This movie is one of the saddest stories I have ever seen. The whole thing just infuriates me, because despite the obvious things that are unlikely to happen, the premise itself is completely believable: An otherwise nice girl being tormented every day by everyone in the school, a nutcase for a mother, and the one final push which ends in a bloodbath. You can't treat people like this for long and not expect something awful to happen. I actually become angry when I watch this movie.
@patches7034 Her name is Sue, she was trying to help Carrie, she felt bad for what she did. Tommy is actually Sue's Boyfriend, and she wanted Tommy to ask Carrie because she felt bad. Sue survived because luckily, the teacher kicked her out.
This makes me want to fucking cry my ass off. This whole movie is so heartbreaking, and Sissy Spacek did it PERFECTLY. Seeing her so happy after all the shit she's been through, and then they just have to push her even farther. I'm glad she killed them all. Very. Glad. This is my ultimate anger / revenge movie.
if you've read the book and stuff and look more closely into the film. Tommy was not laughing, when the blood went all over her, you could see tommy shouted 'WHAT THE HELL?!' and also tommy falls in love with carrie during this scene and then gets hit over the head with the bucket.
Tommy and the other girl who got thrown out of the gym by the teacher were the only ones that felt sorry for Carrie; so Tommy decided to take her to prom. Sad that Tommy was the first one to die in that scene because the bucket fell on his head. The other girl (who got thrown out of the gym and I dont know her name) was the only one that survived in that scene.
I don't think she meant to kill Tommy...if you notice the part when he gets struck my the bucket...she leans down as if she is really concerned....She starts a fire....he burns in it....regardless if the bucket killed him or not....poor Carrie....I love this scene...so romantic and sweet..it makes me tear...
This is the most beautiful scene out of the whole movie. I really don't understand why they had Carrie and Tommy die. Carrie, may have killed all those people but most of them deserved it. In the book it was revenge, but in the movie it seemed to be like she was insane at that moment. Overall she was innocent and shouldn't have died. Tommy didn't do anything so it makes me wonder why Carrie let him die in the fire. He was one of the few people that cared for her.
Awwww :') but than , I feel bad for her! I just do not understand why they wanted to break her down so bad ? ! And at least let her have just one night in peace. And if her mom could just have been normal. Than try to kill her. Geez, poor Carrie.
I remember this song the first time I heard it in the movie. Loved it. I finally got a copy years ago but this took me back. The words can be about anyone.
Thank you so very much for posting this scene with this hauntingly romantic song. After all these many years I have never forgotten it, but couldn't find it anywhere.
DePalma was still making good movies at this time. He captured Carrie's terror-being at the prom and ours that something ungodly was about to take place.
He basically wasted no screentime, but actually doubled the amount of terror from this point forward. One of my favorite horror films ever, dealing with the most real monsters ever-at an American high school.
I saw an interview on AMC around halloween about this movie, and this scene in specific. Sissy Spacek was amazing in her role as Carrie, as were the supporting cast. The song was also perfect for the scene. That movie was way ahead of it's time.
This is my Favorite Part of the whole Movie. I always cry at this part cause I know exactly what she is feeling. Sometimes I wish the movie would end right after this. =)
This movie made me so sad. I cried at how Carrie was basically tortured by everyone. This scene makes me so happy, just looking at how happy they are.
Sissy Spacek was so beautiful here , and a great actor ,one of my favorites .
I read somewhere that she originally tried out for the role of "Chris" (Nancy Allen's part) as an actor i could see her playing it well, but i'm glad she got the lead , much more depth , and Piper Laurie was just brilliant as usual .
-William Katt reminds me of my high school crush , he looked exactly like him , same surfer blond long hair ....
No film has haunted and still haunts me like Carrie. It was well crafted and got a strong message across. I am a better person because of it. Apart from that, I can't begin to tell how much I love this song.
I saw Carrie when i was 10 and i thought that movie was the best movie in the 70s it gose down in the top movies i saw when i was just a kid next to Jaws and The Excorcist, takes me back when the family will go out to the Drive Inn movies and It was Great I miss that ...
This is the best part of the movie. This to me is the sweetest revenge for Carrie although a lot of people would rather see all her enemies die. When I first saw this movie at 11 years old, it was extremely creepy and scary.
Classice scene - classic movie - one of the best ever!!! Now that I'm 42 it appeals to me in different ways than when I was 12 (how did they keep this movie from me for 4 years from '76 to 1980?) The mother creeped me out then and now (brilliant performance) and Carrie is so sweet and innocent - I feel so sad for her now. And the ending scared the crap out of me the first time!
i saw the movie in 76... the part that i liked best was the ending.. soooo cuutteee.... lol!!!!!!!! i had the ost in a 45 rpm... if i remember it right travolta appeared as an extra actor...
