The first theme i remember.Goes along with the general idea that the 80's were to be a 'modern' age..lots of synths and computer graphics,a totally different look
Brian Moore was a half decent commentator. For me, he had too much London bias when doing the ITV live matches, before the Evil Empire got the FAPL rights. Understandable, since LWT were paying his wages, but commentators are meant to show some impartiality!
@ninjaradish Ever heard clive tyldesly doing manc united!! leave off mate, thats biased for you, close second to Andy , GOD i WISHED iD PLAYED FOR THE REDS,Gray - another c@@t who forgets his loyalties
@nigvilla I agree with what you say Nigvilla... All I said that Brian Moore had too much London bias, which was true. Hugh Johns had too much Midlands bias, just as Elton Welsby had too much North West bias. I am only making a statement of fact. Of course you are going to cater to your audience, which is what the ITV commentators did. The BBC commentators in this era were much better anyway.
Fantastic. Only generally saw this when visiting relatives down south or when the occasional prog was screened in my local area. I remember the commentary and games seemed more exciting than the usually dour games shown on TTTV/Yorkshire TV. I think the Tyne Tees football programme was called something really naff like "Shoot"!!!
I miss Brian Moore's commentries so much i grew up with listening to him on the telly in the days before Sky TV he died to young i think if he was still around today i think he make todays bunch look very unstylish Rest In Peace Mooro we miss u so much.
For my money the 78/79 theme is the best...brings back all kinds of memories....and Brian Moore...brilliant..thanks for the posting..btw , Match of the Day theme was great too.
The best BIG MATCH theme ever? (though the original runs it pretty close...) I have the track in full and it's not the same without the twiddly bits (which I think they did use for the end of the programme)
Excellent! Used to watch this as a kid and had this song in my head for years. No one else remembered it though so I thought I was imagining it!!! I was proven right when they started showing the reruns on ITV4 recently!! And it was only then that I realised it was by Jeff Wayne!! Also RIP the late great Brian Moore.
Didn't know it was Jeff Wayne and love the tune.Cheers for sending. All that is missing is the immortal voice of my hero Brian Moore. The only commentator who could make a 0-0 bore sound like the game of a lifetime.
sounds a bit Jeff Wayne's war of the worlds to me

For 1980-81 these titles & music feel surprisingly modern. With improved computer graphics available now they wouldnt look of place if used today.
akava77 3 years ago 6
so what your saying is they need to be improved and theyd look modern then? :P

Brian Moore. A legend. And by all accounts a true gentleman. Died relatively young. A great loss.
