This is precisely why Phil is such a great drummer. He's an actual musician who 'hears,' understands, and therefore knows how to play to the music itself. He's one of the most 'musical' drummers out there. I've always appreciated Phil's inexorable role in laying the foundation for Radiohead's music.
Actually very beautiful. He has always been the NickHornby'ish guy in the background for me. A great inspired drummer... And now he sings::: Nice! The world's a turning.
nice! so he's supposed to be coming out with a solo album? i like how this wicked drummer of a band with a penchant for electronic robo-sounds has this passion for folk music. nice voice too.
Well now i know Phil actually sings, and plays guitar as well. He's pretty good. Perhaps a solo album?
Ok, so Thom, Ed, and Phil can sing. What about Johnny and Phil? Well, I know for a fact that Phil sung (or rather, spoke kinda faded) in "New generation" one of their earliest demos when they were called On A Friday. What about Johnny?
You said Phil twice. I think you meant what about Jonny and Colin. Plus you spelled Jonny's name wrong; it's spelled like the way I'm spelling it. Get your shit together man.
in terms of keping time, hes is rock solid. Ive been to plenty of their shows and he just nails it. He super nice and calm which as a drummer myself its quite out of the ordinary. \
God. This just proves that Radiohead is truly the most talented band of our generation, and that any member in that band can do whatever the hell they want and succeed at it.
man ive never even heard him speak, let alone sing. i guess everyone in the band is multi instrumental after all. dont know about collin though. only time will tell. but he didn't awesome though
HOLY MOLLY! I thought this was Billy Corgon at first glance lol.
But wow, who would have thought Phil could be such an exceptional drummer but hide his talents of singing/guitar for so long>? I know he does the back up vocals on There There, but im really excited to hear his solo music.
in all honestly, when i heard that mr selway had done a solo performance i was slightly hasty about hearing it. i was expecting some bog standard strumming and not much more. he's an excellent drummer and surely should stick to that. how wrong was i?! he plays and sings beautifully. i really hope he pursues this venture. sounds like he's been doing it in secret for a long time and is no beginner so he might keep it that way. i hope he doesn't though.
yes, not bad, maybe Radiohead could use with a bit more collaboration on song writing, not just Thom and Jonny all the time. Of couse Phil has sung backup before
the brilliance of radiohead is shown here as i'm sure this is proof that all the members are capable writing great songs themselves--thus which leads to the wonderful, creative minds that make up one of the best bands out there
I have been trying to sing lately but I think I need singing lessons pretty bad. I have a rendition of there there on my videos if you don't mind nails on a chalkboard. I call it the thumbs WAY down version lol.
Hmmm...reminds me of another famous "Phil the drummer" who eventually ended up as the lead singer and then a great solo career! Watch your back Thom! (you know I still luv ya)
Thank you soooooooo much Schro23. Radiohead fans have been waiting a long painful time to finally see, how Phils singing voice is. And I'm surprised. It's warm and mellow. Looking forward to his solo album.