This scene was perfect. The sweetness and the song are innocent and beautiful, followed by the worst feelings of betrayal and humiliation on film. It was an emotional roller coaster I've never recovered from...A Classic!
I like the spinning effect in this scene. I think it was supposed to show how fluttery and dizzy this moment made Carry feel, because she was probably nervous and didn't believe this was all happening for her. It was so beautifully and romantically made. I get swooned by it every time I see it.
I like I Never Dreamed Someone Like You Could Love Someone Like Me in this key. Great song, and the moment that seemed to be the greatest in the movie for everyone, including Carrie
I think this has got to be the most incredibly romantic thing I've ever seen. It makes me cry ever time I see it. How tragic it turns out though. This is just so beautiful.
Tommy and Carrie falling in love and ending up together I think is a blessing! It's like my dream about him coming true. I would've wish and hoped that Sue would found somebody better who she'd like more. And Tommy and I would have each other
I just saw this movie on tv last night with closed captions. Just amazing how my whole perspective on this movie changed in one night. Last time I saw it was like... eons ago. I used to think Carrie was a demon spawn... That the "popular kids" were innocent. Boy, did I get it wrong!
Found this clip here... And here's a proof how magical this video is - I'm deaf and I'd still watch it w/o the captions because it doesn't need any words. It's a very moving scene.
Glad you came to realize who the victim of the story really was:) It's really ironic though how she does kill them but it was out of the insane rage of all they did to her...it was a mass murder that the "popular kids"brought on themselves......Not that I'm saying stuff like school shootings are Just.
Sometimes I watch films with the sound off to see how strong the screenplay itself is. I haven't with this one, but I'm sure it holds up without the sound though.
@lizbethsr08 I love this romantic dance scene! I love it when he says "no harm, no foul" too. And omg I love it when he says: "Carrie, we're here...and we're together... and I like it. Yeah I do.. I LIKE IT! " and he laughs. Omg, I love it! He's so gorgeous and confident! Carrie's sweet and sooo loveable... I wish that night could have ended differently.
yes so true...amazing how being an adult changes our point of view of things.....when i saw it as a child it creeped me out, now i feel sorry for her and am actually glad she got her revenge.
i totally agree w/you however all of Stephen Kings "horror" movies are so tragically sad.... I guess that's what makes such good horror is that you care so much for the characters .
Same with me.This film made me cry,(and the book a little too I think) I really felt for Carrie and her pain. While this movie did have it's scary moments I truly find this story to be just as much
a tragedy as it is a horror and in a way I'm happy for her that she got her revenge.
Tommy and Carrie falling in love with each other is a very positive sign to me. I see it just the same as him falling for me I would be wishing and hoping that Sue would find & fall in love with someone better than Tommy and Tommy would fall for me! That would be great
In her mind she thought they all were "all" laughing at her...she snapped. Only SOme deserved to die...I always wanted it to have a happy ending.. :( it came out when I was 16
such a romantic scene!! the best ever ... why could not have been this way? why could not finish with them together and happy in the happily ever after ?? everyone deserves another chance!!
Yeah seriously! If it wasn't for Chris ruining it and Carrie starting the fire Tommy and her would have ended up happy together! That was sad how that bad stuff had to happen
in case people were looking for the song its called never dreamed of someone like you by katie irving (sorry if i got the name wrong but i know its by katie irving.) and katie irving is amy irving's (sue's) siter.
good movie , the scene with the pig blood very Frightening, we can all relate to carrie if we have been teased and tormented , this was cruel thing did to carrie, and if i ha d powers like she had might have done the same thing, sissy spacek was brilliant in this , Tommy was actually falling for carrie i think which was sad
Tommy DIDN'T die in the fire! It is never EVER mentioned that he died in the fire. The group of students carrying him (he was dead, because when the bucket hits him he dies in the book) must have gotten him out through the fire doors (Carrie did NOT close the fire doors) and they realised he was dead. Sue says in the sequel that "...a few of us survived". Those "few" might have been the students carrying Tommy.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
she could've at least lived with it and grow to have been a great person with a great job but instead she chose to take advantage of her "powers". She didnt have to torture them.
She didn't choose to take advantage of any powers. She had been smacked around at school and at home for years on end, and just got pushed too far. She wasn't even aware of the depth of her telekinesis, just knew something was different about herself. It intrigued her, and scared her as well. And the one night when she thought all was well, they pulled one last stunt which emotionally broke her. That was pure rage coming out; she was no longer in control. It's a very sad story.
I believe any girl could look alot better if they had taken better care of themselves. The Carrie before the prom looks unkept, and appears to be wearing rags lol.
It would have been nice if Carrie and her date would have lived and became a loving couple!!!

