  • My High School Junior/Senior band might play this for our spring concert :D!.. if we weren't so horrible this might sound good actually :l. Trumpets for the win :D!

  • Gonna play this tommorow... So exited! :D

  • Horn part in this song effing rocks

  • I played the Tb part<1

  • めっちゃいい!

    泣ける・・・・

  • I played the Euph part <3

  • Playing the clarinet solo with my best friend on piccolo. Clarinets are beast...

  • Tichelli's arrangement of this is so beautiful, it holds a special place in my heart. When I was in high school a close friend of mine died, and the wind ensemble i played first trumpet in played this in our winter concert in her honor because she was a lover of traditional irish music. I still become emotional when I listen to it.

  • I wish I still had my piccolo. I'd play that darn solo over and over again just because it's that awesome. ;_;

  • I remember playing this in High School, I played the Alto Sax, and used to play percussion. I miss it!

  • I remember when I played this back in high school. Lead horn was so fun.

  • Sitting behind horns for this is amazing. The style a good horn player will use just leaves the people who can hear the sound leave the instrument speechless.

  • Frank Tichelli is an amazing man, if you enjoy this you should as well listen to shenandoah both equally amazing songs

  • My college band just performed this piece today. It is beautiful!!! I'm just sorry to be done with it. :(

  • 1.FC Köln hymne

  • I think Frank Ticheli should be given an award just for being Frank Ticheli.

  • @kudasango Yes :) ♥

  • 5:29 <3333

  • at 5:00....... I never thought, but Danny Boy and Loch Lomond really mesh well! That's so cool!

  • This song gives me the shivers every single time I hear it...

  • what beach is this?

  • This song makes me think of some of the beautiful places I know of in Michigan. Mainly though, it makes me think of the Irish Hills and Hillsdale. When the sunflowers in bloom and you stand atop the highest point and can look on for miles and miles, that's pretty awesome.

  • This song is so beautiful!! I like how it mixes in Danny Boy at the end. :)

  • amazing gives me goosebumps

  • Didn't your theory teacher teach you never to write parallel perfect intervals, Ticheli?

  • @jacobflaschen Ticheli can do what he wants! And besides, those "guidelines" were put in place so many years ago, then unless you are in theory or early composition class, no one follows them anymore.

  • @jacobflaschen Well sure but it still sounds amazing :)

  • @jacobflaschen Its a common thing for Scottish folk music

  • @jacobflaschen Nonsense, in my opinion. Music shouldn't be held to arbitrary rules.

  • @hebrewhammershabbat I completely agree with you. I was kidding.

  • @jacobflaschen ahh, nevermind then. in hindsight I should've picked up on that.

  • I remember playing this 2 years ago on my freshmen year in the Wind Ensemble, i loved the bassoon part from meausre 28-39, get to play it again this year in the concert band on trombone. 2nd favorite tichelli piece (1st being American Elegy)

  • This song is really Dulcet <3

Were just going over it in our Wind Ensemble <3 I hope we get to perform it in our Heritage Festival this year!

  • @EmoMoodSwings the one in Newyork?

  • @joeyg1220

Oh yea <3 Don't tell me that you're going to be in it too O:

  • @EmoMoodSwings Yup, JAF, and doubt were performing it at school Domo

  • I love this version! I played this at Honor Band my sophomore year, but I didn't realize it was by Frank Ticheli! His Loch Lomond is by far my favorite arrangement I've ever heard, especially when he includes Danny Boy in the final movement, I guess you could say it is... Both of them my favorite songs; put them together and you get magnificence.

  • Ticheli is DEFFINITLEY a horn man

  • This was the first Tichelli piece i played back in 9th grade, my band director always picks one of his arrangements for our competition/evaluation

  • during my concert the flutes did a duet with the clairinets. it was simply beautiful.

  • i love this song <3 we did it for band camp at Texas A&M at Commerce for summer band camps ^^

  • FRANK TICHELI IS AWSOME!!!

  • I played this in our schools bottom band, back when I was in it, it was so fun playing =)

  • AMAZING piece. I played it 4 years ago at my HS honors band. almost brings me tears to hear it.

  • I love how he infused Danny Boy into it.

  • I love this song. :D Our high school band is playing it on tour... ^_^ And I get the piccolo solo. YAY!

It's quite annoying to have to swap instruments mid-song, though. I actually had to cut out one of the whole notes on flute so I had enough time to switch and make sure my piccolo was warm [since it was just sitting on my piccolo stand].

  • @AnimeFangurl my friend had to do that too

  • i played this song a year ago in my high school symphonic band it was quite amazing and i love it so much. the clarinet part, which i played, was so intense... my teacher even told us the story behind the song... it makes me almost cry cause i know it... i <3 this song!

  • im playing this in FIRST AVE MIDDLE BAND

  • We are playing this song in our high school band right now! I really like this song, especially the clarinet part I am playing.

  • Y'ell take the high road, and I'll take the low road, and I'll be in Scotland before ye.

  • its grade 4

  • what grade of this song?

  • Morro Bay high school played this and totally rocked. Standing ovation, it was awesome.

  • played timpani to this. we dominated this song in 8th grade. best Junior high band ever playing this wonderful arrangment can only extract a great performance and i would never forget playing this.

as well as shenandoah and american elegy

  • Played this arrangement at Mid South Honor Band here in Arkansas and it's absolutely one of the best arragngements of this song. I was honored to be part of the beautiful clarinet choir like part. Thank you, Mr. Ticheli for such a beautiful piece.

  • we played this when clinton came to speak

  • Oh my goodness I cant wait for our honor band performance. this is amazing! we're also doing his arr. of amazing grace.

  • I was going to upload that too because I played it! I never got to it though.

