At american Revolutionary War yanks faced "certain defeat" to the British...
...and "It is a War america could not have survived without French assistance".. ONLY reason the French bailed out yanks (yes Spanish & Dutch helped too) wasn't kindness to america but because French were terrified of British Empire
Although the French liberated america..and only small % of British troops were involved, British later gained revenge over the French notably Duke of Wellington defeated Napoleon
Britain stayed out of European contienent for 20 years and participated at the coalition of Waterloo with 15% (including the Irish) of all soldiers. Napoleon was not defeated by Britain but by a coalition of All superpower (Austria, russia, Prussia, Britain) and other country like Netherland etc.
@gipcambero I think you need to do some reading on the Peninsula War. Britain was at war in Spain, Portugal and eventually Southern France from 1808 to 1814. Waterloo happened in 1815. Hardly a case of "Britain stayed out of Euopean Continent for 20 years".
Also from 1801 to the 1920's Ireland was a willing part of the United Kingdom. The Triple Crown was England, Scotland and Ireland. The Irish, during the Napoleonic Wars, were as British as the English, Scots and Welsh.
I heard that the Founding Fathers wanted to extend west into native country but the king years ago made a offer to the natives because of how kind they were to the pilgrims to not go any further west and set up trade routes with them which they lived in peace but this did not go down well with the rich colonists who wanted more and so blamed taxes for independence even tho those taxes were benefiting you country we know what happened next killed women children this is not in your history books
I'm a patriotic Englishman and I'm happy to admit that Britain was in the wrong here. Interestingly our then leader, King George III was actually insane. We didn't get another mad leader until Thatcher!
And what a waste of all that tea! You could have had that tea at midday with clotted cream and scones
I dont think it was a mistake, can't have these savages running a country but ah well. I agree with you on the waste of tea though, what a pitty. I like the way rednecks have given you thumbs down for being british.
Fianlly someone admits that textbooks aren't correct when they say Britain is evil and America is good. That is not at all true to say that one is perfect and one is evil.
the colonist originally rebeled because of the way british were exploiting them. east india tea, and other companies forced americans to buy their product and nobody elses BY LAW! on top of that their criminal freinds in parlament want to collect taxes. Fuck it that shits goin in the Drink!
did you know that the american anthem was originally a drinking song from Great Britain? The lyrics come from a poem named "Defence of fort mchenry". Its the only anthem in the world to be based on a drinking song!!!
These Americans revolutionaries are ungrateful scum to His Majesty's Government who spent so much money on keeping them British in the French and Indian wars and when they are taxed on it they don't want to be british anymore even though in England the population had to pay a considerbale larger amount of tax even though they had no particular interest in the "new world"
That's true, and I don't agree with them revolting because of raised taxes. But there was the "virtual vs. actual representation" problem. They weren't given any representation in the British government except by people living in Britain, and no matter the intellegence of those who were chosen to represent them, they were still living in Britain and therefore couldn't represent the colonies to their best interests at all.
Perhaps the war could have been avoided, but in my opinion it would have happened eventually anyway, the centralized power being all the way in England while a vast uncontrolled land lay westward.
Well, sure, but you're not complaining about the modern country. You're complaining about the fact that we didn't like the British. Which is sort of different. Anyway, it's not like they can go back in time and win the war, so if you're gonna whine, whine about something worthwhile. And just to clear up: the issue was NOT the taxes, it was the fact that they gave us no political discourse.
That's a bit different, though. While some of their CITIES had no representation, the entirety of the colonies had none at all. And the fact that they were trying to rule us from overseas without giving us any say whatsoever kind of annoyed the colonists, understandably.
if portugal and brazil and its african colonies can form the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil, and the Algarve why couldn't americans be happy with the country they fought for in the french and indian wars
The Americans were happy with the country itself. They just didn't like the way they were being governed. And when they tried to peacefully object, the British passed a bunch of laws saying they couldn't object. The colonists saw George III as a controlling monarch who was on the way to becoming a dictator, so they wanted to break away. It has nothing to do with being happy with the country.
They didn't though, not really. Most of them regretted breaking away from Britain but saw no other choice; they'd rather become independent than be governed unfairly. They did what they thought would best benefit their future.
I know. I didn't say they weren't. Like I said, the issue wasn't that they were taxed, but that they were given no options and no say in their own government.
oh well Britain is like America's dad and it's kids were Canada and America and American became the Rebellious teen and broke away eventually and I am happy they did Britain was unfare to us

2. I don't want people using this in school projects, for their own sake. You are free to take the video in any way you figure out (link to it!), but sending it to you makes it too easy to claim as your own, which doesn't bother me, but can result in a loss for you.

