@chinoto1 I'd refer to Quake 1 engine as idTech1 and Doom engine as idTech0 (if anything). Otherwise you're either skipping Quake1 and it's spin-offs like the original Half-Life completely, implying they use the Doom engine, or shoehorning them into a hypothetical idTech 1.5 which just sounds silly. Also, this way the Quake iteration matches the engine version (assuming we ever get a Q5 on idTech5).
@Nephatrine The engine of Doom and Quake are both known as id Tech 1, even though they are definitely different. Doesn't matter what anyone thinks it should be, that is what id Software decided. You brought up a good point though, I didn't realize they were separate engines with the same alias.
@DIVX54978 If they are moving them they are real time, baked shadows has the name implies do not move has they are baked to the textures, so if the object casting them moved they would stay put. To resume if you see shadows moving them they ARE dynamic shadows (real time shadows).
As much as I hate to put any spotlight at all on dipshit Youtube trolls, AnonymousElektron's comment did spark a thought ... this really is impressive for something rendered in realtime. How long will it be before *intelligent* people start calling "fake" on everything, and real footage is suspect no matter how little opportunity there was to prepare a forgery, even when the suspected forgery is interactive with viewers? When everyone has this power on their desktop in realtime, what then?
Keep it simple, just call it the id Tech engine. Here is a list of each engine's first game (or popularized >.>).
iT1=Doom, iT2=Quake 2, iT3=Quake 3, iT4=Doom 3, iT5=Rage

@BudzMcgr33n Did you know this engine? It's actually from 1999. *owned* lol
ukloi123 9 months ago
@ukloi123 You must be dumb if you think this engine demo is from 1999 lulz
BudzMcgr33n 9 months ago
@BudzMcgr33n Nooo.. It's just "based" on the Quake-Engine. It's not the same like in 1999. I know it.
ukloi123 9 months ago
@ukloi123 COD Black Ops and World at War are also "based" on the Quake 3 engine. But it is a completely different engine from the original.
BudzMcgr33n 9 months ago
@BudzMcgr33n No, Call of Duty 4 - Black Ops are using the Doom 3 engine.
ukloi123 9 months ago
@ukloi123 You are so wrong. Do some research before you look dumb again.

Are these shadows baked or real-time? I can sorta see them moving but I'm not entirely sure.

@DIVX54978 it's real-time shadowing.

Too crisp without global illumination.

@dpwiz I agree with you about the over-crispness. It might also be a lack of proper anti-aliasing on the objects and shadows.

@cb43569 That isn't really a valid argument as you could replace the entire rendering code of the Quake 3 engine..
