It is obvious, that the Yorubas are not oganize like the Benins to these days, this lady's stroy has nothing to do with pride, back in historic any any powerful nation could fall for the other at a particular time. so i wonder what paranoid the Yorubas here.
@wbrogers93 We all come from God, we are all children of Abraham, however their are some ignorant tribes who try to change the cause of history, by claiming that they beamed down from the sky.
They all know that they are descendants of the Benin ppl. Be proud of who you are and where you originate from. "BENINU", as mentioned in Nehemiah 10:13 was a LEVITE!!
Why are yall aruing like little children... I am EDO, and yoruba. and from my understanding we both came from the same village. then we spilt and went our seperate ways. edos and yorubas are the most linked tribes in nigeria
HELLO everybody, i have a question, I know that the official language of Benin is France, dus that mean every Benig citizens speaks de France Language?
idiot , you are confuse. and ignorant, they are talking about the old benin emipre, which is in nigeria in benin city and not benin as a country in west africa. the real benin kingdow exist in benincity nigeriai
you fools are stil sleeping the accient egyptians are the africans from all corners of africa the accient egyptians are th africans the firt kingdom and people started in the nile vally all africans come from that area stupid dont listen to white history the are liars!!!!!!
....And just for the record, the title of Oba in Benin is inherited. It can not be purchase like a commodity on eBay as in some tribes I care not to mention! Long live the Oba Benin, long live the truth of the Benin Culture, Customs and Traditions!
I love Benin art, culture, etc. Yet you and this Omo are arguing rediculously among one another. This is a prime example of the problem in Africa and her diaspora. True tribe is highly important but as the world is today tribe is not the most important. There are entities looking at each tribe, culture, religion, custom, and tradition of Africa and working out ways to destroy them or use our own animosities to allow for us to destroy ourselves. Let this arguing go, especially public forum. Plz!
I love the African culture, I hate that I had to be part of a slave trade in order to be a citizen in the US. I would love to have known my people in Africa. I love watching the movies
I would have love to have natural language but hey can't prevent what happen in the past which why I don't understand why black people bash Ebonics, creole, & Gala language(accent)... We should be embracing it but black people get so caught up into what white have to say about us to the point its pathetic! Because someone has a subculture within a another doesn't mean they are dumb or stupid... I wish my people would wake up!
I agree totally, we as black think that since we were born in America that we are the same but we are not they call us minority also, I am proud of any new language we come up wit because they cant beat nothing out of us now
When you read the bible, it mentions Benin in Nehemiah, you see many names that reflect on our culture to this very day. Yoruba is not mentioned in the bible, and Benin is a common surname amongst the Jews!
Unlike some tribes, are roots can be traced long before Ile Ife existed right back to Israel.
Please go back to your tribe, as you are starting to bore me.
If you want to read about yoruba culture it is here on youtube. And you'll be surprised that there's more information from diaspora thanfrom Nigeria herself.. who knows about binis only you people. Oyo do not stand as a tribe but a state it is Yoruba tribe.. e.g Hausa tribe, Igbo tribe NOT kaduna tribe or sokoto tribe nor Enugu tribe Nnewi tribe ...ok u need some schooling?
If the Yoba's culture & yes I repeat YOBA's culture is here on youtube, then why dont you just fuck off & represent ur culture? You tell me the meaning of Lagos, obviously you did not read my definition a few days ago and again in the previous months. Even if a DNA test was presented to you from all scientists from around the world to confirm my findings, you'll will try and come up with a new twist. Your just a joke, I thought "Basket Mouth" was the funniest man in Naija! Pls leave us alone!
I can't fuck off as long as you posted vidz here for all youtubers, you have to fuck off by pulling off ur misleading baseless information. You don't even know ur own history. No need talking to a dumbass. "Leave us alone" as if I started bullshit story here... You stop cheap propaganda of ur tiny tribe that has no artefact dated to back up ur claim of existency. If what you claim is true Nigeria should be next to Egypt in civilization.. WHAT A BOLONEY! DITTO
Do you not have a life or wife to attend to? If you are a TRUE Yoba, yes Yoba, you would be outside the Manchester museum, the Britsh museum and more importantly in Benin City chatting your shit for all to hear. But your not, which is why I told you to fuck off, after all these comments your making, it wouldn't surprise me if you was an Ijebu. When the Europeans came to Africa in the 15th centuries they communicated with the Oba of Benin! Diaries were noted down about r traditions & not Yoba's!
