me about this......I mean really im all for discussions but jeez. I LIKE SUPER SMASH!!! I love all of the games ive played all the games since release i think they all have they're positives and negatives you could argue with me till dooms day its not gonna change my opinion i stand firm in it.
TheMightyJoe1987 1 month ago
@TheMightyJoe1987 I think you've misunderstood me. I never said you hated either of the Smash games. I simply disagree with your initial claim that the game is unbalanced and that there are only 5 characters viable for competitive play. I have plenty to do, though typing these comments out really don't take much time at all.
EvanFingerstyle 1 month ago
@EvanFingerstyle OK! Well most likely we will just keep arguing about this since our views are polar opposite and yes i do see you voicing your opinion. The only thing i could do is say but no the game isnt balanced because of and then youd come back so to end this thing i will rest on the fact that we are unshakable in our opinions of a game we both enjoy. How bout that huh sound cool? Who is your main in Smash anyway?
TheMightyJoe1987 1 month ago
@TheMightyJoe1987 Yup, sounds good xD.

If you want a glitch, go look up "Black hole giltch" or "S
