I feel the gopro 2 is the better all around camera as the capture features but the contour has better fun features. Out of the 2 which is your favorite?
@mrmidnight32 oohh.. thats a hard one.. I like how strong the GoPro is, but i love the shape of the Contour. I cant decide, you see I get to play with both of them and when I'm out on a shoot I alway have both. If i am helmet mounting.. it's the Contour. If I am Chest mounting it's the GoPro, they are both such reliable cameras now that both produce amazing image.. I really can pick one over the other. It all depends on what feature are most important to you.
@PointOfViewCameras What about for my applications. Im looking to strap on my moto/helmet and car for track days surf board and take snowboarding. One would be a better choice for all around than the other or still both still hard to choose.
@mrmidnight32 I've used both, primarily for auto cross. I like the mounts and adjustability of the Contour plus the bluetooth preview is awesome. The GoPro captures a slightly better image but the Contour is very adjustable from phone app or computer. The GoPro captured better engine and exhaust sounds, The Contour had lots of wind noise depending on the mounting location.
Overall I choose Contour and currently use 1 Contour+ and 1 ContourROAM
Cool vid! I've got a Hero HD, and seem to have a hard time getting the clarity that you're getting when uploading to youtube. What resolution are you shooting, what editing program are you using and how exactly are you rendering your videos? (Settings, format, etc...)
the contour appears to have better (more natural) natural light levels. Why does every person with a GoPro strapped to their head look like a douchebag?
I like the Contour a lot better in terms of bulk and size and also in the video it was a little easier to focus on than the GoPro, darker but seemed more crisp. Thanks for the video, really helped with choosing what to get.
@Legendarystar11 I mean the actual camera where you can make a time-lapse, etc I think it's like an 8 mp camera compared to a 5mp camera from the original hero. My hero works just fine and I've talked to people that have the hero 2 and it's not much changed.
@Legendarystar11 the hero 2 is just more of a professional camera, they didn't change anything with how good the camera takes vids, just that the camera is better and they added more lenses or changed something with the lenses
A little of topic but, What program did you use to edit. I really like the sweep comparisions. I have Contour GPS and use it for paintball and hi-speed car shots. The gps lets us track how fast the car is going at any given time around the track. I wonder what the new HERO2 would be like in a side to side comparsion.
@DrGoPro I have the Contour GPS and yes you can change the brightness/contrast and I think even saturation (I don't recall that setting right now). More importantly you now have an Android / iPhone app which allows you to adjust these settings right from your phone on the fly. And if all else fails, you can always fix the colors in post using a movie editor. So yeah, its a big win. Congratulations on a great buy!
@101johngalt side by side the Hero does take in a little more light, but its really hard to get a lens that small to perform well in low light situations. Big lens means bigger camera. Its gonna be tough to have the best of both worlds.
Im a paintball player that really needs a helmet cam! I cant decide on if I should get the GoPro Hero 2 or the Contour Roam. The camera is going to have plenty of abuse. I like that the Contour has a app to view the camera on a smart phone but I like that the GoPro has a head strap the goes on the forhead unlike how the contour head strap goes to the side.
@helipad14399 If you want low pro, then the contour will be closer to your head. You can mount it on the top of your head. Lay it flat on the top of you helmet and rotate the lens. If your paint balling i would think you would want the camera as close to your head as possible. On the other hand maybe you want a square target for your opposing team to try and snipe while engaging them? haha, i would rock out the contour if I were you for this particular sport.
@PointOfViewCameras Thanks I ended up getting the Gopro Hero 2 yesterday and so far it's amazing, I'll try it on the field next saturday! feel free to watch it I should have it up on youtube next week!
@helipad14399 Hey man, I for one paintball with a Contour 1080. I drilled two holes in the goggle strap and ziptied it to my grills, this offered much better angle and stability. I'll try and post some sample footage. But it is excellent, especially because some end masks cover the goggle strap would go.
@TheOriginalUberfetus Yeah I've seen how people have done that with the contour. I personally like the GoPro better because it is made to go on the center of the head (forhead area) unlike the contour going to the side. but still really cool!
@helipad14399 Every persons preference is different! I LOVE the side angle because it makes the action point blank. I find that gopro's that are mounted on top look really far away, but that is a mounting problem and not a camera problem. Anyways I WILL upload some footage, I just need the correctrogram to render, I'll link you to my page when it is done.
@helipad14399 Get the go pro hd hero 2 thats what i use and its by far better in my opinion but i use it for motocross so its a little different however it would easily take a paintball shot if it ever got hit since it can be dropped from 30,000 feet and still work! You could use the chest harness mount also when paintballing so you camera isnt like a target sticking out :)
@helipad14399: I recommend getting the contour roam model 1600. It can take allot of damage and if you want you can get a cover for it so the paintballs won't get on it, and the cover makes the camera waterproof. But the gopro is still good but i would go for the contour!
@EGQJR7071 Good question, but it really depends what I would be using it for. I could get alot of use out of both of these. If i was underwater or risking dropping the camera at a high speed, I might go with the GoPro. If i was snowboarding I would want the more low profile look the Contour has. When you have two really good cameras like these it all becomes preference.
Love my GoPro HD, but the Contour Plus looks like it has better quality video, in the little details, and has more features. The question is, is it worth 500$ to you?
I have been looking for a helmet cam for over a month, the contour or the go pro? I would only use it on my helmet for dh biking and snowboarding, could someone please help me!!!!
@BikeSnowvids All the cameras we now carry are producing very clean and tight looking videos. It really is more about what camera suites you.
I suggest you weigh out the different features on each camera.
Contour will mount closer to your helmet, low profile. GoPro is the most waterproof right out of the box hands down. Contour+ can give you a live preview of your shot from your smart phone.
Contour+ looks far superior to me. If you like the (unrealistically) bright colour of the GoPro you can do that in post. You wont gain the detail and sharpness of the Contour in post.
The Contour + got better details (sharper image) but the colours are worse and it is much more expensive than the GoPro HD (that's why i still would buy the GoPro). I fly FPV and i noticed that the magnetic recording switch on the Contour fails every flight (it stops recording although the battery is full and the card is not).
I can't really get anything from this. Either image can be color corrected to look identical to the other. Any quality difference is going to be lost uploading to Youtube. To make a fair comparison on quality, you'd have to have both source files playing back on your computer. Also, I'd wish you'd leave the audio in for each camera. I don't think people realize how bad the wind noise is on the Contour. Yes, the + has a mic input, but it's also $200 more.
@iTechVidsOfficial I´ve decided to go with the gopro myself.. mainly becouse I will be using it for very defferent sports.. you have so much options on mounting it
Thanks for the side by side comparison, very helpful. The GoPro looks a lot brighter and more vibrant than the Contour but it really blows out the details in the brights (highlights).
Doing side-by-side video like this is a great idea for comparisons... Thanks much for the video! Great job.
