Awesome movie. Couples with kids who are considering divorce should watch this. Of course the Lifetime network won't be showing this movie anytime soon because it doesn't suit the agenda of the fuckers who are trying to destroy Americans.
@Cuteblondie1972 Funny, I actually had a girlfriend like that for a while! She was gorgeous but a junkie (I didn't know that at first) and a sociopath. It's not any better when the sexes are reversed, believe me. Still really sucks when you find out how bad they are.
The guy that played Sam was a prick in real life as well. Corey Haim went to compliment him on his acting early into filming this movie, and Peter Weller pinned him to the wall. I also read that he has a problem following smoking bans in public and becomes aggressive when told to put his cigar out.
I honestly think in real life when the mother gave Sam the ultimatum he would have left. Remember, he had the cocaine, and he's a con-man at heart, and that would have been his smartest move at that point. He probably would have said something like, "Okay babe, but you'll regret this. When you come back to me begging it'll fall on deaf ears, and you can forget all about your restaurant!" But of course, there would have been no big fight scene at the end if the movie had ended realistically!
80's movies are the best. Near the end of the 80's they started building movie-megaplexes with 15-20 screens and mass production lead to a total collapse in quality.
Not to mention it caused every possible idea for a movie to be done and re-done and done again. Whatever. I jsound like an old person talking like "IIIII rrrremmember when the moooovies cossst a nickel.....you whipersnappers..."
@Elifakk Ya but hes only crying in the car when its all kinda over, not when he was chased, punched, dragged form the house and then driven into the woods with the crazed drug addict. Logically thats when you would start to cry. Mayby it all just hit him then.
This movie was great. It taught me that to win any fight is one good kick in the nuts. Peter Weller's performance was pretty good. Even though this movie seemed like an after school special there are some genuinely good performances there.
I saw this at a sneak preview with a girl I dated briefly in college! What a fool I was! I stopped seeing her for my FIRST WIFE! AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I eventually got smart, but Mary (the girl I saw this with) had moved on!
Should have faded to black after sam says ''no pain no gain''..then the credits. It would have made it stronger because, despite all of sam's bad qualities,he was still a better dad than the real one.He was actually THERE making an effort, than this punk kid has to ruin everything. It wouldn't have redeemed weller's character completely, but the final scene makes out to be a monster, which isn't convincing at all.As up until then,he was portrayed as a guy who was doing his best, despite his flaws.
@zacefron5105 Relax scumbag,im only saying the film would have been better had they not made weller out to be a total monster. The filmmakers could have made weller's character more complex, and understanding, but they just copped out to a predictible ending.
@MeBenHalpin I still think that Jake and Brian should've left their mother at the end of the film & gone to live with their father. The mother was not a fit parent.
@KellyGreen5555 True, but the father, only seem to care about his new fiancee and not about his son's safety, mean you saw him in one clip and after that where was he when all that was going on, should have gone into care the boys.
The real villain here is the mother for allowing this creep to enter their lives. If she'd been more concerned with parenting...there wouldn't have been a movie.
This is the first time ever seeing this movie and i enjoyed every second of it. Great Movie! And a big THANK YOU for posting this great movie. The ending brought tears to my eyes as the three held each other (2 sons & mom).
Thank you so many times for posting this unbelievably great movie. How it gets constantly overlooked is beyond me. It has great performances from the two young actors, Peter Weller makes your skin crawl (and stepped into the role of Sam at the very last minute when his friend Tom Berenger couldn't do it due to scheduling conflicts), and Terri Garr is fantastic, as always. I am overjoyed that you posted this in its entirety, THANK YOU.
I love how bipolar the guy is. He's in a furious rage at first but as long as the guy has his drugs he's mellow and says, It's cool, everything's cool.
@steveskin1 I think that he does more stage work now than screen work. He and Corey Haim paired up again in 1990 for a movie called PRAYER OF THE ROLLERBOYS.

@stevenmcintosh Maybe Weller stayed in character between takes. Some actors do that.

Weller should have acted like he was leaving the way he did at the end, Then drove his truck right into the house.. That would have been classic!
