  • de zweep over die paarden , en daar gaat ze!

  • @vrmmarine yip, daar gaat ze!

  • Lovely video, fine narration - and the choice of music was also charming.

I tried to worry the final cost of the re-float out of Google but couldn't get the information. Did those two big tugboats have to come all the way down from Holland?

And who would pay for the re-float? The maritime insurance company?

Interesting experience. Happy ending as well.

  • Powerhouse tugg!!

  • wow!!! the stress on those pulling lines must be HUGE!!!!

nice video: from start to finish!!

  • @enterBJ40 Thank you very much!

  • PULLLL!!!!!!!!!

  • @werdCanada Yes, what a PULLLLL!! it was....and lots of creaking ans shearing!!!

  • Nice video! Why this backroundmusic????

  • @VacloveBp This music comes with my video editing package. It is part of a feature that will fit a soundtrack to the video and the main thing is that it is ROYALTY FREE. I don't want to break any copyright laws around here and my own musical abilities are not very evolved...The sad thing is, I have already fixed it and changed the music but I have to load a new version of the video...I am considering that but I dont want to lose my audience as well......

  • Nice, thankyou sir for an interesting video, you obviously put a lot of time and effort into getting that on tape. Please excuse the comments from some of the Chromosome challenged.

  • @whorayful Thank you very much for your kind and uplifting words....one thing I can say, you learn a lot about humanity and the different aspects off it when you enter the world of YouTube and Facebook and blogs.....

  • Yuroe all a bncuh of fikuncg sirht lfitres and I hpoe yuor froeisnks get hrborliy incfteed.

  • @takalua911 Thank you!

  • they gots some good effort on pulling that boat

  • @thunderbolt13100 It was quite exciting and it drew big crowds at times...On weekends it was impossible to get onto the roads if you live around here...

  • Great video. I only hope the musicians of this horrible background music drifted off to sea as well.

  • @cagabolsa Thank you...No man, shame for the musicians, they also have to make a living...;-)...lol

  • Great video :)

  • @monky1959 Thank you!

  • Person: WOOOOO!!

Its just a fuckin boat -.-

  • @eZwebmaniac Thank you!

  • use a large hue hotair ballon

  • @nolifemerc interesting concept...the ship was obviously quite heavy and the huge (may have been a PUMA or similar) helicopter that they used around there would not have made a difference....But we had lots and lots of ideas (as the observing crowd) but who ever listens to us...lol....and in the end they did get it off and good for them because otherwise they may have had to explain why they wasted so much taxpayers money...

  • it's the Borealis!

  • all that work and money only to be scuttled?!!!!!

  • FONTS!!!! Get some good ones

  • Excellent videography, but agree that the music isn't helpful.

  • The stern seemed to be much lower than the bow! Could the ballast have been moved foward to assist?

  • @Jamjar107 Oh sure, we'll just remove the engine and associated machinery and move it up to the forward compartments; no problem. Has it occured to you that you're an idiot?

  • @PATSICK

Ballast can be in the form of water.

It seems to be a pity that it was scuttled after so much effort.

  • Bloody awful music! Completely unnecessary!

  • Pity the audio is [poor

  • crazy it did not tip over, great work

  • What a powerful tug boat...muscles of the sea....!

  • Good job on this video! This has got to be the best salvage video on the net. You started with the grounding and progressed to it's conclusion, most videos up loaded only show us the grounding, and then there will be 50 more that show us the same thing and never present what happened in the end. Good job.

  • @mroldthoughts Thank you so much for this reply..When one makes something like this you wonder if it is really worth all the effort. It takes a lot of time and manytimes it gets comments filled with swearwords. My intention was to document this event and also to make it to some extend a work of beauty by trying to capture the atmosphere. It was indeed an interesting time for our little community and there is a bit of a void here since the ship has gone. Thanks I appreciate it.

  • el mejor video que vi en mi vida!!!!

  • @alhuo Estas palabras son tan especiales para mí .. Muchas gracias

  • lets take a cool tourist piece, pay thousands of dollars to drag it out in the ocean and sink it... fuckin trolls

  • @BuffaloTPU Yes, what can one say...Would like to be a fly on the wall where some of these decisions were made...

  • @ChristiaanKleynhans1

Prob becuse it was cheeper to sink it there than tow it to Gandin or Alang ! more junk to pollute the sea's !

  • Nice video

  • @Plane60 Thank you!

  • @ChristiaanKleynhans1 Nice, fine work, my friend! I dunno why but I did feel about to tears seeing the big butha being rescued into its natural waters....

    Thanks, whoever you are!

  • At Least they Sank it and Didn't scrap it

  • @TehEpicNumber17 Yes, I don't think it is that easy to scrap such a ship. You need a special facility, you dont want to take up precious space in a dry dock in a harbour. It would need a proper project plan that needs to be executed well to minimise the time and space it requires and you will need to commit special equipment that will cost money to operate as well.

