im not sure if this will be the wow killer but its gonna come alot closer then RIFT , people who doubt this need to read everything that will be incoporated into the game , not only is it changing how players will assist each other but its trying to make the actual world the players are in responsive to their own choices so unlike wow this means secondary toons could have a total diferent destiny that that of your first one ,i play wow but GW2 is free so you know where ill be
I've been playing both WoW and GW simultaneously for awhile, and while I'm not a big fan of the first GW (although that may just be because I haven't been playing for very long), this looks AMAZING. So excited! I love how they're incorporating the paint strokes/artsy look of the official site into the game itself.
And yes, when it comes out, I'll be playing this AND WoW. Can you imagine?
@Strobeza Well they did say that they took everything people loved about Gw1 and put it in the new game, so I don't see why it wouldn't be possible in Gw2.
@Warlock432 You should take note that Gw1 and Gw2 are entirely different games. Some love it and others don't. And the only things they have in common would be the lack of fees, the continuation of the lore, and the same philosophies as to what made GW great in the first place.

shitty camera view. That's why i will never like this game, just because of the camera viewpoint. You should atleast need to have to choice if you want a free roaming bird eye camera view like world of warcraft. I just fucking HATE these kind of camera positions.
@SynQ86 Take note that this is an old demo video from a time of pre-alpha (I believe) in which players didn't really do much with the angles, and since then things have changed dramatically. The camera isn't an issue and is highly adjustable, especially compared to the original Gw1 games.
@Yallsunda Yes, in Gw2 you have to aim and no enemies or allies can be targetted. Plus there's no autoattack. Everything that's skill-wise is either you target the ground where the enemy or ally is at or with positioning of where you're at with consideration of what you aim to do for those around you.

@lgnzim It will still have a few instanced dungeons, but it will be an open world now like any other MMORPG and yes you will be able to jump and swim... and fight underwater

Ha! I don't think anyone will die to get their hands on GW2, but they wont need to - If your patient then you will appreciate the game so much more than if they brought it out early. I personally am eagerly awaiting a release date and a chance for Open Beta so that I can get involved as soon as possible.

C'mon dude, i've seen the best video of gameplay but trust me, TERA, FFIV, Genesis A.D, Huxley, and the secret world has far more awesome grahpics than GW 2. you should seen the video. If u say about TERA and FFIV, trust me it as far more better dude

I haven't paid much attention to FFIV, but I was personally interested in Tera, and although I'm not one of those who're turned off by anime-style graphics I found their running/casting animations awful. (Shaking/rolling your ass while casting?)
@abdo2299 Well the original guild wars series was all about just buying the game from the store and never having to pay for what you already bought. So for that same reason, the makers of Gw2 (ArenaNet) has officially mentioned that the new game will also be for the one time price at the store then no fees.
Unfortunately, nobody has a clue of when Gw2 will really come out or when we'll be seeing a beta. :P But whenever it does come out, it'll be good.
why the hell did they feel necessary to screw up the damage system. one of the main things i like about gw that i hate about other games is the reasonable damage numbers..
@SlarMilsror the person demonstrating the gameplay is using Dev hacks, they posted it on a blog the day it was released. Dont worry they will be scaled
@SlarMilsror The damage may be greater but won't be random. The damage you deal have very precise numbers depending on level, skill, traits, etc. So it's not like the numbers that pop up are simply completely overpowering for no reason.
And besides that, if you also didn't like the size of the damage when shown, that is customizable.
I have a question regarding the 5 left skills: I know that they contain your weapon skills, but if you wear a lvl 1 sword will it have the same attacks as a lvl 50 sword? Or will they have more epic skills. Because if they have the same skills it will be kind of boring to lvl a lot of lvls without a lot of new skills
@DJlOdion Skills unlocked are not determined by weapon, they are determined by whether you found (unlocked) the skill for the wep. You have to progress in the story or by level for that to happen. So while a wep does determine what skills you would have, it's not the wep that decides whether you're having those skills in the firstplace.
To get the skills, you have to reach the right level requirement, then find the master that you could learn the skill from. It's a nice adventure kinda thing.
ok back to school... there are 11 slots count much? and GW is based on skills you capture and effectivness instead of OP gear. the skills are meant to be worked with in limited numbers as to not make the character over powered its called balance. GW is the only mmo i have seen with a twist on play style instead of the same old crap. Grind badges buy gear and now your awesome>? thanks Arena for your hard work we like it.
@luxitvrdy There are 10 skill slots but that doesn't mean it's only 10 skills. Each class can wield different weapons, and it is the weapon choice that determines the first 5 skills on the left side of the bar. A warrior with axes on both hands would have all 5 skills on left filled with axe skills. A war with one axe on left and warhorn on right would have 3 axe skills and 2 for warhorn. A warrior with bow will have all 5 as bow skills. However the 5 on the right are completely customizable.

