The "Big Greasy One" went through several stages--before he was a snarky iconoclast, he was a guy who played a character based on a bluesy black jock--that's how he did nights in Rochester at the old WAXC/1460 in 1972-73, and later at the old WRC/980 in Washington when NBC owned it in 1974.
Started listening to him in 1983 while working in southern Md. He was on DC-101. Don't think I ever heard anything so funny in my life. Sure do miss his show. Wish he was on the air in Baltimore. Morning radio is the absolute pits. Same lame DJ's trying to be cute.
I was a young Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, Ca. in the early 90's when my buddy brought a cassette back to the barracks. "One of the guys had this, its totally youre kind of humor, Strube!" It was love at first sight. Never knew a thing about who "Grease" was or where the tape was recorded, being from Nebraska and all. Lost that tape many years ago..."Quanq Tri 1967...When the name on my uniform read "Grease" Minelli... But everybody knew me as...SGT FURY!!!"
The Greaseman blows, too bad he wasn't actually stoned (Iranian stoned not Keith Richards stoned). Everybody's jealous of the greaseman and his incoherent rants, thats why he's not on the radio anymore
This made me sad. The Greaseman is a good friend of my father. They became friends at a local gym and belonged to a gym rat group called "The Guns of Aspen Hill". After that failed show in LA (worst time slot, later they forced a female host with him, awful) and getting fired from DC 101, he wasn't quite the same. Of course, off all the shock jocks who have made public faux pas, he was never forgiven. Don Imus, Howard Stern and others all got their jobs back in short periods of time.
A few years ago I heard him do a skit for thanksgiving, it was soo fucking hilarious....um something about Mrs ruthefurd or something, if anyone can find it I would apreciate it.
it is spiritual, there is no other way he could be the grease,I was blessed to be around him in the early days,I was in the shadows at the mothership, 50,000 watts
" THe Big Ape" 690 me and "ol Amos Johnson" they say behind every great man is a great woman, greese had that great woman, thats why he's the grease, ahead of his time but he brought us all along ones who love and overstand, "he dont mean nothing" pure lyric was he in rays of sun all the flowers knew it and were laughing,
Has anyone posted or heard Greaseman's song called, "She's Got Dick On Her Mind All The Time". I can't seem to find it online and I am the one who produced it. I produced it in the early 90s. If I can find my original master on it, I will post it.
what made greaseman so much better than everyone else was that his comedy came from his great skits and stories, very clever and spontaneous...stern and most of the others get their humor from putting other people down or just crude humor that takes no brains or talent to come up with
It always amazed me how The Grease never got even the tenth of the fame that the no-talent Howard Stern got, considering that The Grease has more talent in his little finger than H.S. has in his whole being......
2:52 Z-93 in Atlanta. I worked one floor below the studio and met Grease several times when he would visit. I lived in D.C. in early 80's after college and have been a fan since!
Sgt. Fury,Holy Roman Empire,My Daddy(and Thelma Buckles),rotton stinking tunafish!,the fan belt, talking to the baby, these hands have been blessed by God!,Martini, fire up the good ship grease!bladda bludda bludda,One man water sking, lumber, bulkyman, martini time, blaster piece theater,Carlos the international terroist, the handbook, chapter 26,funny little honey, little latin loopy lou,Sombodys been doing that thing,Black Slacks,But,a little knock on the head.oh Clinton!,molecular dis-location,
Greaseman ruled. I listened daily when he was on a New York station in the early 90's. I wish he'd put out a cd of his songs. I e-mailed him once and he replied right away. Nino IS the man.
I emailed him numerous times and he always responded back. ..HIM, not an assistant. I also listened to him since he was syndicated and on KROCK in the early 90's(evenings) when Stern did mornings and was greatly bothered by Grease's talent level. Damn, he was and still is funny...and SOOOO talented.

Can't believe people think this is considered funny. I guess if I was tone deaf I would think it's funny too

Greaseman was too free for the propaganda needed for 9/11 and the war, so when he slipped with that racial comment, they pounced.
Also, the other radio show hosts used their connections to wash him out.
He'd come back if there was enough time.