  • @TehEpicNumber17 .....Is it worth it in the end. It would have been very difficult to scrap it where it lied as well as it is in an upmarket quiet area with no big access roads. Residents would be up in arms if disruptive traffic continued for long periods of time. You may also find that contractors may strip what is easy to do and sell and leave the rest in an unsightfull mess.

  • @TehEpicNumber17

i dont know much about ships by why not scrap it compared to sinking it ?

  • @TehEpicNumber17 i dont know much about shipping but why is it better to sink it compared to scrapping it ?

  • @throwerofturds Well...Sinking it (1 provides and artificial reef, so marine life has shelter. (2 Provides an Attraction for Recreational Divers and (3 the ship is still together, instead of ripping it apart and losing it to scrapping...Scrapping makes money for a company..so most cruise liners and cargo ships get scrapped, and scrapping is a bit more dangerous

  • @TehEpicNumber17 im interested in scrapping ships and have a small one to do . if it gets done at all it will be done probably in canada so it will be a "clean" job . if it ever gets done it will be a big challenge also .

i wonder if they will scrap the costa concordia . . one way or another it will be very well documented here on yt

  • @throwerofturds The Costa..Will either be Scrapped, mostly because it's a constructive loss and plus when they salvage it, it will be very rusted because it will take months to salvage it, also Not many people would go on a ship that a sunk..even with a name change, people will be hesitant to get on. I mean at it's christining the bottle didn't break, which is a bad omen in maritime lore..but chances are the ship will sink even further before they can fully salvage it.

  • @TehEpicNumber17 i agree . and if thats the case it will be quite a job . wiki says it weighs 114 k tons . that is a very big salvage . they can anchor it to keep it close and then start hollowing it out and lightening it with snippers on excavaters . . the probability for some kind of disaster is great .

it will be interesting to follow it .

  • Phoenix, fitting name for a tanker that gets a second chance

  • @nexusdawn Yip, was thinking the same thing that time, the reason why I used the subtitle "ashes to ashes"...It rose of where it was stranded and then three days later had to go down again and this time it is unlikely to resurface ever again.

  • @ChristiaanKleynhans1 Oh cool, yeah I had missed that on my first view. Nice work on the video, and all the background information you made available in text. Thanks for sharing this.

  • it's a nice video, but hardly enough time to read the captions, and the audio is too low. Could do without the distracting music... :(

  • @richardsantink Thanks Richard...I take note...wish I could fix that but I will have to remake it.

  • @ChristiaanKleynhans1 I just paused it to read the captions. Don't sweat it.

  • @valiumsummer Thanks! Yes, I suppose the intention of YouTube is interactivity because we cant make our videos too long. Pause it and read it if you need the information or let it flow if you just want to see what happened...I aimed sort of for the optimum here in the middle.

  • @ChristiaanKleynhans1 Great video by the way VERY interesting.

  • Was it ever explained why the refloating attempt was made with only one tug?

  • @TomBrooklyn The refloating was successful with two Tugs but originally only one was available and I think they were over-optimistic. No, I didn't hear of any explanation.

  • This is obviously an old ship, as it has no bulbous bow. Pity they scrapped it, it's a pretty ship

  • @Hannodb1961 It was pretty, I agree..I dont think they had a choice, they had to sink it...

  • it gets unstuck, then sinks 45 seconds later

  • @undertakerpitt Three days later is more accurate...

  • i love the ship is moving and some random guy throwing rocks doesn't even notice

  • @undertakerpitt Yes, a lot of people came to the beach to watch this and some lost interest. The ship moved at that point because the cable snapped and it was being pushed back again by the swell.

  • mate is some fucking reason why u had to put stupid anoying music to this vid???

  • @imaghostbuster36 Yeah mate! Wonder where you are from where people talk unsolicited to others like this?.....The music was non copyrighted, that is why. I would love to change it but it is toooooo late mate!

  • to save some time,, the ship starts to move at 4:26

  • @kasimvideos Well, it was intended to be a capturing of the news and history of the whole process. May help people in the future if they want to do research on this. But if you just want the action, then you are welcome to jump ahead.

  • Well a barge, some massive anchors further out and some massive hydraulic rams pulling chains could have got that ship unstuck the first time

  • @SquirrelFromGradLife Maybe, maybe not...we all had lots of theories on this...they made a lot of mistakes. They tied the cable to the remnant of the ships anchor chain and that snapped first time around. It is also convenient to make certain mistakes because that raises the cost of moving it away...Never underestimate the human being's ability to scheme...

  • @ChristiaanKleynhans1 They were idiots. Completely un-professional. there is no excuse. YOu never, ever, involve a vessels chain in the tie to tow line; modern braided synthetic lines are many, many, times more reliable. The fucking chain was probaly made in Pakistan.

  • há, tudo bem o navio saiu de la com sucesso, mas essa musiquinha "ta loco" não deu pra assistir até o final...

  • @kiko102290 Sim, eu entendo. Eu tive que usar a música livre que não foram direitos autorais ..

  • So, essentially, by "refloating" you mean you waited for the tide to come in and then pulled it off.

