  • btw obZen is by Meshuggah incase you didnt know

  • AMAZING List. All Hope is Gone, Conclusion of an Age, Indestructible, The Formation of Damnation, Kingdom of Sorrow, Shogun & Death Magnetic are all amazing

You have really good taste in metal!! But I do have 1 question.... why the FUCK isnt obZen in this list?

  • Comment removed

  • HELL YEAH, Now That's a REAL Best Metal Album of 08 List. Everyone else who tried this...FAIL. lol

  • Respectable list, but Gojira's and Protest the Hero's albums are a lot better than all of these (except watershed) imo.

  • wow, great presentation. and yes, i dug your list. glad you put the 'knot in when no one else would. and that amon amarth is so dam catchy, isn't it? all in all, nice change of pace from all the hair metal circulating. jolly good show...

  • according to my opinion Amon Amarth's album is the best in 2008.

  • wow can't believe metallica are on a best album list but they made a solid comeback

  • zomg...Slipknot? All That Remains? TRIVIUM?????? are you serious? Pathetic.....and Disturbed on the third place? Where is Meshuggah's obZen? Mastodon's Crack the Skye? Cynic's Traced in Air? Your list is full of pozers....(except Opeth, but not to first place...)

    This is my opinion.....

  • TestamenT:D

  • Trivium is so friggen good its orgasmic listening to their musik

  • Hypocrisy - A Taste of Extream Divinity , they will win 2009 :P

  • i beleieve that album of the year was the formation of damnanation by testament because has great songs lyrics riffs and solos

  • Most of those albums suck! What about new gojira, kamelot, deicide, equilibrium, belphegor, bloodbath, enslaved, iced earth, meshuggah, tyr, darkthrone, hate eternal, origin, and pyramaze?

  • children of bodom ftw

  • Dethklok, Megadeth, Five Finger Death Punch and Slayer are left.

Mastadon and Dethklok will be going on a tour soon after Dethkloks new album will come out.

  • Dethklok didn't release any album in 2008: "The Dethalbum" is from 2007

  • Im talking about 09

  • disturbed is metal/alternative metal/progressive metal so how can u say theyre not metal

  • 0.o ...Did you just say prog metal...

  • i did!

  • Indestructible is by far the best, then comes overcome, then comes death magnetic

  • Opeth!! Woo, amazing album.

  • Shogun, Indestructible, and Death Magnetic were the best.

    Overcome was good

All Hope is gone had a few bad songs, alot of good songs

  • lolz hey r metal alternative metal tht is! correct urself

  • slipknot are a good band as are trivium but there new albums are poor especially slipknots.and as for disturbed they have never released a good album in my view.amon amarth and c.o.b rock and the new testament album rules.

  • Yeah Amon Amarth! :)

  • I don't get involved in metal/not metal arguments- I don't care. Indestructible is a really good album, and whether or not it's metal is irrelevant.

  • Gojira was an oversight. They should be in there- not winning but in there. Same with Kolossus by Keep Of Kalessin. I'm not a 'Knot fan at all, but All Hope Is Gone is a really good record.

  • METALLICA are the best

  • Misery Signals Controller?

    Shits ALL over Trivium IMO....

Esp the new Testament album, that was so sick

  • awesome list! great vid, great bands! can't wait to see the 2009 lol, lots of good albums coming this year, especially Megadeth.

  • Finally some Bodom but in my opinion they should be ahead of slipknot and trivium, i love eluveitie even though i dont listen to them. No reason why Metallica should even be on here! Good job on Opeth. Oh and why is there 2 Amon Amarths??? I agree they deserved #1 but you have two lol

  • i dont think slipknot or trivium desrves this, there are some good new bands you dont have

  • Shogun would get in on the title track alone- I get the feeling Trivium's next album may be in the league of The Blackening. I don't like any of Slipknot's previous records but I do like All Hope Is Gone, so that's why it's in there.

Who did I miss out? I'm always open to new bands.

  • @tdrepka2 you like the new slipknot but not the old shit....no wonder half your list is so far off =/

  • bad list

the only top albums you included is opeth's and shogun....

also amon amarath is cheese viking metal which disgusts me

where the fuck is the cynic album?

  • How many of the other thirteen have you actually heard? Have you listened to the Sylosis album? Or Testament? Cos both were great records, to mention but two.

Amon Amarth is not viking metal, it's melodic death metal about vikings. Turisas are viking metal- completely different style. And Amon Amarth's riffs put Trivium in the shade.

And I didn't get the Cynic album, so I couldn't include it.

  • the testament album was average generic thrash

    nothing pioneering

amon amarath may be better at riffage but still cheesy

  • Very nicely put together video... ive got a diffrent Sylosis album :S.. The Supreme Oppresser.. is that old or sometihng.. but anyways.. good list.. i was supprised to see Black tide in there.. No In Flames.. and no Bloodbath !!. cmon Akerfeldts vocals are RETARDED in the new album.. but good stuff.. awsome prodruction quality on video.. please fill me in on how you did it:D

  • It's just windows movie maker. The tools are all in there- it's just playing around with titles and the like.

The Supreme Oppressor was an EP they did two years ago. They're not doing bad for a little band from Reading- in three weeks they support Testament!

In Flames aren't the real In Flames anymore- just like Sepultura aren't Sepultura. The new album can't hold a candle to Whoracle or The Jester Race.

I honestly don't know Bloodbath. I'll check 'em out.

  • Black Tide got in as the 'one for the future' act. That album sounded like a cross between 'Killing Is My Business' and 'Appetite for Destruction', The songs are a little simplistic and the lyrics juvenile, but I reckon they can be both huge and brilliant. And that album's not bad.

Akerfeldt's vocal's might not be in Johan Hegg's league, but his music's terrific.

  • i like your style.. and you also have great music knowledge... i put Black tide up in another video.. but then there were so many other great albums.. those kids are awsome though.. i saw them live at Mayhem Festival.. and they blew the stage away.. i just had to see a 16 year old front the stage like that INSANE.. theres one bad if you like the youngins that you should check out.. Hackneyed.. from germany.. guitarist is 14 years old.. and he RIPS>.. death metal.. in flames ur right :( dead

  • If we're talking live acts it's all about Lamb Of God and Unearth for me atm. Saw both on the Defenders Of The Faith tour at Brixton Academy (capacity ~5000), and both completely devastated that place. Unearth announced a surprise solo show at the Camden Barfly (capacity ~200) two days later. For that gig there were about 50 of us, and they let us decide what songs they played. They then came to the bar and I spent an hour or so chatting to the bassist and guitarist. Total dudes, awsome show!

  • I'll check out Hackneyed. There's so many young, good bands emerging at the moment. Check out Anterior and Malefice. Anterior are in the Killswitch mode and are from Wales. Last album 'This Age Of Silence' is awesome. Malefice are a bit Lamb Of God-esque and are brutally brilliant and, like Sylosis, are from Reading. New album 'Dawn Of Reprisal' comes out Monday and is streaming on myspace. Both bands are touring together in support of The Rotted in April in the UK- I can't wait!

  • metallica's album was fucking horrible.

  • I liked it. It's no Kill 'Em All but it's better than anything they've done since ...And Justice.

Still, I wouldn't put it in this years top 5. Top 15 yes, not top 5. And Amon Amarth blew them out of the water. Sad, really.
