Clearly the young man is right; architecture is but an end in itself.

A city planner, on the other hand, is a master art in that it is the source. An architecture is merely a man who helps carry out the city planner's master work, his achievement is but a building, while the city planners achievement is an entire city.

I do not hold anything against architects by the way, by Zeus I swear this.