  • wow if that was the REAL frank ticheli that commented (is he still alive?) then i feel privileged commenting on the same video as him... he is an absolute legend and he is my idol !!

  • I Loved a lot this piece.

I`m going to played in Portugal.

    Bravo Frank Ticheli

  • Hiya

I was just watching your video and I wanted to say that Frank Ticheli - Loch Lomond. is a really good video

I love loch lomond myself it is a great place I was in Luss last sunday and recorded an amazing video that you can see on my channel I would love all feedback as well please

Once again this is a great video

  • Does anyone hear "Danny Boy" being played around 5:01 over the melody? The harmony is beautiful! To me it sounds like a beautiful theme of commiseration between the Irish and Scottish at the end, through their similar histories of hardship and suffering. Bravo for this, Ticheli. It's simply beautiful.

  • Its not the notes that make this peice difficult. Its expressing the emotion. Anyone can learn to play something like this technically but only a few can find the correct emotions. Excelent job.

  • Agreed. Times a million.

  • We just finished playing this at International Music Camp. An absolutely gorgeous piece of music. I'll never tire of it :)

  • dude, I attended the 7th Session at IMC, I played Percussion on Cymbals who this might be, just say your name and what instrament,

    Johnathan

  • My brother played this for his middle school all county concert 2 years ago. (he was 2nd or third trombone) this osng had to be my favorite

  • I love this song. We play this song in community band, it's one of my favorites. =)

  • i love this song its so beautiful

  • my orhcestra tried a shorter version out in 8th grade. the prettiest thing i've ever heard. we didn't have any bandies around but still, this is one of my favorite things ever.

  • When you play as a lower-pitched instrument, it just seems so different. Wow... this is at least 10x better than our school could ever pull off. Which kind of saddens me, since we used to have one of the best bands in the nation. No joke! We were asked a few times to play at Disney World in Florida, if I remember right.

    Representing Canton R-V

  • A beautiful song. I remember having first alto, and not enjoying playing it. But that's just because I'm not a fan of slower songs. ;D

Pretty easy for a high school band, but beautiful nonetheless.

  • Haha, I played percussion for this song back when I was in High School. Our woodwinds were not good... but it was still fun:) I miss band so terribly. I became a choir boy instead.

  • absolutely stunning

  • woo i love this im one of the first flutes in wind ensemble. amazing song by ticheli

  • I play the Picollo on this in band and everyone is going to hate me by the end with all of the high g's lol, I love this piecce of music!

  • Piccolo....

  • i played this my 7th grade year in the all region band so beautiful. And now im a sophomore, and we are playing it once again. Im a sax player. :)

  • This song is SOOOO good on 1st Clarinet. I love it, but my favorite part is around measure 96 when the Horns have the Danny Boy section. It's BEAUTIFUL

  • I play 1st too.. love the solo.. not difficult but it is so beautiful :) second favorite song by this amazing composer

  • i dislike the note at 5:47

  • i dislike you. that note is awesome.

  • ok.

  • dude i play first clarinet. this is like the best song ive ever played i love this kind of music!!!

  • I played second horn on this last year, and they didn't put shells behind us, so we were basically non-existent until the end when we play really loud lol.

  • whoever was playing 3rd trumpet is amazinggg!!!!

  • I wish the sax could have been louderT_T (played this few years back, but teacher wanted me to be quiet near the end XD)

  • thank you so much for posting (:

we're playing this song in band..and I'm first horn and this really helped me with phrasing and how my part should sound! the horns in this are great! I just think that at some parts, they could play a LITTLE louder but that's just my opinion.

  • I play first horn on this song too...it's absolutely beautiful!

  • yes I agree :) Ticheli really likes putting lots of horn into his pieces and this is a perfect example of that. But the horn in this is really nice~would you agree that they should play a little bit louder though? (Since it's such a quiet instrument)

  • Yes, just a little bit though. Especially during Danny Boy at the end...such a powerful contrast, I just loveeeeee it!

  • I love playing this song in band. We had a scotsman come into our class today and after listening to us play it, he said we did a great job. I think that if we got a scotsman to say "good job," we did a good job. :]

  • @electricfeelsarah so true sarah from another Scot.Duncan.

  • somebody should put this on itunes

  • Do you need me to put up a link to the MP3?

  • yes please do!!!

  • I posted the link. Enjoy!

  • Love it at the end when Danny boy comes in over Loch Lomond. Two beautiful songs that Ticheli fit together just perfectly.

  • i was involved in the MACCC honor band in Northern California.

imagine a 118 piece wind ensemble playing this song.

    it. was. epic.

  • this is what i want our band to sound like :)

  • Saw Ticheli conduct this earlier today... it was wonderful. And it's so cool how perfect the loch lomond/danny boy counterpoint is.

  • I was there (Greensboro, NC) as well and couldn't agree more. I was in awe of this man's talent and enthusiasm, and feel honored that my son was able to play under him.

  • i wish we could play this one too. this year we are playing vesuvius buy frank ^_^

  • I couldn't agree more with you. He is an amazing man. I had the ability to be under his direction as well my freshman year of high school. It was truely and inspiring event.

  • Me too. I saw Hazo conduct Ride last year. As soon as I see Eric Whitacre conducting a group, I can be happy with seeing my favorite 3.

  • haha, couodn't agree more

  • great song

  • This has some Danny Boy in it? I'm confused but this song is awesome.

  • yup, ticheli stuck danny boy in there as a countermelody

  • our band is playing this too! it's amazing I love ticheli we've played at least 3 peices by him in my high school band..ya'll are right though the picc solo is great.add lots of vibrato that's what ours is doing and it sounds amazing..

  • i like the part for euphonium it is so pretty love the euphonium!
