  • i like all the greatest ones like martino, lenny breau, benson,lagrene,wes... and (for me) louis is at the top of my list

  • Luthier John Moriarty sets up Louis' guitars. Working to Louis' requirements he has developed compensated bridges for improved tuning. Google Archtop.ie

  • Very nice overall fine sensibility.

  • As good as it gets is Louis......

  • true story about louis. a guy in a bar asked him to give his son a lesson on guitar, so louis obliged. the kid went to his house. they both stummed a chord. the youngster horribly out of tune was told to tune up. two minutes passed, a string was broke, later replaced. mr stewart was losing patience. "It took Segovia 6 seconds to tune up", he told the youngster... "My god, some guys dont give a shit", he responded. True story

  • I guess it all depended on the kids attitude, if he had a "idont really care" attitude id be pretty fed up as well..

  • That's actually an old Jim Hall story... When attributed to him (also as "true") the "kid" was Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead, and the occasion backstage at an all-star guitar gala concert at which Segovia was also performing.

  • Jerry never did manage to play in tune...

  • Haha... Herb Ellis told me the exact same story 13 years ago but as a joke. Louis wasn't involved in his version.

  • Have not heard such great playing since Joe Pass. My first time hearing this master. Thanks for posting.

  • Quite simply a master of guitar.

  • Louis is Ireland's greatest jazz player - plain and simple! He is so self-effacing and humble that I suspect few know of him. I fortunately have seen him playing dozens of time, with greats like Mundell Lowe, Tal Farlow, Barney Kessel, Jim Doherty, John Wadham (RIP) et. al. I hope to see him for many more years to come!!

  • Wow

  • At least the same great as Joe Pass ...

  • Great, but nothing beats his own version of this tune on "Louis the First" - that's a classic album. I wish it would get reissued.

  • Me too. I just about wore out the cassette I have! Great stuff

  • I asked him about it once when I met him, and he brushed it off saying it was just a demo album. I think it's a landmark album.

  • which album? i dont yet have any louis stewart in my collection. please let me know!

  • Thanks,Eclypso.

  • Killer stuff from Louis. I just recently got one of his CDs, didn't know about him before that.

btw.. the first tune in this clip is "alone together" not Gone with the wind.

  • Great clip of Louis, from a program entitled "Introducing the Guitar".Wonderful Guitar sound.great to see it after all these years. Many Thanks
