  • thanks The power supply is a step up transformer used to charge the primary capacitor. I use a transformer that puts out at least 5kV, otherwise you may have problems with the spark gap not firing.

    Neon sign transformers (NSTs) are the preferred power supplies. Other transformers can be used such as oil burner igniter transformers (OBITs), microwave over transformers (MOTs)
