Incase anyone is having trouble getting Smoothcam to work, you may need to export the files to Quicktime movie to convert them to an mov. file as some formats cannot be analysed by FCP, an so applying Smoothcam will do nothing
also yes using anchor point will allow you to rotate after you get your point in the right place, but anchor point is much harder to work with. center point you can drag into place anchor point you have to enter numerically.
so i shoot with my red and I was just doing a smoothcam shot and decided to see if it would be quicker to just do it myself by going into the motion tab of the clip and adjust the rotation and center point myself, and my conclusion came that when using the HD version of the clip smoothcam beat me, but at the full 4k I beat smoothcam. If you decide to do what I did make sure to correct your rotation before your center point as your center point will change when you rotate.
I like your tutorial! I seem to have a problem. The Smooth Cam effect looks wonderful on my view/canvas, but when I export it to Quick Time Movie It comes out really shaky. Once exporting is finished I open up my new Quick Time clip and its extremely shaky.... No other filters or FX's have been added to clip--just Motion Cam... Any suggestion why it becomes really corrupted and shaky after exporting?
@snuffok Not sure what's causing that - you could try sending your sequence to Motion and then use the Stabalize Behavior (Add Behavior, Motion Tracking, Stabalize), that works very well.
your tutorials really are helpful! I watched now all your final cut tutorials and it was a big help! is final cut express having this "smooth cam" effect, too? thank you so much, philippe
One little comment, with some versions of final cut, (i have 3) when you import a clip that is not in an quicktime codec, it will not apply the filter. It will not give a notice, nothing. Export it into a quicktime movie and reimport it, and it will work.
cool. doesn't work too well on skyscrapers doee

Thanks. To add to that, scale smooth is smoothing any scale that might happen from zoom in/out or shake of the camera in to out. Makes sense eh?