By the way, at the boston massacre the snowballs had rocks and ice in them. That first drawing of the boston massacre is very famous, but I have a question for you, why do all the British soldiers have smiles on their faces? Means a colonist drew it to spark more rage
Actually, The Proclamation of 1763 was to save the British some money. They didn't want to have to send troops over the mountains to protect the colonists who wanted to move there. Plus, it was difficult to collect taxes that far away. They didn't care much for Indian relations at that point, as most attacked the colonists regularly. :)
Indeed the colonists weren't completely justified in throwing stuff at the British, but a few weeks prior to that, the soldiers killed a young boy for protesting, and they wanted payback. BTW, the first drawing was propaganda by Thomas Jefferson. It was made to make the colonists believe the troops were only to blame and the colonists were helpless. Also note that a key figure, Crispus Attucks, isn't in the original (racists!), but was in the one drawn many years later.:)

American forces during the war ignored rules of engagement.
some economists have reason to belive the real reason for the revolution was economically based. The aristocratic nature of the boston area thought that mabey they would do better economically without the british, hencefourth the reason for propoganda. To get the masses on your side. classic example "taxation without representation" it looked good on the posters and was an easy thing for the population to follow.
pretty good video i learned all of that this year in social studies they need money cause the debt from the war so they taxed them yet they didn't have repsrentation "taxation without reprsetation is tryanny!!" idk but that always inspires me
yes it is. but what would they have been able to do about it in parliament anyways. its like if in the senet todays dem to rep ration was 1 to 50. if they were in parliament all they would do is give Britian justifacation for taxing the colonys.
never in a million years..britain invented the indusrial revolution and thus was the biggest economically during that time..actually a lot of our cotton supplies came from the american deep south, until the american civil war when our supplies were reduced due to the fact we backed the south..but we managed with the indian cotton ok
Britain started the industrial revolution yes, which allowed them to conquer and enslave large portions of Africa, China, and other Eastern exploits. But by 1860 America was outproducing Britain, We experienced an even further influx of innovation from 1870-1900 which widened the gap.
actually your supplies didn't reduce cause the year before the South shipped out more cotton then ever in years so you had no problems with the cotton and then you turned to Eygptian and Indian cotton and if I spelled eygptian wrong sorry
dont know his reasons for leavin uk, but i would guess it wasnt because of logistic reasons, britain was the most powerfull nation in the world at that time and u.s didnt have anything we didnt? tim berners lee invented the world wide web
By 1860 America had surpassed Britain as the economic power. In 1870 the difference became even more apparent. We had more telegraph lines, companies, and electric plants. To provide the way.
also yes you are correct the greek state was the first primitive democracy, but the worlds first elected parliamentary democracy was de montforts parliament in england in 1265
Actually the first parliamentary government was late greek/romans parliament. As for one "person" inventing the internet that's laughable... it was invented by a broad consensus of people. Mainly American military intelligence.
tim berners lee invented the internet ..if you dont believe me google his name..also alexander graham bell was only a naturalised american citizen, which is often not voluntary, and is a requirement to stay living in the u.s...[believe me he was british born and bred]
tim berners lee invented the world wide web,and guess what[hes british]also if your scottish your british..also george 3rd was never a dictator and was in no position to give instructions due to his well documented health problems..
I never said George III was a dictator. I said Washington didn't defeat George III (king of England, and therefore "leader" of the British, regardless of health) so he could become George I. (As in become a monarch himself.) Either way, it wasn't my quote, it was Washington's!
no he didn't that was and an American invention America's military invented it and George the 3rd health problems was just another word for he was insane he walked all around his castle at night why do you think they had Lord North represent him he wasn't crazy and he was basiclly running the empire for the king and could vote down any agreements in parliment
The Greeks invented democracy. Either way, the U.S. isn't even a democracy. It's officially a republic. The word "Democracy" never even appears in the Constitution! And, the Romans invented the republic anyway...
george washington and the instigators of the revolution were english colonists with english blood who lived in u.s and were so under british law..they got greedy and saw the opputunity to betray the english crown by sideing with the french, people in britain were very poor and lived in terrible conditions but stayed loyal to there homeland
Another thought: Although from your perspective we're traitorous fools, Washington still turned down the position of dictator after the Revolution by saying: "I did not defeat George the third to become George the first." Not a half bad guy...
he was a nice guy when he could be in the revolution I heard he was tough and mean but that was for the army's on good and look at the results because he was strict we won and you guys were unfare and did so many bad things to us
Actually Bell invented it when he was in America. Being an American citizen, also an American inventor invented it hours after he did. Greek republican state was first democracy.
Bell could only invent it in America where logistical support was provided.. He was in America for years when he invented it. He may have been born in Britain.. but why did he decide to leave? Eh?
the magna carta was the foundation of democracy..no other country in world history has contributed to world culture more than britain..all the great inventions are british [television, telephone, dna, the train, splitting the atom, the english language,to name a few.god save brittania
Actually no, The greek republican state was the first foundation of society.. The Magna Carta merely limited some of the Monarchy's power. It did no such thing as establish democracy. T.V. Tele. were American inventions. Fission was discovered possible by germans made possible by Americans.. English was derived from german.
television was a french invention the telephone and american one dna american the train british splitting the atom american the english language british airplane american the coal ship american the car american the all steel ship american winchester gun american which shot more then just 1 volley but 20
the first car was not American, we were the first to put them on an assembly line(Ford). we can thank our German friend(Benz) for making the first automobile.
no really everyone was english the French only attacked your colonies we beat Cornwallis at yorktown which decided the fate of the revolution and we won it infact Lord North said when he heard American Rebels defeated Cornwallis at york was My god it's over and the British had a better navy so it still had much supplies coming to stop us and we still won
Correct, if you count the Articles of Confederation, under which the U.S. wasn't even really a country. The leaders under the Articles were just there to maintain order (and barely succeeded). George Washington is widely considered to be the first president of the U.S. as it is today.
regardless of what was mentioned previously, i would like to add that this is pretty much the best possible way to explain the american revolution to a bunch of idiots of my senior high school class. thank you for this...its AMAZING!!! lol. do you mind if i show this to my class?
England anit all that bad ass. The British Empire FELL. They lost there colonies in Jamaica, India, South Africa, Canada, Australia... USA > BRx10 any time any were!
Most Americans boast about the Revolutionary war but most americans don't even know what happened. The truth is, the British were more concerned about fighting Napolean and ending the French Empire. It was this. 1) The British fight America, and would easily win America in war. 2) Fight the French in France and end the French Empire. They could do both, they went with destroying the French Empire, and americans boast about how they won? Lol.
first of all the French revolution didn't start until after the American Revolution and Napoleon wasn't in power until after the American Revolution and we won that war with French help and the war of 1812 you didn't beat us niether did we it was like the the British and the Americans knew they were too strong to fight each other so they agreed to a draw basiclly
I love you George Washington! If you can hear me!

