  • @369simsim I,m using oderless mineral spirits as a medium and yes these are oil colors. the white I use is alkyd.

  • @369simsim thanx a lot jim...

  • What was that brown stuff you put on ?

  • Stupid question, why do you cover the white before you start painting?

  • I love your work...thank you for sharing

  • Do you ever use linseed oil in your finial stages

  • Does anyone know what medium Jimmy is using? Is it walnut oil...mineral spirits? What is it he's mixing his colors with. Thanks in advance.

  • mineral spirits

  • Damn Jimmy,why u going soo fast,LMAO,LMAO!Looks like u on speed,lol!U are a wonderful painter!

  • Thanks for awsome videos, thanks for sharing!!!

  • your truly a good painter sir....

  • I have just discovered your videos. They are very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to do them for us !!!

I would love to see a video of painting a deciduous tree in this new slowed down/narrative format. Something like the tree in #5 of the White Barn series from 2 years ago.

I'm having a terrible time painting trees.

Thank you again !!! These videos are wonderful. Love your dog too !!!

  • Does anyone know what medium Jimmy is using?

  • Jimmy

What's the other blue you use for the sky color? You mention prussian blue but not the main color

  • Ultramarine

  • Jimmy You are the GREATEST !!

I love all your videos, still have to see more which I have not yet.

Your are very kind to share your time and knowledge for us..

    We love ya!

  • Thanks for sharing the great videos with us, they are some of the best I have come across -love the techniques you share and can't get enough. Modeling trees and creating more realistic 3d is of interest to me. Any problems I am having now are color related - can't seem to get the right colors for the distance, am doing a fall scene with lots of colors in the back - when they are lighter they seem unrealistic? Do you have a web site? How do we know about new releases Linda Calgary,Canada

  • Hi Jim,

Just landed on your page by mere chance. I am new to these lessons and your work and after seeing your videos I must say that today is certainly my lucky day.

YOU ARE A FANTASTIC TEACHER AND A SUPERV ARTIST.

Is there a chance for me to obtain a copy of the original picture you used as ref. for "beached whaler".

Thank you in advance for your help and keep up the good work.

    Best,

    Elias (Spain)

  • What's the first thing you dip your brush into? Before you start mixing in the sky color? Is that linseed oil? I'm having some trouble knowing when to use linseed oil or not.

  • dont use linseed oil at all. I use odorless paint thinner for everything

  • Nice paintings Jim! I've been watching your videos all week, why do you use that brown color for the first under painting? Thanks!

  • I like to get rid of the white. Also some of the early layers are not completely opaque and the red toning comes thru a little giving a warm glow. Thanks for watching!

  • Do you use flake white?

  • I use Alkyd Titanium white....it dries very fast (overnight)

  • Oops! Found the answer to my question on part two... brillant!

  • Hi Jim,

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful work! You're very gifted without a doubt.

I have a question; of your reference photo, are you using a photo copy or a computer screen?

I've used "paper copies" from my photographs, to achieve certain effects.

I'm just curious as to your photo reference & which do you think, relates sharper image for your eye, to canvas

    You're a great teacher too!

  • Hi Jim: I'm going to try this one! I'll be way behind but I'll try and catch up. I think organicpaul is going a great job so far!

  • Hi Rita: this ones pretty easy until you get to the water in the foreground....I'm just finishing up the painting today and getting the water to look right was a hair puller...from what i saw of your work, you should be fine though. Ive been sending out hi res reference and progress shots thru email.....message me if your interested.....maybe we'll have a contest for best Beached Whaler..lol...be sure and post your progress!....good luck

  • wow, you are fast!

  • Hi Jim , OK, I'm in on this one.How about posting the image somewhere to download?cheers Paul

  • Paul... follow the instructions on Oct Lane 1 for doing a print screen at 0:17 in. Be sure and do HQ and full screen. If that doesnt work for you i can email you a high res jpg.

    (edited for correct time)

  • It looks like this ones going to be another masterpiece!
