We are currently working on numerous product videos, and I will most certainly look at doing a ribbon v ld condenser comparison. They are very different animals indeed. Very different sonic characteristics indeed. Many people refer to the sound of ribbon mics as "dark", I prefer "more natural". But thanks for the question, and stay tuned.
Why a Ribbon mic over your large diaphragm mics?? Could you do an A/B video with the same source/take, vocal, acoustic 12 string, snare drum etc to show it off. In store we struggle to provide a good quality demo for our mic customers and I feel a pre recorded a/b demo would be helpful for products like this otherwise you have no reference point. One of the best demo's I recorded was 10 different mics on the same snare drum, recorded at the same time. Very revealing, useful and very instant.
These were actually made with ProShow Producer. The live video demos with Final Cut and Pinnacle

The ribbon mic element is thinner than a LD condenser capsule(1.8 um vs 3 um).The transients are much quicker and great for vocals, horns and saxes.