And they finaly defeated Napoleon after 20 years of french victories...

also yes you are correct the greek state was the first primitive democracy, but the worlds first elected parliamentary democracy was de montforts parliament in england in 1265
broadband01 4 years ago
Actually the first parliamentary government was late greek/romans parliament. As for one "person" inventing the internet that's laughable... it was invented by a broad consensus of people. Mainly American military intelligence.
snerkable 4 years ago
tim berners lee invented the internet ..if you dont believe me google his name..also alexander graham bell was only a naturalised american citizen, which is often not voluntary, and is a requirement to stay living in the u.s...[believe me he was british born and bred]
broadband01 4 years ago
tim berners lee invented the world wide web,and guess what[hes british]also if your scottish your british..also george 3rd was never a dictator and was in no position to give instructions due to his well documented health problems..
broadband01 4 years ago
I never said George III was a dictator. I said Washington didn't defeat George III (king of England, and therefore "leader" of the British, regardless of health) so he could become George I. (As in become a monarch himself.) Either way, it wasn't my quote, it was Washington's!
mjdgoldeneye 4 years ago
The internet was invented by the American Airforce engineers.
snerkable 4 years ago
no he didn't that was and an American invention America's military invented it and George the 3rd health problems was just another word for he was insane he walked all around his castle at night why do you think they had Lord North represent him he wasn't crazy and he was basiclly running the empire for the king and could vote down any agreements in parliment

the greek state was one of the earliest european civilisations, but the earliest parliaments of democracy is the isle of man of the coast of britain?
broadband01 4 years ago
The Greeks invented democracy. Either way, the U.S. isn't even a democracy. It's officially a republic. The word "Democracy" never even appears in the Constitution! And, the Romans invented the republic anyway...
mjdgoldeneye 4 years ago
george washington and the instigators of the revolution were english colonists with english blood who lived in u.s and were so under british law..they got greedy and saw the opputunity to betray the english crown by sideing with the french, people in britain were very poor and lived in terrible conditions but stayed loyal to there homeland
broadband01 4 years ago
Another thought: Although from your perspective we're traitorous fools, Washington still turned down the position of dictator after the Revolution by saying: "I did not defeat George the third to become George the first." Not a half bad guy...
mjdgoldeneye 4 years ago
he was a nice guy when he could be in the revolution I heard he was tough and mean but that was for the army's on good and look at the results because he was strict we won and you guys were unfare and did so many bad things to us

