The reason is so if you go the max speed on the car the speedometer will stop and look kind of lame and depending on the conditions you might be going 1km/h faster then the max and it cant show it so for more accuracy they make it way higher then the cars max speed. Just like how trucks and big cars have speedometers that go up to 140mph or 160mph but even if you tried you can hardly get to 100mph. So its just for looks and more accuracy. Hope this helps.
