As a truck driver of 10 years, I commend you on your work, sir. Keep it up. I'm all for cleaning up the truck stops. I try not to stop at any in larger metro areas because of this problem. I'd rather park on a customer's property in the middle of nowhere than most truck stops.
its the POLICE DEPT to police, not business owners if there are city bi laws about fences and what ever else yes but to blame a store owner about crime , how hard is it for a police dept to make this truck stop a zero area for prostitution ,something not right about this WHO is not doing their job or is it just to hard for the police ,I've have called them 8 times this year about a whore & pimp their still outside my home every night ,am I responsible because they sit on my fence.
@wuggacrt since it is private property it is up to the owners to react to the problems.. the owners can call the police and have the whores arrested, but they cant just drive up and get involved because remember, the whores have rights too...
Businesses should want prostitution off their street. It's bad for them, like it's bad for the rest of us. Looks like OKC's starting to do something about it.
Its a truckstop but isnt it also a gas station? I mean I somtimes go to truckstops for gas and if I were to see any prostitutes then I would call the cops. Why doesnt the community that gets their gas there call the cops when they see the prostitutes? I mean I agree with the fact that the truck stop should of done a lot to get rid of the prostitutes but why cant the regular people just getting gas call the cops?
@84ndman People do call 911 - mostly the neighboring businesses though. This particular truck stop is not conveniently located and their gas is higher than everyone else's. They basically survived because their only business was truckers looking for hookers.
@videovigilanteokc Well now they can go be faithful to their wives or get into another line of usiness if thats what they were truckin for... Congrats for making a difference!
I am curious on why the police did not police the truck stop? I can understand the repairs, but why is the business responsible for enforcing the law? Were they profiting from the crime?
@darktoadthesticky The police did patrol the lot. However, as with most police departments, 80% of a patrol officer's time is spent responding to calls, not preventing crime or on routine patrols.
Businesses are and should be responsible for the condition of their property when they are a place of public accommodation. Otherwise the property becomes a public nuisance. Owning a business comes with personal, professional and civic responsibilities.
Great Job for the City in making the business owners responsible for what goes on in their property. Keep up the good job Brian. While I personally think it should be legalized (prostitution) it shouldn't be on the streets being a hazard (for everyone and in multiple ways).
@jrosario1975 Thanks. I am of the firm belief that legalization would not remove prostitution from the streets, therefore should not be a consideration in this country.
@videovigilanteokc dont you believe that if it became legal, it could help prevent diseases, by forcing people to use protection, and could also clean the streets up a bit. like a strip club but where you go to have sex, it would push the girls on the street doing it out of business, because all the "johns" will go to the legal alternative, with cleaner/better looking girls, maybe pushing the street prostitutes to clean up and get a real job....there gunna do it anyway, why not regulate it?
@xkyrulzx That is a myth based on a lack of reality, information and some wishful thinking.
Look no further than Nevada. Its legal in most of that state, yet Nevada ranks in the top states for illegal prostitution arrests. As for disease, if we use Nevada as our model, they only test weekly for gonorrhea and Chlamydia, and monthly for HIV and syphilis. This leaves a whole host of other STDs that are never tester for.
@videovigilanteokc so if its not going to be legalized, and you dont want it around, how are people that want to use prostitutes supposed to do it? no matter how many times you think that stopping it in a whole is gunna work, it wont, its been going on forever, people are going to do it no matter what, even if it kills them (stds) so what plan could people like youself who dont want it legalized, and dont wanna see it propose we go about covering it up and getting it off the streets?
@xkyrulzx Lets legalize rape, murder, domestic violence and robbery too. Hell those have been going on forever. The fact is, I only target public, forced and organized prostitution - something that legalization would not stop.
@xkyrulzx Sure. Let's just continue to let our children see this with their own eyes. That's something every parent wants their kids to see in broad daylight right? You're right, it is never going to end, but at least people like him actively do something about it and try to make a difference. No disrespect intended, but what have you done for your community? If we don't try to make it better, who will?
Wow says alot about the company that they would turn such a blind eye like that. When the city has to push a lawsuit cause your too lazy to shoo away the hookers and keep you business clean and safe for your customers YOU dun goof up !
If these idiot truck drivers would stop paying for these disease spreading skanks they would stop coming to the stops bothering the rest of us.