your having a laugh, telephone was invented by alexander bell,tv by baird both british
broadband01 4 years ago
Actually, both Baird and Alexander Graham Bell were Scottish, I believe. You were technically right...
mjdgoldeneye 4 years ago
Actually Bell invented it when he was in America. Being an American citizen, also an American inventor invented it hours after he did. Greek republican state was first democracy.
snerkable 4 years ago
Bell could only invent it in America where logistical support was provided.. He was in America for years when he invented it. He may have been born in Britain.. but why did he decide to leave? Eh?
snerkable 4 years ago
the magna carta was the foundation of democracy..no other country in world history has contributed to world culture more than britain..all the great inventions are british [television, telephone, dna, the train, splitting the atom, the english language,to name a few.god save brittania
broadband01 4 years ago
Actually no, The greek republican state was the first foundation of society.. The Magna Carta merely limited some of the Monarchy's power. It did no such thing as establish democracy. T.V. Tele. were American inventions. Fission was discovered possible by germans made possible by Americans.. English was derived from german.
snerkable 4 years ago
actually the french invented it but Americans made it a practical invention
Bati1307 4 years ago
What about Athens? They were the first known civilization to use direct democracy.
Also, the personal computer and internet were invented in the U.S. and apparently that's a big thing considering we're all using those.
I'll give you one thing, you guys have Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, The Who, and Pink Floyd.
Trischetta 4 years ago
television was a french invention the telephone and american one dna american the train british splitting the atom american the english language british airplane american the coal ship american the car american the all steel ship american winchester gun american which shot more then just 1 volley but 20
Bati1307 4 years ago
the first car was not American, we were the first to put them on an assembly line(Ford). we can thank our German friend(Benz) for making the first automobile.

plus we would have won if the french hadnt blockaded our supply routes..also george washingtons grandfather was english
broadband01 4 years ago
Well... Yeah, his grandfather was English. Most of the colonists had British relatives, a lot of them still alive. They were the British colonies...
The Magna Carta wasn't so much of a Constitution as a promise that the king wouldn't be an idiot anymore.
mjdgoldeneye 4 years ago
The french merely sent a battalian of ships in back of YorkTown, there was no supplies near enough to supply YorkTown in time to have any effect.
snerkable 4 years ago
no really everyone was english the French only attacked your colonies we beat Cornwallis at yorktown which decided the fate of the revolution and we won it infact Lord North said when he heard American Rebels defeated Cornwallis at york was My god it's over and the British had a better navy so it still had much supplies coming to stop us and we still won
Bati1307 4 years ago
biggest empire the world has ever seen....the first constitution the magna carter 600 years before the american one [enough said]

Geroge Washington was the 11th president of the United States but the first president under the present constitution.
lordmetroid 4 years ago
Correct, if you count the Articles of Confederation, under which the U.S. wasn't even really a country. The leaders under the Articles were just there to maintain order (and barely succeeded). George Washington is widely considered to be the first president of the U.S. as it is today.
mjdgoldeneye 4 years ago
regardless of what was mentioned previously, i would like to add that this is pretty much the best possible way to explain the american revolution to a bunch of idiots of my senior high school class. thank you for this...its AMAZING!!! lol. do you mind if i show this to my class?

Either way, after the French Empire was destroyed, the British Empire grew and America is now Britains best ally, it was the French that lost really.
Androidic 4 years ago
Most Americans boast about the Revolutionary war but most americans don't even know what happened. The truth is, the British were more concerned about fighting Napolean and ending the French Empire. It was this. 1) The British fight America, and would easily win America in war. 2) Fight the French in France and end the French Empire. They could do both, they went with destroying the French Empire, and americans boast about how they won? Lol.
Androidic 4 years ago
Wait wait... Maybe i forgot something here, but Napolean wasn't in power in 1775...
Cplex702 4 years ago
That's right, the French Empire didn't really start until the 1800's. The American Revolution started in 1775 and ended in 1781.
cbg85 4 years ago
first of all the French revolution didn't start until after the American Revolution and Napoleon wasn't in power until after the American Revolution and we won that war with French help and the war of 1812 you didn't beat us niether did we it was like the the British and the Americans knew they were too strong to fight each other so they agreed to a draw basiclly
