Lovely video, fine narration - and the choice of music was also charming.
I tried to worry the final cost of the re-float out of Google but couldn't get the information. Did those two big tugboats have to come all the way down from Holland?
And who would pay for the re-float? The maritime insurance company?
@VacloveBp This music comes with my video editing package. It is part of a feature that will fit a soundtrack to the video and the main thing is that it is ROYALTY FREE. I don't want to break any copyright laws around here and my own musical abilities are not very evolved...The sad thing is, I have already fixed it and changed the music but I have to load a new version of the video...I am considering that but I dont want to lose my audience as well......
Nice, thankyou sir for an interesting video, you obviously put a lot of time and effort into getting that on tape. Please excuse the comments from some of the Chromosome challenged.
@whorayful Thank you very much for your kind and uplifting words....one thing I can say, you learn a lot about humanity and the different aspects off it when you enter the world of YouTube and Facebook and blogs.....
@thunderbolt13100 It was quite exciting and it drew big crowds at times...On weekends it was impossible to get onto the roads if you live around here...
@nolifemerc interesting concept...the ship was obviously quite heavy and the huge (may have been a PUMA or similar) helicopter that they used around there would not have made a difference....But we had lots and lots of ideas (as the observing crowd) but who ever listens to us...lol....and in the end they did get it off and good for them because otherwise they may have had to explain why they wasted so much taxpayers money...
@Jamjar107 Oh sure, we'll just remove the engine and associated machinery and move it up to the forward compartments; no problem. Has it occured to you that you're an idiot?
Good job on this video! This has got to be the best salvage video on the net. You started with the grounding and progressed to it's conclusion, most videos up loaded only show us the grounding, and then there will be 50 more that show us the same thing and never present what happened in the end. Good job.
@mroldthoughts Thank you so much for this reply..When one makes something like this you wonder if it is really worth all the effort. It takes a lot of time and manytimes it gets comments filled with swearwords. My intention was to document this event and also to make it to some extend a work of beauty by trying to capture the atmosphere. It was indeed an interesting time for our little community and there is a bit of a void here since the ship has gone. Thanks I appreciate it.
@ChristiaanKleynhans1 Nice, fine work, my friend! I dunno why but I did feel about to tears seeing the big butha being rescued into its natural waters....
@TehEpicNumber17 Yes, I don't think it is that easy to scrap such a ship. You need a special facility, you dont want to take up precious space in a dry dock in a harbour. It would need a proper project plan that needs to be executed well to minimise the time and space it requires and you will need to commit special equipment that will cost money to operate as well.
@TehEpicNumber17 .....Is it worth it in the end. It would have been very difficult to scrap it where it lied as well as it is in an upmarket quiet area with no big access roads. Residents would be up in arms if disruptive traffic continued for long periods of time. You may also find that contractors may strip what is easy to do and sell and leave the rest in an unsightfull mess.
@throwerofturds Well...Sinking it (1 provides and artificial reef, so marine life has shelter. (2 Provides an Attraction for Recreational Divers and (3 the ship is still together, instead of ripping it apart and losing it to scrapping...Scrapping makes money for a company..so most cruise liners and cargo ships get scrapped, and scrapping is a bit more dangerous
@TehEpicNumber17 im interested in scrapping ships and have a small one to do . if it gets done at all it will be done probably in canada so it will be a "clean" job . if it ever gets done it will be a big challenge also .
i wonder if they will scrap the costa concordia . . one way or another it will be very well documented here on yt
@throwerofturds The Costa..Will either be Scrapped, mostly because it's a constructive loss and plus when they salvage it, it will be very rusted because it will take months to salvage it, also Not many people would go on a ship that a sunk..even with a name change, people will be hesitant to get on. I mean at it's christining the bottle didn't break, which is a bad omen in maritime lore..but chances are the ship will sink even further before they can fully salvage it.
@TehEpicNumber17 i agree . and if thats the case it will be quite a job . wiki says it weighs 114 k tons . that is a very big salvage . they can anchor it to keep it close and then start hollowing it out and lightening it with snippers on excavaters . . the probability for some kind of disaster is great .
@nexusdawn Yip, was thinking the same thing that time, the reason why I used the subtitle "ashes to ashes"...It rose of where it was stranded and then three days later had to go down again and this time it is unlikely to resurface ever again.
@ChristiaanKleynhans1 Oh cool, yeah I had missed that on my first view. Nice work on the video, and all the background information you made available in text. Thanks for sharing this.
@valiumsummer Thanks! Yes, I suppose the intention of YouTube is interactivity because we cant make our videos too long. Pause it and read it if you need the information or let it flow if you just want to see what happened...I aimed sort of for the optimum here in the middle.
@TomBrooklyn The refloating was successful with two Tugs but originally only one was available and I think they were over-optimistic. No, I didn't hear of any explanation.
@undertakerpitt Yes, a lot of people came to the beach to watch this and some lost interest. The ship moved at that point because the cable snapped and it was being pushed back again by the swell.
@imaghostbuster36 Yeah mate! Wonder where you are from where people talk unsolicited to others like this?.....The music was non copyrighted, that is why. I would love to change it but it is toooooo late mate!
@kasimvideos Well, it was intended to be a capturing of the news and history of the whole process. May help people in the future if they want to do research on this. But if you just want the action, then you are welcome to jump ahead.
@SquirrelFromGradLife Maybe, maybe not...we all had lots of theories on this...they made a lot of mistakes. They tied the cable to the remnant of the ships anchor chain and that snapped first time around. It is also convenient to make certain mistakes because that raises the cost of moving it away...Never underestimate the human being's ability to scheme...
@ChristiaanKleynhans1 They were idiots. Completely un-professional. there is no excuse. YOu never, ever, involve a vessels chain in the tie to tow line; modern braided synthetic lines are many, many, times more reliable. The fucking chain was probaly made in Pakistan.
@marcuskeeler It was not floating, neither before or after the tide and we are talking of Spring Tide which happens once a month. It was stuck solidly on a sheet of rock and the tide basically provide some loft so that it could be sheared of the rocks. It sustained damage in the process and prior and was leaking. The ship was sealed off at the top and air was pumped into the cavities from above.
@ChristiaanKleynhans1 This kept the ship afloat for another three days or so until it was towed to the spot where it would be scuttled. The pumps were then switched off and removed and the ship started it descent into the waters below.
@realvanman1 I suppose there were politics involved. The owners of the ship could not be traced. Imagine it is scrapped and afterwards the owners claim ownership and lay all sorts of charges. It was probably better just to let the problem disappear and never to resurface again. It is in such deep waters now that it wont ever be taken out from there.
@ChristiaanKleynhans1 The owners of the ship could not be traced; Oh really. You idiot. You think there are ships floating around the world/s oceans without registered owners? What a moron. I can determine the owner of this ship in 10minutes.
@aandrave I suppose there were politics involved. The owners of the ship could not be traced. Imagine it is scrapped and afterwards the owners claim ownership and lay all sorts of charges.