Try not to judge the worth of your people by the fact that whites interacted with them and wrote the information down. For, one, they did that with many people. They have written how they choose the 'savage' who is, as they worded it, more subserviant, than the others to communicate with before they either enslave them or annihliate them.
Yoruba race and religion has influenced people's ideas of Africa for many years especially for those in the diaspora. Yoruba's have been seen as a strong proud Nation of people. There are entities looking at each tribe, culture, religion, custom, and tradition of Africa and working out ways to destroy them or use our own animosities to allow for us to destroy ourselves. Let this arguing go, especially public forum. Plz!
I see your point celamaga, but do you see mine? Once the Benin man and the Yoruba man enter the western world, you ARE the same man! It is important to hold on to and remember traditions, heritage, and customs, but Africans from every aspect of the the term should be mindful that we are still one. And work together for the good of the people.
You tell me that the Gas from Ghana are descendants of the Yoruba tribe too. Something we as Nigerians have already known from the begining of time. Maybe you are not aware of the fact that the Ashanti tribe migrated from Somalia thousands of years ago to Ghana, the 1st blacks to settle in Suriname were also from Ghana, in Jamaica, St Elizabeth you have a place called ACCOMPONG. Evidence of the Ashanti existence is still celebrated there till this day in Kudjoe/Nana's name!
I don't understand why the Binis are rewriting the history falsely. We all are decendants of Oduduwa, they've forgotten the meaning of their name, the rebellious yorubas that exile themselves were called omo Ibinu. Bini came fron Binu, same as in PortNovo those that left thru war were also called binu hence they speak yoruba. Why do Binis have yoruba words in their language why do they bear yoruba names why do Itsekiri (Warri) speak yoruba? It shows where we all came from except North.
I say stop referencing the foriegn histories. Visit the babalawo of Ife and Benin City and ask them to recite the Odu Ifa that speak to the foundation of humanity, the progenitors of each kingdom and the source of all existence. No question will remain.
Don't mind Bini people even in history at schools they thought that Bini was founded by one of Oduuwa children that left out of anger. Those Binu people are really angry people, they are so dubious cunny just as their fore fathers did. (rebels)
Not only were Benin people rebels, but we were also Great Warriors my friend. Something you forgot to mention like so many other important facts.
I'm assuming that through fraustration you've been desperately seeking the truth on your part of history in confirming what your forefathers have told you, and you will always end up at either Dahomey or the Benin Kingdom no matter where you turn! As 1+1=2 in your case it will always be any other number that simply does not add up!
You're no great warriors which of ur warriors are known, Yporuba GREAT warriors are known all over Sango and Ogun they were later turned to deities for their greatness, do u know the catholic attributed him to St. Barbara? Ask Yoruba in Dahomey where they came from they'll tell you they are from Nigeria Oyo State because they fled to Dahomey when war broke out in old Oyo kingdom. Our history were not dated by white men figures 'cause they use citation of Cosmic changes also trees planted et.c
General Isidahomen was a great warrior during the time of the Benin Empire.
Who was responsible for the slave trade? It was the past Oba's of Benin, who traded on greed with the Europeans. When people settled in Ecko now known as Lagos, a local dialect was formed in the same way the Ijebu's have their dialect. By the way who did the Oyo empire have war with. Please don't mention the Punitive Expedition. The British were less numbers than Nigeria & enslaved us the Benin did also to its ppl!
No one mention British could it be the conscience, they actually made bini abhor us because they were interested in stealing all ur Bronze whereby causing confusion. Ever before the British , Portuguese were before them the Arabs were taking us slavery Eko is a later story because it was a small Island for fishermen who came by boats later the General merchants started trading by barter came Portuguese thru Badagry Port to trade too. Oyo had war between themselves hence Old Oyo now splitted.
As you said it, Oyo had war between themselves the perfect receipe for self destruction! You never heard of the Benin Empire having war amongst themselves but against others. You mention Portugal but forget Spain, when you go their you see evidence of the Benin link between Spain and Portugal.
As your own tribe had war against each other, they inherit a rift/feud that will last forever and I'm sure both will deny who comes from where 1st.
The only reputation of Binis in Spain is prostitution.... Pls STFU ... The argument is getting funny... Portugal don't even recognise what is Bini they know much about Guinea Bissau their colony. Portuguese gave Eko its name Lagos and it's yoruba state now. I bet u don't even know the meaning of Lagos .. well let me tell u.. it means Lagoon area.
