I've always loved this. Is it some kind of regional disco style? Chicago radio would never go near a record this hip, just low rank Jeff Tweedy, Smashed Pumpkin, Studs Terklish, OKGOy, gobnob sad geek music.
I don't know about that, XRT turned me on to The Nightfly, namely New Frontier (which is possibly one of my favorite songs of all time), and they will play Babylon Sisters from time-to-time, but they have turned to a Jack Johnson vs. Wilco vs. Norah Jones format, with the occasional Arcade Fire and Decemberists.
Reminds me of the good old days, my dad and I bought his album from Donald himself after his performance at a hotel lobby in Boston about 10 years back. I was only 10y.o back then, and today, we still listen to this album more frequently than occasional. Its good to know we've made it pretty well through a decade with his songs which remedies the tension between both my dad and I.
@micahwelner well... we do not have to compare them, if you do not want to.
It is just that... everybody on this page seems to be so stoked on Donald Fagen. And yes, I do realize this song is by him.
I enjoyed more than a few, but fewer than several, tracks of the whack. I lost my 11 Tracks of Whack CD, but I am not losing any sleep about the loss. Sort of the same meh feeling when I misplaced my Natalie Merchant CD. It did bother me though , when I had to go looking for my Kamakiriad CD.
Thanks Pablorecords for making my day. This song is so warm and upbeat. Great way to start the day. Do you have snow bound and if so...are you going to be posting it soon? snow bound is a great groove. Peace.
The horn arrangement/fill-ins are worth the price of admission alone!

One of my favourite songs period. Is that Bernard Purdie on drums?
