I'm not going to rewatch the entire doc to point out the clips; one is when edge says to Jack that Page "has some punk in him". Watch the look Jack gives him. Or when edge realizes he's playing in the wrong key, the look between Page and White. And ftr, I'm not dissing edge. He's good at what he does. But he's not the kind of guitarist White and Page are. Page and White both approach their playing in a similar fashion; Brute force, heavy riffage, heavy soloing. Edge was there to act as a foible to that, because his approach is about melodic scalar dynamics.

In all of his eccentricities and ego he is surprisingly humble about the origins of his sound. For a guy who has been told that he created rock n roll guitar, he has no illusions of grandeur in regard to his guitar originality. And talk about a guy who only plays 3 chords in any given song...

@imedi I understand it's personal I'm a guitarist. Everyone brings their own nuance to playing. I'm not going to rewatch the entire doc to point out the clips; one is when edge says to Jack that Page "has some punk in him". Watch the look Jack gives him. Or when edge realizes he's playing in the wrong key, the look between Page and White. And ftr, I'm not dissing edge. He's good at what he does. But he's not the kind of guitarist White and Page are. Period.

@imedi And I don't mean "better". I mean the approach is fundamentally different. Page and White both play punk infused blues, though Page predates punk (skiffle was an early proto punk genre). Edge plays melodic pop and uses the guitar to craft soundscapes through his effects.
Page and White both approach their playing in a similar fashion; Brute force, heavy riffage, heavy soloing. Edge was there to act as a foible to that, because his approach is about melodic scalar dynamics.

White's produced countless albums (including three of his own bands), resurrected Loretta Lynn, founded a successful label/record store and has tirelessly promoted the musicians who made him what he is. In response to musicians borrowing from each other, I just watched Hail, Hail, Rock 'n Roll. Chuck is extremely honest about how he developed his sound. In all of his eccentricities and ego he is surprisingly humble about the origins of his sound. For a guy who has been told that he created rock n roll guitar, he has no illusions of grandeur in regard to his guitar originality. And talk about a guy who only plays 3 chords in any given song...

@Sydplayson All musicians rip each other off all the time.As guitarists Brian May, Jimmy Page and David Gilmour freely admit it and actively encourage it. Nearly all guitarists quote the greats such as Leadbelly and Jimi Handrix as been massive influences on their playing. Every musician pinches a little from each other and make something that turns into their own.

@RumbleGuts2112 I agree, influence between musicians is a great thing but Page blatantly STOLE from artists, not just some modified riff but lyrics and all and not a proper credit in sight. Old blues that most had never heard of in England during the 60's and 70's? Page is there to claim the credit. Coffee house folksters? Hope Jimmy isn't listening. On top of it, John Paul Jones wrote so many of LZ's riffs but all the credit goes to Page, as this "genius" guitarist.

Much jealousy of Edge seems to abound. Look, he is the lead guitarist for the most succesful rock band of the past 25 years. Edge specializes in creating "textures" for the rest of the band. He is the best at what he does. It is somewhat un-conventional, but it works for U2. The proof is in the hit songs, the multiple Grammys, the album sales, the record-breaking concert tours, etc. Get over it...

It's available in hundreds of languages and has been shown literally millions of times by evangelical Christian missions all over the world. The fact that U2 are popular tells us nothing about The Edge's skills as a guitarist; the people who made 'Jesus' are not the greatest film-makers ever.