Do you not have a dedicated website on youtube for your peoples? I've been searching, and have found nothing as in depth as the Benin Kingdom. To think you call us small tribe, your women love us, cos we are real fucking men!. As big as your tribe are, you cant even attract as much hits as we Bendalites/Edo's attract on youtube. Keep sending me replies, I will ignore them as you are just a bitter man, who can't accept the truth that we are ur UNCLES!
@fizi247 wrong search for oyo empire on wikipedia and then scroll down to slave trade.. it is a well know fact among edo's that "the oba never allowed any one of his people or subjects to be taken away as slaves". In light of this same loyal and jealous protection of his people and kingdom that caused the rift between another proud kingdom the british that led to the infamous expendition of britain in 1897
@blingg247 So Mr Blingg, based on your figures & theory, slavery took place after the "Punitive Expedition" in 1897, during the time when the Oba's palace was burnt down to the ground.
You said that I must do my research, but most ppl in this forum have heard of "Olaudah Equiano" a Nigerian slave born 1745-1797 sent to Britain. Please do your maths, as slavery started over 400 years long b4 1897 my brother!!!!!
Happy New Year to you and everyone in tune to the "History Of Benin"
@fizi247 you obviously misunderstand me, slavery was abolished in 1807 in the western world, so even long before it was abolished in the western world people all over the world were already aware how wrong it was expect for the white people that started itwith their brutaity and were profiting from it, so i could not have thought slavery was still taking place in 1897. I used the word colonise, not slavery.
@blingg247 Many factors can be taken into consideration in relations to slavery, such as tribal warfare and colonisation. Rather than just kill of other tribes during warfare, it may of been beneficial for the Oba at the time to trade them with Europeans in exchange for goods whilst securing the territories that they have just colonised. You say that I have misunderstood your comment in which I replied my brother, but you have just removed the same comment for all to see.
@fizi247 maybe some other smaller tribes at the time or from other african countries did. But quote this anywhere, the then oba's of benin never dealed on slavery with the europeans and it's a well know fact on all other forums.
@fizi247 It is also obvious that Portougese and spain before saw the benin kingdom as equal to theirs, and for this same reason the benin lkingdom sent ambasadors to portugal. But is common knowledge that in the past the british saw every other culture as inferior to theirs including fellow european culture, only until recently do they see everyone as equal.
@fizi247 Do your resarch the british knew the only way of colonising the whole of nigeria was to dislogde the oba of benin whom would not allow anyone to enslave his people or his subject, because for the edo's the white man was not new to them, they have been doing business with the portugese and dealing with them on equal terms for centuries and so where not used to the ideas of the british passing down orders to the kingdom as was the case of the british intervention in nigeria.
@blingg247 Please Mr Blingg247, slow down. With regards, to your above comments, please elaborate & quote me word for word on any direct comments I have made in the past to your responses. I am fully aware of the Spanish & Portuguese being the 1st Europeans to set foot in the Benin Kingdom. Your correct, when you state that the Oba refused to sell his ppl to the Europeans, infact the Europeans were driven out of the Benin Kingdom by the Oba once these proposals were made.
@fizi247 you said in your past comment and i quote "Who was responsible for the slave trade? It was the past Oba's of Benin, who traded on greed with the Europeans." what is the meaning of this? maybe i mis understand you, please explain.
@blingg247 Thank you! I fully appreciate your reply & I will back my comment. Whilst I can not specifically state which Oba would've been involved in the trading of slaves to Europeans, I can confirm that the Oba who was eventually in favour of slavery, was going against the traditions, customs & culture of his predecessors. When Merchants would travel from Europe, the Oba would see floating Palaces on sea, with weapons & other goods to trade in exchange for other goods with the Benin Kingdom
@fizi247 And where did you read that the only goods they europeans wanted from africa then was slaves? youtube will not allow links, i would have sent you a link to a site with list of good mainly traded then, from ivory, to pepper, tobacco e.t.c which the oba's and benin obviously had loads of. But I have never read it anywhere else where any oba was in favour of dealing on slavery. So watch what you say brother!!! because it can come around and hunt you.
@blingg247 Look my friend, I was replying to your question in relation to "Greed, Oba & Slavery". Do not get it twisted. I'm fully aware that the Oba of Benin traded in various commodities, just like everyone else on this forum. I will conclude this diccussion, as it seems we are diverting from the main issue!!! Good bye
@fizi247 well, we might have diverted from the main issue. But we have cleared the air on other sensitive issues, history is a harsh area to delve into, well that is what it is. I don't like distortion of fact and most other people that would come on this forum would accept it. Well good bye and Happy New Year to you and everyone in tune to the "History Of Benin"
Whilst we are all in dispute of which came first, the chicken or the egg, we must remember that as Nigerians we migrated from Nort East Africa down to West Africa. Some Black tribes such as the "Negrito's" never set foot in Africa but have been living in South Asia for over 6000 yrs till now. As Joseph migrated to Egypt from Israel, so his childrens children migrated to Ethipoia and other neighbouring contries. The same applies to all tribes in Nigeria inc Benin & Yoruba!