  • @marcuskeeler It was not floating, neither before or after the tide and we are talking of Spring Tide which happens once a month. It was stuck solidly on a sheet of rock and the tide basically provide some loft so that it could be sheared of the rocks. It sustained damage in the process and prior and was leaking. The ship was sealed off at the top and air was pumped into the cavities from above.

  • @ChristiaanKleynhans1 This kept the ship afloat for another three days or so until it was towed to the spot where it would be scuttled. The pumps were then switched off and removed and the ship started it descent into the waters below.

  • they are some powerful waves..

  • @trainer105 Indeed!

  • :-) cool video

  • @pokemon3742 Thanks Pokemon

  • 2:00 Balls

  • @GarAkaru Yip!

  • cool video.... :-)

  • brutal music

  • Why scuttled instead of repaired and returned to service?

  • @realvanman1 I suppose there were politics involved. The owners of the ship could not be traced. Imagine it is scrapped and afterwards the owners claim ownership and lay all sorts of charges. It was probably better just to let the problem disappear and never to resurface again. It is in such deep waters now that it wont ever be taken out from there.

  • @ChristiaanKleynhans1 The owners of the ship could not be traced; Oh really. You idiot. You think there are ships floating around the world/s oceans without registered owners? What a moron. I can determine the owner of this ship in 10minutes.

  • Who wants to watch a slide show?!? This is 2012!!!!!

  • @captainmorgan757 hahahaha Captain Morgan, you are funny! lol....What happens in 2012?

  • hm awesome you di t it

  • @kayser79pr Thanks Kayser...Yes, I did. Next time I will try to improve. I am learning as we speak.

  • very interesting video, but for the love of god, why the music choice

  • @jesterjokes117 Its free, that is why..Difficult to find music that has no copyright on it.

  • Thank you for the upload.

  • @SCOOTERBOY40029 Pleasure Scooterboy and thanks for your thanks!

  • good vid kept my interest the hole time good job

  • @grassman8100 Thanks grassman!

  • @grassman8100 You make my day grassman....I should up the edge slightly next time especially because there are appreciative people like you around.

  • why scuttled instead of scrapped?

  • @aandrave I suppose there were politics involved. The owners of the ship could not be traced. Imagine it is scrapped and afterwards the owners claim ownership and lay all sorts of charges. • thanks ! nice !

  • @truckersteven Thank you!

  • ...nice video my friend, real nice to watch...

  • @Motleyiceman1 Thank you!

  • wow.......

  • Had she stayed there, she could have been an amazing turist attraction. Looks amazing even on the video.

  • @filologia14 I would have loved it myself. I imagined a hotel being build in there and you sleep almost on the breaking surf and sea. But too many issues involved I guess and it would be a mission to preserve it. And some residents called it an eyesore..Don't know why though...

  • Why don't they do it when a whale beaches?

  • @MultinationalVideos I want to do one on a whale that beached here in 2010. But I dont have video, only photos.

  • amazing!!

  • @741able thanks!

  • Yet Small TUG boats...with BIGGER TORQUE!!!

  • @pogpogcasino Yip, those machines are very powerful.

  • Comment removed

  • Excellent video, hard to hear the man speak for the loud music.

  • @billalbion wish I could fix that but not possible without reposting a new video.

  • Wonderfully sharp video. Wish the narration was better. Wonder where she is today?

  • @oceantrolls73 wish I could fix that but not possible without reposting a new video.

  • How wonderful to finally hear the voice of a face on FB!! Excellent video but I have to agree.. the music..Chris!!?? LOL... That tugboat gets all the glory!! an amazing vesel..

  • @carpathianism Thank you so much!

  • great footage ,great post

  • @ninja2kernow Thank you very much!

  • "The MT Phoenix operation has cost around R35 million, but the owners of the ship have not been located, meaning the taxpayer may have to foot the bill."

mmmm, mysteriously sank on the way to the scrapyard.....

interesting video, great quality. Those tugs sure have some pull

  • @sweetypie000 Hi thanks Sweetypie, here is a link that shows the actual scuttling.

  • @sweetypie000..sorry, could not post the link but there are pics available on the web of the scuttling. It did actually take place. do a search for "scuttled mt phoenix" and find out for yourself

  • surely the tide is highest at full moon?

  • @Marcomanseckisax ....I am almost convinced I said New Moon..I even re-checked.

  • @ChristiaanKleynhans1 Tide is highest at New Moon!

  • very good video,but music.................

  • Great video.

It's ominous that none of the MT Phoenix videos show the scuttling.

  • @SirGalahadGeek I was not invited to the scuttling. But it did take place, the photos are on the internet.

  • @ChristiaanKleynhans1 Thanks for the reply.

  • What a cool video!

  • @craigsmithx Thank you very much CraigSmith!!

  • The MUSIC !!!!!!!!!

  • @tomtknox Sorry!

  • @ChristiaanKleynhans1 Take this abortion off of you tube; then we'll believe you're sorry.
