En l'an 2237, des archivistes viendront analyser les vestiges de notre civilisation. it's amazing how far the tentacle's of frank turner stretch, would never have heard this if it was'nt for him, frank, you keep pullin them outta the bag, plz dont stop !!
wow. Only 30k views. That really sucks. If one of them got kicked in the crotch they'd be at 300k i bet. Just completely not fair for such amazing music.
I am an agnostic yet I asked for this album three Christmases ago because the review in Mojo praised it to Heaven. I hardly ever listen to it but when I do I get the feeling that it is timeless and somehow important.
Someone tell me more about this group. They have a slightly druggie/out there look to them, but from what I've read they claim Christianity. Their lyrics seemed sound...
Josh Pearson is the son of a preacher man, but from what I gather he was kicked out of the church. His lyrics overflow with christian mysticism & imagery, wrestling with with God, banishment & fights between angels & devils. I don't know wether he considers himself a christian but he definitely sings more truthfully, honest songs about his experience of God than a lot of the crap we get fed by evangelical bands! Totally inspiring & relevant, I think he's a genius & I kinda envy his beard!
Unfortunately the band split in 2003 (?) and the only member I am now aware of is Josh Pearson who has been touring Europe (allegedly living in Germany for the last couple of years). He recently performed in the UK to mixed reviews. The other members are Josh Browning and Andy Young.
For reasons I don't understand the band were only ever popular in Texas (mainly Fort Worth) and the UK.
I would urge you to buy the album. Even a dyed-in-the-wool atheist like myself was moved by its passion.
The band were part of a upsurge of alternative rock music based in Texas that reached its peak in the late nineties, early noughties. Very much influenced by Christianity (like their more folky counterparts 16 Horsepower), they realeased the album the Texas/Jerusalem Crossroads in 2001 (UK). As concept albums go, it rivals King Crimson or Van Der Graaf Generator for both lyrics and musicianship.
This was pushed in the rock press as some kind of SCIFI concept LP, but I think He believes every word of this thing (it's a double LP). As far as it being "Christian" well yes it is, in a hallucinatory visionary way. Whether he's got the specifics right, if you want an apocalyptic vision that kicks ass and raises the hair on the back of your neck, this be it.
Artists explore the death of the spirit in their own poetic realm, whether it's in the streets of New York with Bowie, Vietnam with Copolla, or a London bedsit with Drake.
Dreams, nightmares, and visions, are inarticulate. Symbols are the sign language of the soul.
a friend showed me lift to experience, and this was after listening to explosions in the sky. i think it's safe to say that explosions totally rips off LTE with their music.
wow, what can i say....just the best. it stirs me like no other...it takes me back to the time i heard Slint 'Spiderland' for the first time. goodnight, captain....i'll miss you.....

Good sounds from Bella Union and Simon Raymonde, but the real message is - GROW FACIAL HAIR, IT'S GROOVY. I know I will.

Never mind Matt, I just found out it's recent. I like it even if it is crazy Christian Apocalyptic.

Even if it is christian so what? Some of the best music ever composed is inspired by religious sentiment.
