I had a pair of red-rumps, but female died after 1 1/2 months.. But male still can't get used to humans, and is scarried of my hands, lol xD idk why... Mb any1 can give a tip?
@iMPRE7ed Sorry to hear that the female died. I really reccomend clicker training, Gimli responded really well to it :) (I had tried other ways before but it didn't work). Do a search for "Building Trust With Your Bird" on You Tube. I followed the advice there for my first steps on getting Gimli tame. Don't hesitate to ask more questions. Good luck!
Yes it is, I am hoping that eventually she will "like" touching my finger enough to actually sit on it. But this step is taking quite a while since she is really easily spooked (the transition from giving mer her foot to her actually sitting om my finger).
Hehe, thanks. She is a really sweet little birdie.
No and yes. Technically a budgerigar is a type of parakeet. A parakeet is a collective name for small to medium sized parrots with long tails (I think, you may have to check the accuracy of this - but it's waht I think).
Hahaha -- well well, there are two methods around this -- If your parakeet is ok with hands/handling you can try just pushing your finger against you parakeet's stomach softly (just enought to throw him off balance) -- your parakeet will automatically step up onto your finger to balance himself. Then give him loads n loads of praise to getting onto your finger!
For just a "foot-lift" like Gimli's in this video: I started by clicking and treating her for just lifting her foot and then raising the critera so that eventually she was grabbing onto my finger :D
Your pet is so cute and very talented.. Nice!

she pecked

Well she is forgiven because she is learning... and she is also getting less afraid of my hand! (which means not as much "pecking")