Saw this movie when i was nine, thought it was creepy then. Now that iam older I think its one of the saddest movies i have ever seen.

yes so true...amazing how being an adult changes our point of view of things.....when i saw it as a child it creeped me out, now i feel sorry for her and am actually glad she got her revenge.

i totally agree w/you however all of Stephen Kings "horror" movies are so tragically sad.... I guess that's what makes such good horror is that you care so much for the characters .
dragonmanlv 2 years ago 7
Same with me.This film made me cry,(and the book a little too I think) I really felt for Carrie and her pain. While this movie did have it's scary moments I truly find this story to be just as much
a tragedy as it is a horror and in a way I'm happy for her that she got her revenge.

Tommy and Carrie falling in love with each other is a very positive sign to me. I see it just the same as him falling for me I would be wishing and hoping that Sue would find & fall in love with someone better than Tommy and Tommy would fall for me! That would be great

Hi Varcaturo8376. Yes, William Katt was the protagonist of "The Greatest American Hero" in wich he played Ralph Hinkley, between 1981 and 1986.

Diversi anni dopo. "Carrie" è del '76, mentre Ralph... è dei primi anni 80.

such a romantic scene!! the best ever ... why could not have been this way? why could not finish with them together and happy in the happily ever after ?? everyone deserves another chance!!
danylively 3 years ago
Yeah seriously! If it wasn't for Chris ruining it and Carrie starting the fire Tommy and her would have ended up happy together! That was sad how that bad stuff had to happen

good movie , the scene with the pig blood very Frightening, we can all relate to carrie if we have been teased and tormented , this was cruel thing did to carrie, and if i ha d powers like she had might have done the same thing, sissy spacek was brilliant in this , Tommy was actually falling for carrie i think which was sad
licklolly35 3 years ago
Tommy DIDN'T die in the fire! It is never EVER mentioned that he died in the fire. The group of students carrying him (he was dead, because when the bucket hits him he dies in the book) must have gotten him out through the fire doors (Carrie did NOT close the fire doors) and they realised he was dead. Sue says in the sequel that "...a few of us survived". Those "few" might have been the students carrying Tommy.

she could've at least lived with it and grow to have been a great person with a great job but instead she chose to take advantage of her "powers". She didnt have to torture them.
Valena4right 3 years ago
@Valena4right
She didn't choose to take advantage of any powers.

@5jerry1 I like the way you explained Carrie's powers.....people are pushed to the emotional point of no return everyday.

my favourite scene and my favourite song
adista4 3 years ago 2
I Absolutly Love This Movie But The Sad Thing Is That Similar Stuff Happens Like This All The Time Minus The Telekinesis Lol
SkeetSkeet113 3 years ago
I do agree; this scene was by far my favorite. It humanized the whole horror element of the story. One of my favorite kisses in movie history.

I believe any girl could look alot better if they had taken better care of themselves. The Carrie before the prom looks unkept, and appears to be wearing rags lol.
