I don't think a whole month off jumping would have been the best idea, i would have carried on jumping but kept the jumps really really low :/ or you teach him if he doesn't want to jump he gets to laze around for a while :L x
LOVELY PONYYY HOPE YE GET BACK TO JUMPIN + WHEN UR HACKIN TRY POPIN OVER LITTLE TREES , STINKS ANYTHING SMALL 4 HE/SHE 2 GET BETTER AT JUMPN ALL DIIFERRENT THINGS
Lovelly pony , same thing happened to me . One day my pony got eliminated from both bsja classes and i thought it was the end of him sj career !! but hes come back after 10 weeks of not bein ridden and a new saddle ABSOLUTELY AMAZING :) good luck for the summer ahead :) xx
My horse does a similar thing when he has knocked a jump so i know how you feel he just refuses repeatedly until i let him find his own way over a small one a few times then he is back to himself again haha, stupid sensitive horse ;)... Glad you're having fun with your pony again.
@breyercraze101 i was giving advice, she didnt take it the wrong way. im not saying she should have done what i suggested, but its exactly that, a SUGGESTION.
dont you think it would have been better not to stop jumping for a month, but carry on at it and at it and at it till he gives in? even if its just poles on the floor? no offence to you, but thats what i would have done. perservere till they know whos boss. thats what i had to do today, had a fight with a 4 year old who kept tanking off, which nearly resulted to me in a tree. VERY close too infact. but i didnt leave, i kept going untill he became submissive, and bingo, the battle was won.
@3ForeverLast - I think you did the right thing! Yea, sometimes you have to push your horse but your really the only person who knows what he needs, and whats best for him :)
@horsymad100 You can only push a horse so hard. She didnt want to make him mad. He might of needed the rest and she didnt see that he did. She is a different person. That hose is different from your's I'm sure of, all horses and people are different. Look at this video again, you can see what she isdoing and what he is feeling.
@horsymad100 A horse shouldn't be forced into "giving in". A horse should enjoy jumping, if you have to force it then there are serious underlying issues! I think this girl did the right thing - horses often go stale if people over-jump or over-face them. I worry that you have a 4yo who is tanking off with you. A 4yo should never be doing that in the first place! Horses dont naturally misbehave just for the hell of it, you must be doing something wrong.
Im very srry i seen the fall and it was horrible...and you have a georgous pony...i hope he can go back to the spunky pony with jumping he always was cuz i watch all your videos.!!! good luck
Is he jumping now? My cob does that sometimes if i have jumped him alot he just gets bored but if i dont do any jumping for a couple of weeks he is back to loving his jumping, some times they have funny ideas lol
is he very old? because sometimes, when horses get older, they just lose interest in stuff like that, like a horse i used to know, she used to be a hunter (like, with the hounds, i think), but in her old age, she lost interest.
i imagine he stopped jumping because you never gave him a proper release so he was being hit in the mouth, and because you always smacked down onto his back before he had a chance to land.
but i wasnt extremely sad and saying oh its such a low its not,its the best thing for tam and your still riding him and you will find it isnt too bad :D
I've always had problems with my arms with this pony because he is quite strong, and I used to (and occassionally slip back into) hold him into a contact. BUt hopefully it's getting better. :)
Luckily me and Karl have passed this phase in our partnership and now hes competing away from home at 2ft3/2ft6, and jumping around 3ftish at home so have faith.
If I was you, get your ponys back/teeth/saddle checked out cos it could be that but work on having fun without jumping for a while...thats what I did and Karl is great to jump now, hes a completely different pony! :)
its ok... just build up the confidence and trust again. I am experiencing a similar disapointment with my lease pony. I'm sure it will work out with you guys... good luck he's a beauty
me and my horse took a fall like yours.. + afterwards she didnt want to be rode at all, once i got her feeling more confident i started using poles as part of schooling, then began puttin them up as her confidence grew.. dont worry he'll get his confidence back, it'l just take a bit of time.. good luck :)
I would be afraid too.. If I had tumbled like that.. So you can't blame him.. He just needs a confidence booster! :D
My horse did this to me also.. So we just would trot poles and when he went over then I attacked him with hugs, kisses, pats, and treats!! I hope you two get back to jumping!
Hey, I shouldn't worry too much... I had the same problem in November last year, Smartie suddenly wouldn't jump a thing in the field and he's usually better out there than in the school, but I couldn't get him over 2'6!! I gave him a couple of weeks of just slow schooling, and he was back to normal in no time... It could just be something like he's pulled a muscle and not feeling up to it... I hope he's better soon! xx
My horse had a bad fall, she went over and she landed down on her front legs in a camal position but she came out injury free. The next time i jumped her she ran out of everything but i eventually got her over it. From then on i did hacking, schooling and some days off then after about two weeks just went of a small cross and let her take herself up to it with just my leg and she enjoyed jumping it and now shes fine. u two look great and im sure u will get him over it keep going and make it funx
hey soz to here about your problem. hopefully he will be okay after a while. BUt ont eh bright side you can focus on your flat as hes a baby he has loads to improve on as we all do at flatwork lol!!! let me know how your doing:D
get his confidence back with just poles poles and more poles, then put the poles in different places around the school to get him used to going over it then slowly raise them off the ground, and make it fun. im sorry for what happend, its not the end of the world though, it could have been worse
Look i really wouldn't be that worried. My horse used to have phases like this all the time. sometimes they just don't feel like jumping and i know that i dont know your horse but if you look at my horse jumping she hardly ever refuses. But sometimes i cant get her over a piddly 2ft6 cross just because she didn't want to. I only jump her once a month anyway. But don't be too worried im sure hell be fine you usually find its the riders that loose their confidence more than the horses.
Yeh it's just really concerning as when I got him he was fine to load and one day he decided he didn't want to and he hasn't. We had to blindfold him to get him in. But I'm praying everything will be ok. :)

Aww this happened to my horse back in like 2007/2008, nothing was wrong with him, and we didn't push him too hard, he just didn't want to jump for a bit. Well I hope Karl gets his confidence back! Good luck :)
I started him over, from the very beginning- lots & lots of ground poles. Haha Start with just walking over some poles, then trotting and then moving on to cantering. After this you could try putting maybe 4 sets of standards around the arena and put the pole on the ground then do like a half x-rail, etc. But first maybe give him like you said, a month of dressage work, he then may be more interested in jumping again :) Well good luck with him! :]
same thing happened to my pony Kestral. Sadly Kezzie was put down. Glad he's okay;]

In my opinion, stopping jumping for a month is ridiculous.
I wouldn't let my horse do that if I were you.
Like, a month?!
That would make him gain his confidence back? If you just did a tad higher jumps every few days he'll get the hang of it.
Just keep on trying :/.

It's been sevrel months ...
I have the same problem with the horse I ride now, he was perfect at jumping, I took a nasty fall and after a while got back on and jumped again fine.
Now, i'm told to get on another horse for my own saftey when jumping, he just bolts at the jumps, runs-out and then won't stop :|
Anywayy, lovely horse (:

Yeh, he is back to himself now.
Took us a while to get on track but he is brilliant and is competing happily at 75cm and jumping 1m at home.