A brief history lesson for those who are lost on the true facts about Benin, OMO9ja pls take note.He changed his name to 'Izoduwa', (which in his native language Edo language means, "I have chosen the path of prosperity"). The name Izoduwa has been corrupted to Oduduwa, also known as Odudua, Oòdua & Eleduwa, of the Yoruba. On the death of his father, the last Ogiso, a group of Benin Chiefs led by Chief Oliha came to Ife, pleading with Oba (King) Oduduwa to return to Benin to ascend the throne.
BENIN wasn't a Kingdom in acient times, it was an empire extending from OKAH and ONITSHA in recent Anambra state, all through the DELTA and EDO regions to the recent day BENIN Republic via many of the recent day ONDO, southern part of OGUN and the whole of LAGOS states. Nevertheless, these places have been lost to the Igbos (in the east) and the Yorubas (in the west) due to inter marriages and occupations. Many thanks (rather blames) to the British colony. The king of Benin is often paid homages
In the Bible, Beninu was a character who sealed a convenant with Nehemiah before the exile. Beninu was a Levite, as Tola and Izri were also both levites (names linked to Benin today). Benin is actually a common name amongst the white jews of Israel who trace their roots to Esau aka Edom.
Do you know that the Gas of Ghana are yoruba decendants too, do you know some Ghana language consist of yoruba words too. Please check your facts and don't ruin our cultural heritage for ur selfish gains we all know the real truth
Seeing these women and the costumes they wear, remind me of the women in Brazil who wear the white and the headdress! We look alike all over the diaspora! Those heads are beautiful!
I'm proud 2 be a Bendelite, da true founders of Southern Nigeria, the Benin Kingdom. As Hong Kong is 2 China, so da Yoruba tribe is 2 da Edo. We are ur Uncles, no if but's or maybe's! Ignorance is a disease, Education is da cure! No one being down from da skies either.
Very ignorant....and not really founded on any basis of knowledge. Oh well...lol, abeg tell me where they used to take Oba Benin's head at death?? ILE IFE, the center of Oduduwan (yoruba, Edo, Itsekiri, Ika, Onitsha) culture....
"IGNORANCE is a DISEASE, EDUCATION is the CURE", based on the facts I've been submitting, you still refuse to come to terms with the truth! You took so long to respond and you come up with nothing! To suggest that Oduduwan beamed down from the skies is, in itself unfounded and lacks any basis of knowledge (something you would choose to believe). Remember as Hong Kong is to China, so is Lagos to Benin. Before Lagos existed, it was a casava farm occupied by the Great Kingdom of Benin.
LOL! So the Ooni of Ife really believes that myth...what I'm saying is based off egharevba and others...and what the rulers of Edo first wrote down as history.
Eko was a fishing camp inhabited by the Aworis...when rulers came from the Benin kingdom...but not all of the chiefs there are originally from Benin, learn your history.
There is no shame in coming from Ife--it doesn't make you inferior. Just recognize where your root is.
Wow! Your sense of humor amazes me. I thought "Basket Mouth" was the funniest man to come out of Naija until now! You keep repeating the subject of Ife, the Benin Empire can actually be traced back to the 11th century, long b4 Ife was even acknowledged! In Edo the name "Izoduwa" means I have chosen the path of prosperity the original name of "Oduduwa". It is clear to me that you have shame in acknowledging the true facts of your true roots & knowing the truth makes you to feel inferior!!
You are the wrong one here. Binis are descendants of Oduduwa the son of Olodumare, the story of Olodumare is almost like Christ because he was son of God no mother he ascended into heaven promised to come back, we still waiting for him to come back. Yoruba kingdom was later grouped into 7divisions therafter other spread afar all later called Songhai empire by european explorers (invaders) Bini was junior brother . Don't rewrite history to suit ur selfish ends
I sense a lot of bitterness & anger in your messages as your sub-conscious mind tells me that you are having doubts on the fictious stories that have been passed down from your forefathers who are actually our nephews! If you trace the real history of Africa, you'll discover that many tribes descend from others including the Benin tribe. Most African tribes can trace their roots to N. East Africa (Israel). But the Yoba's trace theirs to the heavens! You must be a unique race to just beamed down
u r a brainwashed christian that mingle ur history to suit their story, Believe NOT in christianity because it''s formulated by the Romans. We believe in creation of mankind out of Africa, we didn't beem from heaven u see u know nothing about our history. Olodumade is to us God who is the one from heaven but send His son Oduduwa the father of yorubas who bore 7 children that hold 7 yoruba major cities including Bini city. Yeshua is a black man. We not going into that. BINI CAME OUT OF YORUBA .