@infernaldemon1234 The game on the demos are only being run on default, good sir. :P It was said that the game can run with Directx 10 as well as other options for those that want far more. However as this game was meant to run on a wide variety of mid-range gaming computers, they're trying not to scare off Gw1 fans or others for that matter. I think it may be the bad quality of the video that you're seeing. There are some better ones but they're all filmed by camrea, not with fraps or anything. So the quality is still kinda bad.
Looks awesome. 10 skills at a time? I really like the idea how it can be played through either with a team or solo. It sucked trying to get through GW with the lack of healers available. Many times we had to substitute NPCs (henchies & heroes) for the needed professions. GW2 doesn't need that :)

Hello guys, I'm wondering if any of you could tell me whether or not my rig should run GW2. It's relatively old, but I'm hoping upto the job. I'm not holding out any hopes for maximum settings, just a reasonably reasonable FPS.
Specs: AMD Athlon 4200+, 2gb ram, HD 4670 1gb, ASUS A8N-SLI MOBO.

Side note...search youtube for these videos due to they are some EXTREMELY high caliber demos. Much more than these other typical demos you see of GW2 all over youtube. Developers do a walkthrough with the game mechanics and gameplay.

@MrAnonUK in all honesty i think you would have trouble with the frame rate. 2gig of ram sounds ok but im betting it runs at 400mhz in a rig of this age which is a bit slow also. It might be worth you trying though but you def want to change that GPU. You can pick up a geforce 460 for less than £150. If it doesnt work you will still have the graphics card. I then u could still get a duell core CPU / mobo and 1600mhz ram for about £200 it you shopped about.. Scan is a good site.
@Tuclanifeht Funnily enough since last posting that I've gone out and purchased and new graphics card, I only had £100 spare at the time though so picked up a Geforce 450. Ram is the next upgrade on my list, and then case along with getting rid of the old 939 socket mobo so I can start thinking about a new processor.

As to the whole P2P n B2P arguements...well..don't be suprised if P2P buisness practice gets shaken up a bit. Most B2P/F2P couldn't hold a grain a of salt to P2P MMOs but GW2 will challange that. Turbine did the same thing, they converted from P2P to F2P but with an in-game store that skyrocketed their sales. Now I played DDO n while I didn't feel much for the game the fact remains that they acquired substantial profit by dropping the P2P model...in Asia they follow a non P2P model more.
The fact you can pay the monthly sub fee... Good for you. It doesn't nessisarily mean that the game is quality - Just look at Runescape. Poor gameplay, poor graphics, but I wont deny it has good diversity and a decent, if basic storyline. Yet you pay to access the better features of the game - Doesn't make the game top-end stuff. Saco753, you make some pretty good points, but I think you could possibly be over-estimating Cataclysm.

@infernaldemon1234 Tankedmoos on ET server, I've done 10/12 ICC and it just does not keep my attention for very long. Personally I'd take GW2 over WoW neday if it's a good as it seem. WoW has become a giant gear grind that has been tiresome...claiming WoW as an RPGMMO is an ill lable as the essence of RPGing is out the window which Guild Wars 2 is making a serious effort to bring back in MMOs.
I don't deny WoW as the top notch game in end game content..but thats all they really got.

@infernaldemon1234 I'm a GW fanboy, but, if you care to check Édge - Undead Mage - Argent Dawn, in the guild Bad Influence, you will see I have cleaned ICC25 normal. I have full epic, including 4pT10 set and parts of 25man, and 10man heroics.
Lastly: Skillbase. WoW sports 12 useable slots on one bar, and lets you use up to six bars. Most likely you never will :P
In Guild Wars 2, if you look closely enough here, you can see 10 skills - Those who have been to the official site will confirm this, but the skills are divided into five offensive (Left hand side of the hp) And five support/healing skills (displayed right.) If I remember rightly the right hand side also is used to hold the 'Elite' move too.
@WrathsEdge - The five skills on the left are Weapon Based - Using an axe will have a different set of skills to using a sword, and these skills are based on the weapon you hold, not chosen by the player.
- The five skills on the right are player based. These are the ones you will have free reign to pick and change based on what you feel best suits your playstyle. Moreover, for old GW1 fans, these skills are changeable in any area... Although not 100% about PvP areas.
@WrathsEdge touch up on the skills comments, yes 5 combat skills on right however each weapon type have seperate skills so you really have 15-20 different combat skills that you can switch weapons to utilize. On the right they are static n yes 1 slot for a healing skill, 1 slot will be an elite skill, one slot reserved for a racial ability, n a few slots reserved for furthur class custimation.
@Saco753 I know about the customizable one - If I wasnt clear about it, thats what I meant about the difference weapons make on the first five skills. Again, sorry if that didnt come across. Racial ability - I will admit not knowing about that one, thanks for letting me know. As for WoW off the top spot - I firmly believe GW2 is going to remove a few WoW players who have become disillusioned with the fanchise - I know of at least 30 from Argent Dawn who are switching.
@WrathsEdge Oh I don't doubt for an instant that GW2 will pull quite a bit of the WoW populace. However I'm fairly certain that WoW will remain the most poular MMO. But I do beleive that they will have some serious competition now. How competitive remains to be seen.
As far the skills...was just giving my 2 cents out there is all lol. Was mistaken on one thing...read that we will only be able to swap out w/ one weapon. However I'm willing to be we'll prolly have more options than in WoW.

