John Bonham's groove on Whole Lotta Love (just one of MANY) moves me as much as Tony Williams does on Walkin' (just one of MANY) and Luke Flowers does the same. Donati, Greb, the Jonses, etc!....they all have their own individual things. You can imitate but never duplicate that. Comparison is futile, too unless your at a WFD competition and that has NOTHING to do with music.

heard them all they are all good..but none of them are hard rock drummers, and none have been the basis of a drumming genre, nor been so massively influential.
a drumming genre? how did bonham invent the rock style? it was around way before him. and as far as far as influencial. yeah, tony williams has been in the drumming community, and all of them can easily play rock, with proficiency. and, tony williams did multiple rock fusion albums. weckl is on countless rock style songs...and all of the drummers i listed aren't drummers of a specific genre. they have been part of scenes, but what they master is rhythm itself, and how it applies to them, not rok
on top of that, do you think bonham would be so influencial if he wasn't in zeppelin, which three quarters of the world has had drilled into their brains. of course he was going to be the best drummer in the world if the only drummers you have ever heard of are keith moon and ringo star. and then when rush came out everyone was like, "holy shit, someone who ddoesn't repeat the same thing throughout the song!"...with drummers there hasnt been too much exposure outtside the rock band community.
well, i mean, it's still drumming. first of all, if you like bonham, and relate to his sound better, i can't argue with you their nor should i. but, all im comparing is when i refer to better, is, how much more tools one has to express themselves (and i dont necesarilly mean speed...i mean phrasing, the way in which one can voice rhythms, or the idea of a rhythm in the first place). that's all i mean when i say "better". but, if you like bonzo more,its more that i think you relate to his person
i relate to all todays great drummers equally but to say bonham is overrated i dont agree with. Bonham had plenty tools of expression it just a different style a busy drummer wouldnt have suited zeppelin because of their dynamics and orchestration but did suit hendrix because they were a trio for example
yeah but drumming doesn't have to be busy to be fresh. like some of the grooves he had, im giving it to him, really fit the song. but i would have like a little bit of accent changes hear and there, a bit more syncapation. sometimes have a quick double time break, but you know, still keep it steady.