Ignorance is a Disease, Education is the Cure! You have alot of Ignorance, and lack the truth surrounding your Educational Historic origins. Your'e still searching for the truth, but it keeps bringing you back to your forefathers, the Benin Kingdom! The only man to descend from the heavens and bore children on this earth was Lucifer, people worship him in the form of money and SPRAYING! So now, you claim the Yoba's held Benin City, pure lies handed down from generation to generation!
You are the ignorant one here, you believe in the christian version. Know ur own history. Lucifer is what we Yoruba call Esu Odara. Bini like tellng Myth and Tales we tell the real story with facts and reliquaries in IleIfe (The Broad House)Oyo, Oshogbo et.c. I'm not happy how the Bini elders changed the story from its original version which were studied in schools and universities. What do they want to gain recognition? Binis are great to have taken the stand to leave and for a great kingdom
When you search on Youtube for Benin Kingdom, The History of Benin what do you find?
Yes you find a barage of information that dates back centuries. Now type in the Oyo Empire/History or Kingdom what do you find?
You dont find an in depth documentary but a fictious story, so you come here out of fraustration to spread your propaganda. Go to wikipedia, do a google search on Oba and you'll see how many times Benin pops up, compared to Yoba's.
Do u even read all my responses at all? I explained that to you. Get the spelling right YORUBA. Google it if u need glasses I'll get u one. When did europeans discovered West Africa? such idiocy about Bini century dating. Do some reasoning of Bini is not even up to a single town in Ondo state alone . The largest city in the whole of Africa is IBADAN not in Bini so the land was transported there? and it is in one of Yoruba states. Common sense should tell you that you are the part that broke off
@omoibile any human would like the fact that his origin is out of heaven, but the fact remains, human are interrelated. The Edo and Yoruba case is much similar to English and American, go into deep America, when you hear them speak, you have to listen carefully to realise they are even speaking English language, most white Americans would openly dispute of the monarchy system and dislike England to your face but in their mind they know England is where most of their forefathers started from,
@omoibile the good thing is they keep this history as fact and because it was very recently that this happened in historical terms, coupled with the fact that written language and instant communication of present day wont allow this to be this case, Even the Australians. Hence the language which they all share in common ‘English’ has not been totally distorted as the Yoruba language has been from Edo language.
@omoibile Imagine the period of this divide when izoduwa left benin, over 5 centuries ago with no continuous communication with the mother language, it’s obvious & common sense wld tell us there wld be total distortion of the language.
@omoibile Even the Greeks have their own folklore as the yoruba’s has formulated theirs, a Greek friend of mine specifically told me all those Zeus, Apollo greek gods and goddess we hear about are all folklores, not real so the yorubas should wake up from their folk tales and realise that we are all blacks and coming from the same root, in this case Edo is the root.
@blingg247 : YOU ARE DELIRIOUS AND KNOW NOTHING ABOUT UR ORIGIN. YORUBA GAVE BIRTH TO YOU EITHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT HENCE UR LANGUAGE CONSIST OF YORUBA WORDS LIKE MANY OTHERS THAT DEVIATE FROM IT. SORRY TO BURST UR BUBBLES
@omoibile you have not burst my bubbles, it's history out there for every one to read, you are in denial. Please fizi247 help me educate omoibile, I leave him to you, you can handle him better.
@blingg247 : i still stand by my words. YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT UR HISTORY BUT COOKED UP DISTORTED STORY TOLD TO DIS APPROVE THE TRUTH. YOU LEFT YORUBA KINGDOM OUT OF ANNOYANCE HENCE UR NAME ibinu. YOU ARE AMONG THE SEVEN SONS OF ODUDUWA WHICH IS UR ANCESTRAL BACKGROUND (YORUBA)
@omoibile Well the only person showing signs of annoyance since on this forum is you omo izoduwa. we have been having constructive and logical argument until now. Am not going to go into long argument with you over this, the truth is laid bare in front of you, but you are too proud to accept it. Well I stand by my words too.