To be fair, there will be no decent in-game footage yet purely because they do not allow programs like Fraps to be used in conjunction with games at Gamescon... If you dont like it, tough. Ha! I don't think anyone will die to get their hands on GW2, but they wont need to - If your patient then you will appreciate the game so much more than if they brought it out early. I personally am eagerly awaiting a release date and a chance for Open Beta so that I can get involved as soon as possible.

I haven't paid much attention to FFIV, but I was personally interested in Tera, and although I'm not one of those who're turned off by anime-style graphics I found their running/casting animations awful. (Shaking/rolling your ass while casting?)

@abdo2299 Well the original guild wars series was all about just buying the game from the store and never having to pay for what you already bought. So for that same reason, the makers of Gw2 (ArenaNet) has officially mentioned that the new game will also be for the one time price at the store then no fees.
Unfortunately, nobody has a clue of when Gw2 will really come out or when we'll be seeing a beta. :P But whenever it does come out, it'll be good.

@SlarMilsror The damage may be greater but won't be random. The damage you deal have very precise numbers depending on level, skill, traits, etc. So it's not like the numbers that pop up are simply completely overpowering for no reason.
And besides that, if you also didn't like the size of the damage when shown, that is customizable.

I have a question regarding the 5 left skills: I know that they contain your weapon skills, but if you wear a lvl 1 sword will it have the same attacks as a lvl 50 sword? Or will they have more epic skills. Because if they have the same skills it will be kind of boring to lvl a lot of lvls without a lot of new skills

@DJlOdion Skills unlocked are not determined by weapon, they are determined by whether you found (unlocked) the skill for the wep. You have to progress in the story or by level for that to happen. So while a wep does determine what skills you would have, it's not the wep that decides whether you're having those skills in the firstplace.
To get the skills, you have to reach the right level requirement, then find the master that you could learn the skill from. It's a nice adventure kinda thing.

ok back to school... there are 11 slots count much? and GW is based on skills you capture and effectivness instead of OP gear. the skills are meant to be worked with in limited numbers as to not make the character over powered its called balance. GW is the only mmo i have seen with a twist on play style instead of the same old crap. Grind badges buy gear and now your awesome>? thanks Arena for your hard work we like it.

@luxitvrdy There are 10 skill slots but that doesn't mean it's only 10 skills. Each class can wield different weapons, and it is the weapon choice that determines the first 5 skills on the left side of the bar. A warrior with axes on both hands would have all 5 skills on left filled with axe skills. A war with one axe on left and warhorn on right would have 3 axe skills and 2 for warhorn. A warrior with bow will have all 5 as bow skills. However the 5 on the right are completely customizable.

@infernaldemon1234 The game on the demos are only being run on default, good sir. :P It was said that the game can run with Directx 10 as well as other options for those that want far more. However as this game was meant to run on a wide variety of mid-range gaming computers, they're trying not to scare off Gw1 fans or others for that matter. Afterall, does the whole gaming community have awesome computers? No, they don't.

Looks awesome. 10 skills at a time? I really like the idea how it can be played through either with a team or solo. It sucked trying to get through GW with the lack of healers available. Many times we had to substitute NPCs (henchies & heroes) for the needed professions. GW2 doesn't need that :)

Hello guys, I'm wondering if any of you could tell me whether or not my rig should run GW2. It's relatively old, but I'm hoping upto the job. I'm not holding out any hopes for maximum settings, just a reasonably reasonable FPS.
Specs: AMD Athlon 4200+, 2gb ram, HD 4670 1gb, ASUS A8N-SLI MOBO.

Side note...search youtube for these videos due to they are some EXTREMELY high caliber demos. Much more than these other typical demos you see of GW2 all over youtube. Developers do a walkthrough with the game mechanics and gameplay.

@MrAnonUK ArenaNet hasn't announced the gaming specs yet, ony that "It'll perform greatly on a mid-ranged performance computer." Once they open beta up we'll might know more on what kind of computer specs will be needed.
On a different note. search youtube for these demos as they are EXTREMELY high quality w/ developers doing a walkthrough of the game mechanics.

