As long as there are people who consider horses (and other animals) to be a disposable plaything, a toy, anything BUT a lifelong commitment, there will be those who will neglect or dispose of their animals at auction, not knowing or caring if a kill buyer is going to be the one who buys them. How can you put that sense of respect and lifelong commitment to the care of a horse into someone who lacks thas sensibility? When I take on an animal, it is for life.

Slaughter is not a good thing in our eyes and im sure the people who actually do the slaughter hate there job as much as we hate thr job, I have 6 horses of my own and I would be heart broken if I found out they got sent to slaughter because some of the people who give these horses to the slaughter are only in it for the money, keep in mind I did say only some... and in my eyes I do beleive they should stop it but not all horses that are sent to slaughter are alive. Learn the facts!

@johny2891 Thanks for telling me I did a good job on the video...after that I disagree with you. These starving horses are killed because they were abused, and often times after they were rescued or even before then, they are taken to auction to be sold. Many people don't want to invest in a horse that needs a lot of care so the killer buyer will take them. Horse meat is horse meat, regardles of how little or much their is.

I'm with jmpack42 on this. But you can't tell anybody anything with a closed mind. They will keep believing what they want to and it's a waist of time on your half. IMO, there needs to be a slaughter house in every state so the horses don't suffer for long distances. THAT wouldn't be cruel.

No slaughtering means an overflow of horses. This no slaughter law has made horse prices hit rock bottom and has made many suffer because they starve because people can't afford to feed them but they can't sell them either because prices are so low.

From what I understand all the bolt gun does is render the horse unconsious it does not kill, then while the horse is down it is hung by the back leg and has its throat cut. Then it dies from bleeding out. It is not Humane slaughter.. The way that they are transported is just utter torture... Its just all bad. I agree that all horses should be saved from this fate.

no, letting them run free isnt necessarily the answer. There are rescue farms out there dedicated to saving horses from slaughter. And its not why they do it, its how the do it.

I never said it was the answer! Those "rescue farms" are up to their eye balls with horses being dumped on them. Most of those "rescue farms" don't even care for those horses half the time! Those horses are dead the moment that bolt hits their head! They bleed out. They ARE dead! That twitching you see is their vessels, veins contracting. They do not suffer. Now, Mexico that's where they suffer because the US shut theirs down.

Horse rescues r full, and most of them only prelong the suffering, they dont help it, they just extend their missreably lives. and yes i am a horse owner an lover (believe me) yes i do feel terribally sorry for thoes horses but it is nessary. They should improve the trailering conditions though but they die as soon at that gun thing gets them

I will pay the cost of helping my life long friend pass to a better place when that time comes rather than live with the thought that I sent my beloved horse to slaughter where they will either be shot multiple times with a .22 or shot with a capture bolt gun and skinned alive. For you see they are not just my horses they are my parteners and friends

I have a horse at my barn that was rescued. the horse was sitting in someones garage for like a month.. and they weren't even feeding it!! I HATE the person who came up with it. its so sad. horses actually HELP A LOT of people in so many ways! no matter who they are, they can help anyone. hopefully one day we can put an end to this, but don't sit around and wait for someone else to step up to it, we all should try to do something about it.

ok, let me step on my soap box. the lack of a market to take unwanted horses is the reason people are resorting to shooting their own horses or turning them loose. with the economy the way it is there's no way to properly take care of the animals without going broke unless you were born with a silver spoon up your ass. granted, i think slaughter houses should have standards that are in the horse's interest but without them the horse market is dieing. ok stepping off my box now. nice video tho.

this happends in holland too, but i can tell you, the majority of those horses that get slaughtered here are on their last legs anyway, they have to get eutanized, so lots of horse woners rather try to sell them, then bring them to a vet and pay for eutanasing the horse, its harsh but thats how it seems to work

before anyone else comments on how the only horses that are sent to slaughter is the ones that don't have any use anymore let me just say that a few years a go, one of the remaining slaughter houses in texas began STEALING family horses from the farms. Not just the ones they got from slaughter. I am also fully aware that people do not always intend for their horses to go to slaughter. If it's just the horse thing that bothers you, then spred the word. Far too many horses are born, they are expensive to care for, many get killed, neglected, starved, abused because there aren't enough good homes. Dogs and cats are slaughtered wholesale in shelters... this is what happens to unwanted horses.

Why would you not use horses, as well as any other animal, for meat when they are no longer of any other use. Sometimes animals are no longer able to function or act in a useful manner. These are not the animals that kids are playing with, that is a picture meant to paint pictures in your mind. These are retired horses who can't do anything anymore. We might as well feed someone instead of just putting them down.
