you do want to drive the lead knee but dont use it to initiate the swing; thats the back legs job after the backwards C. And rowing is a very ambigious term and got me into some awful habits. By rowing it is meant that you rotate your body to the pole. The arms actually do little besides provide a solid connection to the pole from which to preform these actions.
this video is a poor example of a good vault..the last step should be a short bounce step, keep lead knee/leg up and arms exteneded..stay in the drive pocket until(you'l kno when) and swing the drag leg up with the lead leg and allow the lower elbo collapse on the same side as your legs(the chest sample is correct in this vid)..raise your hips above your head and row the pole to your back while making a T with your outer foot on the toes of your inner and rotate.. as you cross the bar, should b
she needs a wider grip its to close so it will be harder for her to bend the pole i had a problem with that this year and when i wide it up i started getting 13 and im a freshmen so ill help a lot
Also, there is never a point where anyone would need to "control the bend". The pole bends naturally because of the individuals mass and velocity regardless of whether they're pushing or not.
Yes, but that force will not be going in the direction you want it (as in up towards the bar to clear it). it will be pushing back at you (as in away from the bar). In physics Newton's 3rd law (in summary) states: every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. so if you push on the pole the pole pushes back on you. it's simple physics, pushing with your bottom arm is bad!
This drill is a terrible drill it teaches bad habits and doesn't allow the vaulter to ever reach their full potential. (That is if the goal of this drill is to push with your bottom arm and keep your leg swing down.)
for this drill, in order to keep that trail leg back, your drive knee will automatically fly away.
if you try this drill with a tighter bend in your lead knee, you'll notice that the trail leg will automatically come through a lot quicker...it's almost impossible to hold it back. so, for this example, she was doing nothing wrong...it's merely a sample of drills you CAN do if you choose to...there are always variations.
everyone is great at critisizm... because it is easy, but do you know how to compliment? this girl is not a world record holder yet, but she actually not bad at all...good luck
your getting a late plant. you should be jumping before your pole hits the back of the box. and becasue of that your hips get sucked in when you should be keeping it back. i dont think you should be bending if you cant get those steps down. your going to end up injuring yourself
Okay here we go then. The run is all wrong, the arms shouldn't be bouncing all over the place, this leads to hooking the plant as she does. On planting, her hands are back behind the head causing all energy to be put into an undesirable bottom bend, causing the pole to translate her energy into forward momentum instead of upward force. And the drive knee is just obnoxiously high. Finally, there is not a hint of the rowing motion whatsoever, which is vital to the vault
She wasn't trying to rock back due to the fact that it was a drag drill. Also, you aren't supposed to row EVER in pole vault. Everything else you said is completely one the mark. Lastly, it is stupid to do drag drills like that because they get you into bad habits.
you don't want to pull up with the leed knee, that gets the vaulter into a bad habbit or starting the swing with the knee which slows the vaulters swing down more.

idk i think if your pushing your gonna have some factor of force pushing on the pole.

you're supposed to drive off your jumping foot, and drive off the other one. they come back together later in the vault though

if you're going to criticize, then give constructive criticizm (misspelled??), dont just tell her what she did wrong. tell her how to do it right.