@MrAnonUK in all honesty i think you would have trouble with the frame rate. 2gig of ram sounds ok but im betting it runs at 400mhz in a rig of this age which is a bit slow also. It might be worth you trying though but you def want to change that GPU. You can pick up a geforce 460 for less than £150. If it doesnt work you will still have the graphics card. I then u could still get a duell core CPU / mobo and 1600mhz ram for about £200 it you shopped about.. Scan is a good site.

@Tuclanifeht Funnily enough since last posting that I've gone out and purchased and new graphics card, I only had £100 spare at the time though so picked up a Geforce 450. Ram is the next upgrade on my list, and then case along with getting rid of the old 939 socket mobo so I can start thinking about a new processor.

As to the whole P2P n B2P arguements...well..don't be suprised if P2P buisness practice gets shaken up a bit. Most B2P/F2P couldn't hold a grain a of salt to P2P MMOs but GW2 will challange that. Turbine did the same thing, they converted from P2P to F2P but with an in-game store that skyrocketed their sales. Now I played DDO n while I didn't feel much for the game the fact remains that they acquired substantial profit by dropping the P2P model...in Asia they follow a non P2P model more.

The fact you can pay the monthly sub fee... Good for you. It doesn't nessisarily mean that the game is quality - Just look at Runescape. Poor gameplay, poor graphics, but I wont deny it has good diversity and a decent, if basic storyline. Yet you pay to access the better features of the game - Doesn't make the game top-end stuff. Saco753, you make some pretty good points, but I think you could possibly be over-estimating Cataclysm.

@infernaldemon1234 Tankedmoos on ET server, I've done 10/12 ICC and it just does not keep my attention for very long. Personally I'd take GW2 over WoW neday if it's a good as it seem. WoW has become a giant gear grind that has been tiresome...claiming WoW as an RPGMMO is an ill lable as the essence of RPGing is out the window which Guild Wars 2 is making a serious effort to bring back in MMOs.
I don't deny WoW as the top notch game in end game content..but thats all they really got.

And if you apply that to woW then you'll see very little pros to WoW compared to GW2 imo. GW2 is reverting to the original concpets of RPGing which their MMO Manifesto pretty much nails everything on the bat. I view WoW as part of the Corperations that we've all come to loath and hate from someof the shit they pull.

@infernaldemon1234 I'm a GW fanboy, but, if you care to check Édge - Undead Mage - Argent Dawn, in the guild Bad Influence, you will see I have cleaned ICC25 normal. I have full epic, including 4pT10 set and parts of 25man, and 10man heroics.

Lastly: Skillbase. WoW sports 12 useable slots on one bar, and lets you use up to six bars. Most likely you never will :P
In Guild Wars 2, if you look closely enough here, you can see 10 skills - Those who have been to the official site will confirm this, but the skills are divided into five offensive (Left hand side of the hp) And five support/healing skills (displayed right.) If I remember rightly the right hand side also is used to hold the 'Elite' move too.

@WrathsEdge - The five skills on the left are Weapon Based - Using an axe will have a different set of skills to using a sword, and these skills are based on the weapon you hold, not chosen by the player.
- The five skills on the right are player based. These are the ones you will have free reign to pick and change based on what you feel best suits your playstyle. Moreover, for old GW1 fans, these skills are changeable in any area... Although not 100% about PvP areas.

@WrathsEdge touch up on the skills comments, yes 5 combat skills on right however each weapon type have seperate skills so you really have 15-20 different combat skills that you can switch weapons to utilize. On the right they are static n yes 1 slot for a healing skill, 1 slot will be an elite skill, one slot reserved for a racial ability, n a few slots reserved for furthur class custimation.

@Saco753 I know about the customizable one - If I wasnt clear about it, thats what I meant about the difference weapons make on the first five skills. Again, sorry if that didnt come across. Racial ability - I will admit not knowing about that one, thanks for letting me know. As for WoW off the top spot - I firmly believe GW2 is going to remove a few WoW players who have become disillusioned with the fanchise - I know of at least 30 from Argent Dawn who are switching.

@WrathsEdge Oh I don't doubt for an instant that GW2 will pull quite a bit of the WoW populace. However I'm fairly certain that WoW will remain the most poular MMO. But I do beleive that they will have some serious competition now. How competitive remains to be seen.
As far the skills...was just giving my 2 cents out there is all lol. Was mistaken on one thing...read that we will only be able to swap out w/ one weapon. However I'm willing to be we'll prolly have more options than in WoW.

To everyone commenting on the graphics: Please do not comment -because of this video.- Someone said it before but your all so quick to judge its quite scary. To be fair, there will be no decent in-game footage yet purely because they do not allow programs like Fraps to be used in conjunction with games at Gamescon... If you dont like it, tough. Despite the poor video quality the game actually looks pretty good - I'm looking forward to the better quality videos.
