Why is Ash the main character if he has NEVER been in the games?

yeah, in other countries but where i live there will not be long lines. I'm really sure of that. But yeah i can imagine the lines especially in Japan and the U.S! But one problem that i have is that i don't understand Japanese so i don't know when the game gets released in Japan.