@omoibile UR IGNORANCE IS BEYOND CORRECTION. CONTINUE TO LIVE IN A FOOL'S PARADISE. SIMPLE MATHEMATICS SHOWS INFLUENCE OF YORUBA IN WEST AFRICAN COUNTRIES AND BEYOND, YET YOU CAN'T GET THIS INTO UR EGOCENTRIC MIND AND STOP UR FOOLISH PRIDE. A WELL KNOWN FACT IS THAT INDEED THE BENINS ARE THE FIRST BORN OF ODUDUWA WHO IS THE FATHER OF ALL YORUBAS (this confused ur fathers to claim Benin as first not realising that Yoruba had been as a nation which gave birth to u and other 6 natiuons of Yorubas)
@omoibile It is obvious, that the Yorubas are not oganize like the Benins to these days, this lady's stroy has nothing to do with pride, back in historic any any powerful nation could fall for the other at a particular time. so i wonder what paranoid the Yorubas here.
@manuel60629 : YOU HAVE A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH YORUBAS AND MAY GOD HELP YOU IN OVERCOMING UR ISSUES. YOU ARE A CLEAR EXAMPLE OF WHY BENINS ARE KNOWN TO BE SO HATEFUL AMONG THEMSELVES. I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU STAND FOR UNITY OF NIGERIANS. I DO NOT KNOW WHERE YOU HEARD YORUBAS ARE NOT ORGANIZED. FOR GOD'S SAKE THE WHOLE OF BENIN DO NOT REACH A TINY VILLAGE IN THE SMALLEST YORUBA TOWN AND WE HAVE MANY...LOL... YOU ARE PARANOID AND DELUSIONAL...HAHAHA
It is well documented in history books that Benin was the most important African Empire which spreaded without the influence of Islam. Moreover I have never had anybody abroad talking about Yoruba arts, while Benin art is seen as a reflection of African History.
You see nobody who can brag about being well informed about african History without having any knoledge of Benin History.
My Friend Benin in those Days was as important as Roman Empire at least in riches, arts, organization...
@nprolog1 :WHAT! YOU ARE INDEED IGNORANT..LOL.... YOU NEED TO WATCH MANY OF IFE BRONZE AND OTHER YORUBA ARTS DISPLACED IN BRITISH MUSEUMS. YORUBA IS NOT A STATE LIKE BENIN, WE HAVE MANY STATES WITHIN YORUBA. IT'S LIKE SAYING THAT THE KANURI ARTS MAKE THEMS MORE IMPORTANT THAN KANO. YOU NEED TO READ MORE AND STOP UR SELF PROCLAMATION. YES INDEED BENIN IS AN IMPORTANT KINGDOM YET THAT DO NOT MEAN THEY ARE NOT SONS OF ODUDUWA. BENIN WAS GREAT THANKS TO ITS ROOTS,..YORUBA...LOL
1+1=2, but when you provide evidence is does not add up to make any logical sense. This is the problem in Africa. You have the Cameroonians that were once part of Nigeria but deny the facts, the Ijebu's that actually descend from Benin but consider themselves to be Yoruba, the Sengalese and Gambians formely known as Senegam but unaware of the facts that they were one, the Ashanti tribe from Somalia that migrated to Ghana, the Sudanese who speak Hausa as a 2nd language, the list goes on......
Don't mind fizi247 with his unfounded local story. When you have majprity of a particular set of people spread all over it means a nation. Tell me the population of benin tribe 1% in Nigeria but Yoruba all over Africa and around the world many that tells the history yoruba is a nation on its own before we divide and our ancestors persecuted, killed and forbidden to speak their mind by the oppressors. We have history not written but oral tradition.
Yes, today the population of Benin City is 1% or more of Nigeria. The Moors Empire was also a similar percentage of the Roman Empire, but it did not stop them from conquering the Romans on elephants on 2 occasions. It is not the Edo people who are rewriting the history as the facts and evidence are presented in front of you. The 1st Oba of Benin can be traced back to the 11th century and the 1st Oba of Yoruba is recorded as 17th century. Do you know the meaning of Ile-Ife in Benin? I doubt it!!!
Very Interesting. Insightful.

Diaries were noted down about r traditions & not Yoba's!
fizi247 3 years ago
Try not to brag about that.

Plz!

It shows where we all came from except North.
omoibile 3 years ago
I say stop referencing the foriegn histories. Visit the babalawo of Ife and Benin City and ask them to recite the Odu Ifa that speak to the foundation of humanity, the progenitors of each kingdom and the source of all existence. No question will remain.
