  • where's the HD verson?

  • i' m sure those scientists folks know a lot that they are not gonna show us, usually they pick the crappy stuff and show it to the people and htey leave the jiucy and important stuff for their own exploration and use.

  • Why are there never any stars?

  • Because the Earth is much brighter than the background stars. To capture the stars a longer exposure time would be needed, but this would overexpose and 'wash-out' the Earth.

  • Beautiful =)

  • nice inner glowing... radioactivity ? :)

come on even the pope was in space... the catholic church would not agree somewhere in the late 1980s or early 1990s that the earth is not a Pizza ;)

  • nice inner glowing... radioactivity ? :)

  • I don't think this is genuine.

What spacecraft could have taken this video? Plus, video is rare on probes and such.

  • its not video its pictures put together to make a video. The space craft is the NASA's EPOXI spacecraft.

  • Whatever your reasons, you're an idiot for saying that.

  • moron - grow a brain

  • Pull your head out, stop living in fantasy land... Space travel, pffft!

  • You're the one living in fantasy land. ;)

  • Earth? Well Earth has to reflect at least kinda well, all that water and clouds has to do something!

  • они заполонили?

  • shut the hell up? noone cares that you know about space, jeez

  • cause the moon reflects too much light and blocks them out?

  • It makes sense.

  • wtf happened to the stars

  • Correction, that's Mariner not Voyager,

  • You're talking rubbish.

You do realise that there are a lot of amateur astronomers who are able to image Venus with high enough resolution to be able to see this supposed 'blue ocean'? NASA would have to keep everyone with a decent telescope quiet.

Are you aware that both the Soviets and the ESA have sent probes to/past Venus? Are they lying too?

Finally, neither the Mariner of Voyager missions individually imaged 'all' the planets.

Do some basic research before spouting nonsense.

  • Venus is the closest planet to Earth in distance & size. That's not rubbish. Mariner took a photo of Venus, which showed white clouds & a blue surface. That's not rubbish.

But when NASA "updated" the photo using a non-photographic telescopes, making Venus appear yellowish. That was rubbish.

NASA has endorsed the theory of Global Warming. But, oopsy. forgot they said Venus suffered the same type of event. Now, why if studying other planets teach about earth, isn't NASA pushing Venus?

  • And NO I'm not a Conspiracy Theorist. But, if we're spending Billions on the Space Program. & we're told Global Warming is the greatest threat to mankind, by NASA no less. Well it only makes sense to study our "Sister Planet" which according to them suffered the same sort of event in a runaway greenhouse effect.

And you're right! I'm not a scientist, or a professor, or even that smart. Which makes it strange, that no one else has noticed this obvious "oversight." CRK

  • Again, you need to do some basic research.

Some problems with your claims. Venus is covered by clouds. As such, the only way to actually 'see' the surface is with radar to get a topographic map. Topographic maps are not 'true coloured' images of the surface. I assume this is what you mean by 'non-photographic' telescopes -- the radar instruments.

  • Yes, I mean the the type of "modern telescope which does not take a picture, but instead collects data used to create a rendering. The Mariner Photo is online google it. Now, I will concede that perhaps the Blue in the oic may not be the planets surface. I don't know for sure, but to be fair, neither do you. All we know is that when a Satelite took a linear photo, the planet looked like Earth does from Space. And then, NASA put out a portrait which makes it look yellow. CRK

  • Radar - it isn't exactly 'modern'. And it was an instrument on a probe, not an Earth based telescope.

Anyway, the time line also doesn't fit with your claim - the LAST Mariner mission to visit Venus was in 1974 whilst the first NASA radar topographical map I can think of was made by the Pioneer Venus project -- which arrived in orbit in 1978. That's a four year gap between the original image and the cover-up 'portrait'.

  • "The Mariner Photo is online google it."

The Mariner mission took more than one image. You'll have to be more specific.

"I don't know for sure, but to be fair, neither do you"

I've already explained why I do.

  • Which image are you referring to as the original "white clouds & a blue surface" image? I've seen a few on google -- all showing only clouds (no surface) and all delibredly false coloured. Nothing that fits your description. Show me a visible spectrum image of the surface of Venus (ie. Not radar) that shows it as blue and was not purposefully false coloured (ie. An image that you think is how Venus 'really' looks). Does anyone else claim Venus should look like that? If so, details?

  • The Mariner Photo. And please allow me to clarify, I hav not seen a surface image of Venus. I'm talking about what the Planet looked like from space.White clouds (Lots of them) covering a bluish surface. I'll google it and try and post a link.

  • Here is what I've learned: NASA claims that Mariner's imaging was 'distorted (my simplification)' by the Sun reflecting off Venus' dense canopy. And that's why it appears bluish under the clouds. So, NASA used instruments other than imaging device (Linear Camera) to gather data in order to create a 'rendering' of what the data indicated. CRK

  • You're yet to refer me to this image. But it looks like you've found an explanation?

