I have just discovered your videos. They are very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to do them for us !!!
I would love to see a video of painting a deciduous tree in this new slowed down/narrative format. Something like the tree in #5 of the White Barn series from 2 years ago.
I'm having a terrible time painting trees.
Thank you again !!! These videos are wonderful. Love your dog too !!!
Thanks for sharing the great videos with us, they are some of the best I have come across -love the techniques you share and can't get enough. Modeling trees and creating more realistic 3d is of interest to me. Any problems I am having now are color related - can't seem to get the right colors for the distance, am doing a fall scene with lots of colors in the back - when they are lighter they seem unrealistic? Do you have a web site? How do we know about new releases Linda Calgary,Canada
Just landed on your page by mere chance. I am new to these lessons and your work and after seeing your videos I must say that today is certainly my lucky day.
YOU ARE A FANTASTIC TEACHER AND A SUPERV ARTIST.
Is there a chance for me to obtain a copy of the original picture you used as ref. for "beached whaler".
Thank you in advance for your help and keep up the good work.
What's the first thing you dip your brush into? Before you start mixing in the sky color? Is that linseed oil? I'm having some trouble knowing when to use linseed oil or not.
I like to get rid of the white. Also some of the early layers are not completely opaque and the red toning comes thru a little giving a warm glow. Thanks for watching!
Hi Rita: this ones pretty easy until you get to the water in the foreground....I'm just finishing up the painting today and getting the water to look right was a hair puller...from what i saw of your work, you should be fine though. Ive been sending out hi res reference and progress shots thru email.....message me if your interested.....maybe we'll have a contest for best Beached Whaler..lol...be sure and post your progress!....good luck
Paul... follow the instructions on Oct Lane 1 for doing a print screen at 0:17 in. Be sure and do HQ and full screen. If that doesnt work for you i can email you a high res jpg.

Nice paintings Jim! I've been watching your videos all week, why do you use that brown color for the first under painting? Thanks!

Hi Jim,
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful work! You're very gifted without a doubt.
I have a question; of your reference photo, are you using a photo copy or a computer screen?
I've used "paper copies" from my photographs, to achieve certain effects.
I'm just curious as to your photo reference & which do you think, relates sharper image for your eye, to canvas
You're a great teacher too!