ObafemiO 3 years ago
Don't mind Bini people even in history at schools they thought that Bini was founded by one of Oduuwa children that left out of anger. Those Binu people are really angry people, they are so dubious cunny just as their fore fathers did. (rebels)
omoibile 3 years ago
Not only were Benin people rebels, but we were also Great Warriors my friend. Something you forgot to mention like so many other important facts.
I'm assuming that through fraustration you've been desperately seeking the truth on your part of history in confirming what your forefathers have told you, and you will always end up at either Dahomey or the Benin Kingdom no matter where you turn! As 1+1=2 in your case it will always be any other number that simply does not add up!
fizi247 3 years ago
You're no great warriors which of ur warriors are known, Yporuba GREAT warriors are known all over Sango and Ogun they were later turned to deities for their greatness, do u know the catholic attributed him to St. Barbara? Ask Yoruba in Dahomey where they came from they'll tell you they are from Nigeria Oyo State because they fled to Dahomey when war broke out in old Oyo kingdom. Our history were not dated by white men figures 'cause they use citation of Cosmic changes also trees planted et.c
omoibile 3 years ago
General Isidahomen was a great warrior during the time of the Benin Empire.
Who was responsible for the slave trade? It was the past Oba's of Benin, who traded on greed with the Europeans. When people settled in Ecko now known as Lagos, a local dialect was formed in the same way the Ijebu's have their dialect. By the way who did the Oyo empire have war with. Please don't mention the Punitive Expedition. The British were less numbers than Nigeria & enslaved us the Benin did also to its ppl!
fizi247 3 years ago
No one mention British could it be the conscience, they actually made bini abhor us because they were interested in stealing all ur Bronze whereby causing confusion. Ever before the British , Portuguese were before them the Arabs were taking us slavery Eko is a later story because it was a small Island for fishermen who came by boats later the General merchants started trading by barter came Portuguese thru Badagry Port to trade too. Oyo had war between themselves hence Old Oyo now splitted.
omoibile 3 years ago
As you said it, Oyo had war between themselves the perfect receipe for self destruction! You never heard of the Benin Empire having war amongst themselves but against others. You mention Portugal but forget Spain, when you go their you see evidence of the Benin link between Spain and Portugal.
As your own tribe had war against each other, they inherit a rift/feud that will last forever and I'm sure both will deny who comes from where 1st.
fizi247 3 years ago
WHAT??? Bini in spain LMAO

Keep sending me replies, I will ignore them as you are just a bitter man, who can't accept the truth that we are ur UNCLES!
fizi247 3 years ago
@fizi247 wrong search for oyo empire on wikipedia and then scroll down to slave trade.. it is a well know fact among edo's that "the oba never allowed any one of his people or subjects to be taken away as slaves". In light of this same loyal and jealous protection of his people and kingdom that caused the rift between another proud kingdom the british that led to the infamous expendition of britain in 1897
blingg247 1 year ago
@blingg247 So Mr Blingg, based on your figures & theory, slavery took place after the "Punitive Expedition" in 1897, during the time when the Oba's palace was burnt down to the ground.
You said that I must do my research, but most ppl in this forum have heard of "Olaudah Equiano" a Nigerian slave born 1745-1797 sent to Britain. Please do your maths, as slavery started over 400 years long b4 1897 my brother!!!!!

I used the word colonise, not slavery.
blingg247 1 year ago
@blingg247 Many factors can be taken into consideration in relations to slavery, such as tribal warfare and colonisation. Rather than just kill of other tribes during warfare, it may of been beneficial for the Oba at the time to trade them with Europeans in exchange for goods whilst securing the territories that they have just colonised. You say that I have misunderstood your comment in which I replied my brother, but you have just removed the same comment for all to see.
fizi247 1 year ago
@fizi247 i never removed any comment, it just was'nt complete i posted the same and exact completed comment for all to see.
blingg247 1 year ago
@fizi247 maybe some other smaller tribes at the time or from other african countries did. But quote this anywhere, the then oba's of benin never dealed on slavery with the europeans and it's a well know fact on all other forums.
blingg247 1 year ago
@fizi247 It is also obvious that Portougese and spain before saw the benin kingdom as equal to theirs, and for this same reason the benin lkingdom sent ambasadors to portugal. But is common knowledge that in the past the british saw every other culture as inferior to theirs including fellow european culture, only until recently do they see everyone as equal.