  • Also, you ignored some key points I already made. NASA isn't the only space agency that has 'been' to Venus -- the Soviets landed probes on the surface and the ESA has a probe orbiting the planet as we speak. Are they in on this too? Is ALL that data being manipulated? If so, how are they keeping it a secret? Why hasn't anyone else noticed?

  • Well the Soviets don't exist so they aren't hiding anything anymore. And it is strange to be raised in a society which taught me to distrust everythiing the Soviets did or said, but their photo of Venus (which looked like the side of the road in New Mexico) should be taken as gospel.

  • "Well the Soviets don't exist so they aren't hiding anything anymore."

The Russian space agency still exists. Assuming your claim is accurate, they'd still have to be covering it up. Why have none of the past soviet (or otherwise) mission scientists come forward to reveal the secret since?

"but their photo of Venus should be taken as gospel"

So now you're claimng that first Venera image from the surface might be fake? *sigh* Evidence?

  • Chrissy, You obviously have more knowledge of Space Science (not that I was challenging you) However, best keep it in that arena and on topic. Modern Russia is a totally different government, and a different program than the Soviets, YOU KNOW THAT, I"M SURE. To say they are the same is to try an d be contentious, when all I want to do is discuss something, which I think is interesting, and isn't being discussed elsewhere. Have I come to the right place?CRK

  • I never said that the old Soviet program is "the same" as the modern Russian effort. All I said was that the space program does still exist. They're the ones to talk to about the older soviet missions. Furthermore -- like I said -- we still have the retired soviet era scientists who must be part of the cover-up.

  • Furthuremore -- like I already said -- even amateur astronomers are able to image Venus with high enough resolution to detect large oceans (assuming they can be seen through the clouds as you seem to be claiming) -- and that's not to speak of the multitude of countries (some not too 'friendly' with the USA) who have professional observatories. How are these groups being kept quiet? Your claim falls apart.

  • You seem to be very upset by my theory. You ask question after question, picking at me. I'm not pretendiung to be an expert. I even admit I'm not all that smart. But, with NASA backing the Theory of Global Warming and with NASA having already said Venus (Earth's twin) suffered a similar fate, it is odd that there hasn't been more clamor to study Venus. WOuldn't you agreee on that?

  • "You seem to be very upset by my theory"

I'm not upset at all. Your claim is just plain wrong.

"You ask question after question, picking at me."

I'm 'picking' at your claim, not at you. I'm not trying to be mean. I'm asking these questions because they're important and need to be addressed for your claim to stand.

    "WOuldn't you agreee on that?"

Not really? Like I've said (for the third time now), there IS a probe at Venus as we speak and there are also future probes planned.

  • "Well it only makes sense to study our "Sister Planet" which according to them suffered the same sort of event in a runaway greenhouse effect."

Well, Venus IS being studied. Like I said, the ESA have a probe in orbit there as we speak. It's called Venus Express, look it up.

"Which makes it strange, that no one else has noticed this obvious "oversight.""

Because, as I've shown to you, there isn't any "oversight". Your claim Is just false.

  • My claim that it's strange that NASA has for whatever reason, taken up the cause of Global Warming, but not tied it to the one planet in our Solar System which is closest to our own in size and distance, & which experienced the same event NASA says the Earth is now?

Oh, I see now, you're right, nothing strange there:) CRK

  • Thats completley wrong, Venus is pretty much hell, viscous acid rain, thick methane clouds 300 degree temperature. Venus doesn't suffer from global warming, it suffers from being in a closer orbit around the sun, if you took earth and put it in the same orbit then the seas would boil and methane would be released from the rocks causing a thick atmosphere and then earth would turn into another Venus. Last time a checked global warming isn't caused by a decreased solar orbit.

  • Not methane, sulfuric acid. While some of it is due to its relative closeness to the sun, the other is the greenhouse affect, as Venus' surface temperature is hotter than that of Mercury's surface temperature, and mercury basically hugs the sun. Mercury oddly also has some of the coldest temperatures in the solar system on its night side (-297F!)

  • Shadowpillar, I'm aware that Venus has a higher surface temp due to the atmosphere. My point is that the thick atmosphere is caused by the planet being closer to the sun, causing liquid gasses to boil off and contribute to the atmosphere. Mercury does not have an atmosphere as i'm sure you're aware.

  • Gotta love the Goldilocks zone.

  • Venus does suffer from a runaway green house effect, a closer orbit is just cherries on top.

  • good!!!!!!!!!

  • I've never seen it like that before most of the time its computer generated. This is awsome.

  • GOOD VIDEO!!!!

