Byrd was not only an extremely talented musician, but also such an awesome man. He knew how to make everyone feel special and loved - everyone!. Aff-Smif - I know you miss him terribly and always will. He will live in my heart as long as it beats.
Byrd lived next door to my family in a Nashville apartment in the late 70's/early 80's. We remained friends for several years, cant tell how many times he ate at our table (he loved my cooking!). I lost touch with him, was greatly saddened to find out about his passing.
I sat mesmerized many, many times at The Place and The Orange Peel as I tried my best to figure out how he pulled off some of those sweet licks. The Loved Ones and later The Cowcatcher were the gold standard of late sixties bands in Tennessee. Byrd made it all look so effortless. Godspeed, Byrd.

He was also a talented pilot and flight instructor. I had hm for an instructor a couple of years ago at PanAm in Memphis.
Great guy and he will be missed!