blingg247 1 year ago
@fizi247 Do your resarch the british knew the only way of colonising the whole of nigeria was to dislogde the oba of benin whom would not allow anyone to enslave his people or his subject, because for the edo's the white man was not new to them, they have been doing business with the portugese and dealing with them on equal terms for centuries and so where not used to the ideas of the british passing down orders to the kingdom as was the case of the british intervention in nigeria.
blingg247 1 year ago
@blingg247 Please Mr Blingg247, slow down. With regards, to your above comments, please elaborate & quote me word for word on any direct comments I have made in the past to your responses. I am fully aware of the Spanish & Portuguese being the 1st Europeans to set foot in the Benin Kingdom. Your correct, when you state that the Oba refused to sell his ppl to the Europeans, infact the Europeans were driven out of the Benin Kingdom by the Oba once these proposals were made.
fizi247 1 year ago
@fizi247 you said in your past comment and i quote "Who was responsible for the slave trade? It was the past Oba's of Benin, who traded on greed with the Europeans." what is the meaning of this? maybe i mis understand you, please explain.
blingg247 1 year ago
@blingg247 Thank you! I fully appreciate your reply & I will back my comment. Whilst I can not specifically state which Oba would've been involved in the trading of slaves to Europeans, I can confirm that the Oba who was eventually in favour of slavery, was going against the traditions, customs & culture of his predecessors. When Merchants would travel from Europe, the Oba would see floating Palaces on sea, with weapons & other goods to trade in exchange for other goods with the Benin Kingdom
fizi247 1 year ago
@fizi247 And where did you read that the only goods they europeans wanted from africa then was slaves? youtube will not allow links, i would have sent you a link to a site with list of good mainly traded then, from ivory, to pepper, tobacco e.t.c which the oba's and benin obviously had loads of. But I have never read it anywhere else where any oba was in favour of dealing on slavery. So watch what you say brother!!! because it can come around and hunt you.
blingg247 1 year ago
@blingg247 Look my friend, I was replying to your question in relation to "Greed, Oba & Slavery". Do not get it twisted. I'm fully aware that the Oba of Benin traded in various commodities, just like everyone else on this forum. I will conclude this diccussion, as it seems we are diverting from the main issue!!! Good bye

@fizi247 well, we might have diverted from the main issue. But we have cleared the air on other sensitive issues, history is a harsh area to delve into, well that is what it is.

Oduduwa's reply was that a ruler cannot leave his domain but he had seven sons and would ask one of them to go back to Benin to become the next King.
fizi247 3 years ago

Before Lagos existed, it was a casava farm occupied by the Great Kingdom of Benin.
fizi247 3 years ago

It is clear to me that you have shame in acknowledging the true facts of your true roots & knowing the truth makes you to feel inferior!!
fizi247 3 years ago

So now, you claim the Yoba's held Benin City, pure lies handed down from generation to generation!

The Edo and Yoruba case is much similar to English and American, go into deep America, when you hear them speak, you have to listen carefully to realise they are even speaking English language, most white Americans would openly dispute of the monarchy system and dislike England to your face but in their mind they know England is where most of their forefathers started from,
blingg247 1 year ago

1+1=2, but when you provide evidence is does not add up to make any logical sense. This is the problem in Africa. You have the Cameroonians that were once part of Nigeria but deny the facts, the Ijebu's that actually descend from Benin but consider themselves to be Yoruba, the Sengalese and Gambians formely known as Senegam but unaware of the facts that they were one, the Ashanti tribe from Somalia that migrated to Ghana, the Sudanese who speak Hausa as a 2nd language, the list goes on......
fizi247 3 years ago
Don't mind fizi247 with his unfounded local story. When you have majprity of a particular set of people spread all over it means a nation. Tell me the population of benin tribe 1% in Nigeria but Yoruba all over Africa and around the world many that tells the history yoruba is a nation on its own before we divide and our ancestors persecuted, killed and forbidden to speak their mind by the oppressors. We have history not written but oral tradition.
omoibile 3 years ago
Yes, today the population of Benin City is 1% or more of Nigeria. The Moors Empire was also a similar percentage of the Roman Empire, but it did not stop them from conquering the Romans on elephants on 2 occasions. It is not the Edo people who are rewriting the history as the facts and evidence are presented in front of you. The 1st Oba of Benin can be traced back to the 11th century and the 1st Oba of Yoruba is recorded as 17th century. Do you know the meaning of Ile-Ife in Benin? I doubt it!!!