  • just think if tyhe earth spun straight, there would be no seasons. i wonder what the uk weather would be like? maybe a shitty spring type climate with rain lol

  • fake

  • i can see my house from here

  • Very nice..I love space shots!

  • so what is this good for

  • Good video!

  • That is so fucking cool, but unfortunately where the light year is so much larger than this distance and the light year is so small and insignificant to the entire universe, this large distance seems like nothing when you think about it hard enough.

  • my guess with us finding planets from really far away is this....a lot of the darkness out there could actually be interstellar objects like planets and moons. we just haven't mastered looking for them yet. ALSO my prediction is that the universe is round and eventually all galaxies will merge into one

  • that is true but the unverse is growing all the time so how can we be all one if galaxies are popping out of nowhere

  • WHO CARES?

  • I do.

  • cool 8-)

  • wow :)

  • it's réal huummmmmmm not réal fake no

  • WTF i dont get it can someone explane?

  • Looks like 12 year old computer game graphics...

  • lol

  • Blast Corps?

  • its real images not graphics. FROM SPACE! :p

  • Amacing!

But... if the sun is on the right side (looking on how earth is illuminated) I wonder why is the moon so... pale on the right portion. I'd expect more or less a half white circle (like letter 'D')

    Where's my mistake?

  • Good point. I had to think about it for a while and its probably a matter of exposure. My guess is that the Earth is much brighter than the moon so in order to properly expose the Earth, that is to not make it look like a big bright blob, the camera took the photo with a small aperture setting. The earth looks 'normal' and the moon looks dark. Its the same problem like when you take a photo of a person on a very bright day and the subject's face is too dark.

  • My last comment was in reply to Krauto

  • Yep,the continents are much more pronounced because they were imaged through an infrared filter, and vegetation is bright at near-infrared wavelengths (Courtesy of Donald J. Lindler, Sigma Space Corporation/GSFC; EPOCh/DIXI Science Teams.

  • There is no dark side of the moon. As a matter of fact, its all dark.

  • what?

  • [for Pink Floyd fans. Ignore me.]

  • the Earth is much brighter than the Moon seen from space, and that's because of the brigth clouds in our atmosphere. The camera on the satellite which took the picture focused to get the best possible view of our planet, sacrifying the quality of the Moon. Otherwise the moon would look the way we see it from here but Earth would be a bright unfocused blur.

  • It's more that it's filtered to image more than the visable spectrum, thermal imaging and the like would show the planet much brighter than the moon.

  • The Moons shadow is cast on the Earth during an Eclipse.

  • lonelyyyyyyyyyyy...so lonelyyyy la la la laaaaaaaaaa

  • Amazing video, from the Deep Impact spacecraft, now called EPOXI. Over the course of one Earth day in May, the spacecraft snapped images every 15 minutes to produce a movie of the Moon gliding in front of our home planet, whose swirling clouds and continents rotated in and out of view.

  • PLEASE stop making videos about my testicles.

  • It's Death Star

  • You may fire when ready...

  • That's no moon...it's a space station. Look at the size of that thing!

  • Its dragging us in! Reverse thrusters at maximum.

  • There's nothing I can do...It's got us in a tractor beam...

  • cool.

  • I think I saw my house from that view

  • i hear its made of cheese and a man lives in it and once a cow jumped over the moon which made the clangers and the soup dragon mad but hey we'll find out soon as apparently we're building a big silver fish to swim to the moon p.s button moon button moon ....

  • i want what you're smoking

  • ohhhhhh yea :)

  • Wouldn't it only cast a shadow during an eclipse? Because if you're in the shadow looking up from earth, none of the sun's rays are hitting you, meaning you can't see the sun making it a full eclipse.

  • tripclaw, the Moon would cast a shadow if it were between the Sun & the Earth, but in this video, it is not. Here, the Sun is off to the right. The Moon passes between the Earth & the spacecraft. We see the right side (sunward) of the Earth & the Moon, their shadows (umbra) trail behind them off to the left. Since there is no perspective in this video, it looks like the Moon & Earth are close together, when of course, they are not. That's why the Moon's shadow does not pass over the Earth.

  • that's no moon...

  • It's a space station!!

  • looks like cg but I guess its legit

  • i don't get it

  • video looks fishy to me.

  • no because the sunlight as you ccan tell from the video is coming in from the right side off the screen somewhere not directly in front of the earth if it passed in that condition then we might see a shadow but I doubt it even then, becuase it might be too small.

  • Wow it almost looks fake lol.

  • Extremely interesting.

  • awesome!

  • I can't pause this video...

  • yeah neither can I

  • i could!

    *shows off mad pausing skillz*

  • lol I could never top your skillz

  • im sorry but i dont get it lol

  • Amazing!

  • sweet

  • Cool , very interesting .
