When you buy a Zo6 or a Zr1, they can set lap records, but you've got to hang in there with them, just like a race car. And the Corvette is far out of league for this Camaro in just about anything.

@cb7pwn It actually is quite a bit (without force feeding) even nowadays, but companies like Chevy and Cadillac (GM in general) get high hp outputs the wussy way, by supercharging. The Camaro Zl1, Corvette Zr1, and Cadillac CTS-V are just the normal cars with some fine tuning and a supercharger, how inventive. A supercharger should be an absolute last resort for performance. That is why personally for me, Dodge>Chevy all the way. Dodge has never supercharged a car stock, never.

@cb7pwn well that is true in some cases, but there is also something to understand (that I did not know until recently). Imported makes, mainly Japanese and German, are known for doing almost everything possible to their cars before making it out of the factory. By that I mean they forcefeed and mod the cars so much with little to no room for improvement if the driver wanted. US cars are known for having lots of room for improvement. So what you get stock can be easily made into a muscle machine
@ud0ntkn0w ummmm, not necessarily, japanese motors are still capable of WAY higher output from aftermarket components compared with domestic vehicles.
@cb7pwn well that's true on the more basic cars, like hondas, toyotas, subarus, etc; but not when you go up high like a Lexus ISF or LFA and higher end Jap cars like that, there's not much more you can do to them without having to mod the whole engine differently. American cars on the other hand are much more capable of that, anything from a 4 cylinder Cobalt to a v12 Viper. Also keep in mind that Euro makes like Ferrari have small displacements but pack v10s and v12s on pretty much everything.
@cb7pwn But the american cars kill the others in torque. You have a small high revving motor and yes, it makes alot of horsepower, but no torque. The larger displacement does not equate to horsepower, only torque. The faster you spin any engine, the more horsepower and less torque it makes. That's why. As for supercharging, GM's recipe for their cars has always been V8 power, anything else would upset the purists like me. There are countless ways to get power from countless engine configurations

Try 5-8yrs and up to 100K miles even on their "supercars". But a DOHC would be nice at this point.
True.. But back to the DOHC argument. Why wouldn't they move forth with building DOHC engines?? Are they too close to their LS-series motors? Yeah, they're cheaper, but they need to phase the LS's old-school push-rod technology out.. Throwing a DOHC V8 into GM's products would be expensive at first, but eventually would pay off in the long-run as we've seen with FoMoCo's success...

GM and the DOHC? You'd have to ask GM why they dropped the Northstar Engine. With Cadillac and needing to keep the Corvette "up to date", the Northstar Engine would be key.

Call me dumb, call me naive, whatever... but is that the actual paint job? I've seen "spy photos" of other cars when they're being put through R&D testing and they have paint and covers kind of similar to that Camaro's.
I like the paint job, personally. I was just sort of taken back by the idea that Chevy would think outside of a box.

@a5kylar Still. Muscle car's have been stereotyped as having huge displacement, and I understand being economical and whatnot but chevy is producing cars with huge displacement. The camaro's all have 6.2s, the vette's as well, the z06 has a 7.0L... Ford is taking the smaller displacement/supercharger route. Which is I guess effecient but not really what the Mustangs started out as. Or and muscle car with a history rather.

And if you really want to get into an argument about that, name one non blown motor that ford has that outperforms the LS7 ? none. Supercharged ford motor that outperforms the LS9/LSA? none. its funny, gt500/z06 are around the same price and the z06 waxes the 500s w/o a blower all motor. USING OLDER TECHNOLOGY ;)

@cb7pwn It actually is quite a bit (without force feeding) even nowadays, but companies like Chevy and Cadillac (GM in general) get high hp outputs the wussy way, by supercharging. The Camaro Zl1, Corvette Zr1, and Cadillac CTS-V are just the normal cars with some fine tuning and a supercharger, how inventive. A supercharger should be an absolute last resort for performance. That is why personally for me, Dodge>Chevy all the way. Dodge has never supercharged a car stock, never.

@ud0ntkn0w big deal if the cars are supercharged...if it were a vehicle some tuner supercharged, it'd be all okay...but because a manufacturer supercharges a few...3 vehicles...its wrong...well...ford supercharges vehicles...SVT...and Dodge didn't need to supercharge a 8 liter V10...but let me put this into perspective...superchargers are positive displacement adders...the 6.2 LS9 has a 2.3L S/C...meaning the car has 8.5L to play with...seems fair to me...and they sound fucking awesome

@cb7pwn well that is true in some cases, but there is also something to understand (that I did not know until recently). Imported makes, mainly Japanese and German, are known for doing almost everything possible to their cars before making it out of the factory. By that I mean they forcefeed and mod the cars so much with little to no room for improvement if the driver wanted. US cars are known for having lots of room for improvement. So what you get stock can be easily made into a muscle machine

@cb7pwn well that's true on the more basic cars, like hondas, toyotas, subarus, etc; but not when you go up high like a Lexus ISF or LFA and higher end Jap cars like that, there's not much more you can do to them without having to mod the whole engine differently. American cars on the other hand are much more capable of that, anything from a 4 cylinder Cobalt to a v12 Viper. Also keep in mind that Euro makes like Ferrari have small displacements but pack v10s and v12s on pretty much everything.

@cb7pwn But the american cars kill the others in torque. You have a small high revving motor and yes, it makes alot of horsepower, but no torque. The larger displacement does not equate to horsepower, only torque. The faster you spin any engine, the more horsepower and less torque it makes. That's why. As for supercharging, GM's recipe for their cars has always been V8 power, anything else would upset the purists like me. There are countless ways to get power from countless engine configurations

That car is all bite, and no bark...If GM is looking to become a better competitor, they need to step it up, and mass-produce a DOHC engine.. The push-rod V8 is obsolete!!! The LT-5 was AMAZING, but you ditched it because of expense! Expense would drop if you would increase demand! It kills me.. This is why Ford will stay ahead, and GM will continue to build it's deficit..

@Sarcasticscum You forget that it factory. No factory builds a car to the mechanic limits except those extremely expensive and rare exotic car makers loving rolling 12 cars a year or so. SLP and Hennessy, who have no such limits, will knock out 600-1000+ crank hp without thinking about it. But they have to supply their own warranties and they are 3 yrs/30k miles. GM? Try 5-8yrs and up to 100K miles even on their "supercars". But a DOHC would be nice at this point.

True.. But back to the DOHC argument. Why wouldn't they move forth with building DOHC engines?? Are they too close to their LS-series motors? Yeah, they're cheaper, but they need to phase the LS's old-school push-rod technology out.. Throwing a DOHC V8 into GM's products would be expensive at first, but eventually would pay off in the long-run as we've seen with FoMoCo's success...

GM and the DOHC? You'd have to ask GM why they dropped the Northstar Engine. With Cadillac and needing to keep the Corvette "up to date", the Northstar Engine would be key.
But GM is a different company with a different mentality. I'm sure they will come around, ever if they never originally needed to with the Northstar.
