One of the reasons that professional commercial divers use steel tanks as opposed to aluminum tanks is because of what you have just seen in the above video. Although the steel tank is heavier, it is inherently stronger and less susceptible to puncture damage than an aluminum tank.
@benlenchner1 Aren't they also cheaper, last longer, and require less care / maintenance? If I had to have a 'fleet' of tanks, I'd enjoy all those benefits!
Man, Kyle can't shoot for shit!!! i can hit 300 yard popup targets (army days)easily with my naked eye and he was using a scope and still missed several times ...lol
@rshurack Yeah. In order for an 'explosion' to occur, you'd need either a higher oxygen content and aluminum cylinder, a massive 'insult' to the tank that allows a high flow rate where 3500psi gets to ambient in a couple seconds (whatever's around will pressurize quickly, and I'd bet you could 'pop' a shark), or have something quite flammable already burning and use the cylinder to provide the oxygen to burn it quicker.
I'd like to see a SCUBA jug half filled with gasoline and charged to 3000 psi and then shot with a tracer or API. I'd volunteer for the shooting, but not charging the bottle.....
Try the same thing with a full propane tank at night. You set a lit road flare next to the tank and then shoot it with a HP rifle from about 100 yards. The effect is off the hook. Make sure you bring a few... it's that fun!
IF the diver was even a foot under water, I don't think the bullet would penetrate the tank. Mythbusters has a great episode on this... Above ground, though, I'd bet the diver would be knocked to the ground and might spin a tad if slick concrete was beneath 'em. Tripling (or more) they weight w/ the same thrust can cause dismal reaction.
Hey... is this movie by Kyle?
